Mass migrants.... bastards

Ever had so many migrants you ran out of booze in about 3 minutes...... i have. Ill get screenshots later but i just got a migrant wave of about 25 dorfs... at once. Was wondering what your biggest migrant waves have been.

I believe 25 is near the maximum. How did you run out of booze, did you not have stills pumping out booze by the barrel full?

I think I've had 30 migrants at once before, 25-30 sounds like the maximum I believe.

It depends on how well you did in the previous time since you got migrants.

I ran out of booze because i had no more barrels cause i embarked on a map with no trees and had to just use the starting barrels

I believe I've had a 33-dwarf wave before, which included my baroness and company.  The four years after the first all involved no less than 24 migrants for me... And the ones after that, I just manually adjusted my init.txt's max pop to prevent absurdities, and waylay the incoming queen until I was prepared.

According to the king thread I just read, someone had 40 dwarves appear on the summer of their second year, which blows mine out of the water.

If you have no wood source, you do realize you can set the number of barrels allowed in your food stockpile? Make sure 100% of your barrels are going toward booze storage, and you won't have that problem.

As I recall, someone once had a 47-dwarf migration, which is far and away the largest I've ever heard of. Migrations of 20 or so are pretty common though.

Also, why is it that no matter how many barrels I have, they're ALL used for food, even if I fallow my fields for some tiem and brew away most of it?

Kill them when they arrive (or better yet, before they stop flashing) so your dwarves don't bond with them and get angry/sad when they have their... accident.

So of all the things you can do in DF, it's the fractal artifacts that make you think dwarves are crazy.

Never mind the magma falls, the atom smashers, the cog-and-axle turing-complete computers, or the colonizing of Hell itself... all those are fine, but man, those recursive artifacts! Where do they get such ideas?

I think you'll find that seeds are to blame there. It got so bad for me, I now create completely custom stockpiles, where food stockpiles have 0 barrels assigned, and drink stockpiles are allowed the maximum, but it seems to get a little... screwy.

Ah, but there's a better way to deal with seeds - have a single-tile stockpile for seeds, assigne a barrell and be done with it. NEVER ALLOW SEEDS ANYWHERE ELSE!
