This is a CYOA/Interactive Story. You forumnites play Robert Maxwell, a man who lives in a universe that just turned ugly. REAL ugly. Suggest reasonable actions, I write 'em down with characterization and shitliekdat in it, and I hope we can get through this without anyone getting their heads ripped off.

Robert Maxwell was fixing up his attic, reorganizing it and preparing to throw out all that useless junk that he and his girlfriend Meghan had collected over the period of four years that the two of them had been together. While he was piling up boxes full of old books he didn’t want to throw away, the yellowish light of the afternoon sun coming in from the lone window suddenly turned a blood red. He set the box down and looked out the window, and approached it. A horrible sight greeted his eyes. A horrific storm of fire was approaching his home, and before he can do anything, it hits the house, and he is flung to the ground, and he blacks out.

He woke up some time later, his head pounding and his stomach growling. A sheet of canvas, probably one that lies on top of one of the cabinets, lay on him, making him feel claustrophobic. He removed it and stood up. The attic’s floor was covered in glass shards, and several of the boxes have fallen. One in particular has broken open, and its contents are on the floor, mostly books and clothing. A crowbar, one that Robert has not seen in months, has fallen to the floor. Robert feels mostly uninjured, aside from his right leg. While he still can walk, his right leg slows him a bit.

Robert picks up the crowbar, not knowing what to expect. He limps across the room, careful not to step on the glass, as he is barefoot. As he approaches the window, a foul stench, akin to brimstone and rotting flesh, hits him. Hands shaking, he looks out the window.

The skies are filled with dark clouds, lighting flickering across the blood red atmosphere. Robert sees that his neighbors are in the street, murmuring and pointing at the sky. Suddenly, rain begins to fall. The water seems to be dyed red by the light, but on further inspection, it turns out that blood is raining down from the heavens.

Sickened by the blood, Robert walks away from the attic. He pulls out his cell, hoping to contact Meghan at her job at the hospital. He finds that there is no signal for his cellphone, and curses. You grab your socks and shoes, and begin to make your way out your door, then realize that your car is perfectly fine.

Robert grabs a raincoat and umbrella from a closet and don them. He slips his crowbar in a makeshift loop on his belt, making sure he can reach it easily. Robert opens the door and steps into the street. The blood begins to spatter onto Robert's umbrella with pitter-pattering and a horrid stench. The light gives the once-familiar street an eerie look, making shadows and silhouettes appear everywhere. Robert sees his elderly neighbor, Mr. Jenkins, approaching him. His suit drenched by blood, he approaches Robert, waving his revolver and cane like a madman.

"It's the end, I tell ya! We're all gonna die!"

Mr. Jenkins ignores Robert's polite inquiries and his attempts to calm him, and grabs the front of his shirt. Robert smells hard liquor on his breath, as well as the fetid smell of old meat.

"The monsters! Th-They ate Agatha! I'm telling you! She's dead! My wife is dead!" He begins to sob, and collapses on the ground, his revolver and cane forgotten on the sidewalk. He rocks back and forth, sobbing uncontrollably as the rain of blood begins to turn into a deluge.

>Take the gun, empty it of ammunition, clear the chamber (it's a revolver, right? That's not how it works, I don't think, but if it does, hey, win-win) and put the gun and ammo in your pocket, separately. I don't want to get excited, pull out someone else's revolver (and I have no idea what condition they kept it in) to have it explode thanks to the blood getting everywhere. Also, being shot in the leg isn't good either. I'd say put the safety on but again, I've no idea what condition this gun might be in, considering Robert's probably not a gun-enthusiast. Check the condition of the gun anyway, but I am taking no chances here.

Try and remember what country this is again. Then, inquire with the neighbors about monsters and the like.

Robert takes the .357 revolver and empties it of ammunition, a full six rounds. The revolver seems in peak condition. Robert leaves Mr. Jenkins there, sobbing, and approaches the small, dingy home of Ms. Anne Connors, a single mother. Her twelve year old son, Mattia, grabbed her skirt at Robert's approach.

"Robert! What's going on?" Her voice tries to keep steady, yet Robert can't help but detect a hint of fear in her voice.

"I don't know, Anne. I'm trying to find that out myself." You walk away, hoping to find someone who knows something about this strange event.

Robert can't help but wonder what is happening in this small town in the middle of the U.S.A.

Robert finds that he is entering the town proper. In front of him, he can see the gun shop and the local bar, and the Town Hall towers above him. The gun shop looks boarded up, and the door to the bar has fallen to the ground.
