BEWARE if you were one of those people who decided to "demo" it by torrent. Snunaa.dll process and a cmd process start running and eating cpu cycles, so this may be the reason you see some performance hit during and after playing that particular version.

I've found no such processes running when the game is. :-\

Sounds like you got a virus friend, no such DLL exists on my system even.

Agreed. It turned up this morning on my laptop after installing said version and checking the boards here. Only possible point of infection was from the torrent. Moot point since I have purchased. Just letting others know the risk(should be obvious).

Sorry to hijack.

TLDR: Buy the game, it's worth it.

some other things,

Zooming in and out with mouse wheel, it feels laggy but i dont think it is. I think its badly designed preset zoom levels that are annoying. if it was smoothed out i dont think it would feel nearly as "lagged"

some screens feel like they take terribly long to open sometimes, such as ship construction screen.
no idea why, but it feels like HOI 3 and its menu's taking seconds to open and close for no reason.

Good things I am seeing still-

Love the gameplay, I like the private economy requiring escorts from the Government IE you., handing it all on their own via AI, but you can always take these ships and make your own "state" fleets with them at times of war.

So you really have a living universe, im very happy with this, It feels more real than other games ive played. You have to protect yourself from pirates at all times, if you weaken your ship escorts pirates have a field day on your merchants.

Finding magical new things on planets / in space:

FuckAwesome.

So I was roaming the galaxy and i found a pirate hideout, when i accidentally destroyed every last one of them with my single cruiser the "Pirate raper" and destroyed their base, I found some information, leading me to another set of coordinates.

These Coordinates led me to a Battlesite of the Ancients, who had fought here long ago, and it was covered in Space Lobsters. So my cruiser, when in and killed the space lobsters, then my construction ship came in and began repairing these huge vessels. Right after I got the first ship repaired, one of the AI's Claimed the system I was sitting in, then told me to leave, I said hell no not without these ships, and he declared war on me.

He jumped his entire fleet in on this single point and the Cruiser "Pirate Raper" and an ancient Capital Ship began the fight of their life. Luckily the Ancient ship had AOE weaponry to just down right rape anything that closed with it.

Sadly the Pirate Raper didnt make it out due to a slow jumpdrive and died in the fires of eternal vigilance. The Ancient Battleship held its ground and continued holding the line until I repaired the rest of the Ancient Ships and got the hell out of town.

Those 6 ships i repaired and took home became my 1st Fleet, under my control and most of the ships stayed alive until much later in the game.

That is the story parts that just make me love this god damn game.

I agree, the game is awesome. Fuckawesome even.

I have a few problems with the 'living universe' which, normally, works fine.

1. STOP MINING THE DAMN LOBSTER INFESTED ASTROIDS. Seriously, if you know 12 other mining ships have died in these asteroids, and everyone who goes there dies, stop going there ffs. Every month like clockwork "Dumfuk mining vessel is under attack by space slug!" "Dumfuk mining vessel is under attack by space lobster!" Just stop going there until I have time to clear it out. I want to be able to declare things off limits to civilians.

2. I think I understand how money comes in, but it seems inconsistent.  You make money from taxes, that is obvious and works fine. You also make money from civilian use of your space ports, and this is the part that seems inconsistent. Do you make money when they dock? (docking fees?) Do you make it when they take fuel? I saw there was a 'total fuel costs this year' section on the civilian economics but I have never noticed my money rise when a lot of civvies dock. Its possible the fee is just so small as to be unnoticeable. I read (somewhere) that you make money when civvies buy ships, or time in your construction yards, or something... I don't see this income listed anywhere except possibly under the "Space port income" section. I'd like a better breakdown of income/expenses so I can tell what I need to improve.

How do you guys generally organize your spaceports? Personally I have been designating one 'hub' per grid and building it up to a medium or large spaceport depending on its population, and then the rest of the planets get either no spaceport or a small one depending on population.

it is really fun, for sure. but wow is it confusing at times. Like i can never tell how long until something being built is done, or going to take. I find it difficult to figure out what resources are needed for what. When an alien race offers to sell me something like a "Floobinusah x5000" i have no fucking idea what it is and why i should buy it, nor is there any way to find out before saying YES or NO to the deal.

And fuel, thats a pain for me right now, trying to figure out how to keep my ships going, the AI seems pretty dumb about refueling. I think I just need to play more to get a grasp on that aspect of the game.

Great game thouigh really, the world seem alive and stuff is going on all the time, but I also dont feel overly rushed by the RTS aspect of it. I do wish they took some hints from AI War about large fleets management. We really dont need such big and clunky graphics for individual ships and then I bet things would look nicer and move smoother.

The fuel is a pain mostly because your fleet can drink some locations dry pretty easily. If you predeploy some resupply ships to gas giants near where you want your ships to be fighting you can refuel at the ship. Remember to deploy on a gas giant with the correct fuel type tho, fusion generators use hydrogen and fission use the other common gas which starts with a C

Woo, downloading+shipping now, its... going to take hours. ::)

And since I might be going to sleep when its done, I don't think I will be able to sleep because of my excitement. :(

Now, please tell me I won't be blasted out of existence the first systems I explore. :-X

nah the game is usually gentle when you start.

and i think im having a bug, going to have to scrap my current game, the space port wont complete any ships, so im kinda doing nothing right now.

wish it wasnt as buggy as it is, but its still fun i guess. Of course I could be just doing something wrong, but I just stated the game and I can t imagine what I could have done to screw over my space port construction.

Are the ships listed as in construction? You may be missing some key strategic resource. I know I once started a game and I guess got smacked by the RNG because there was no lead for a long way around my home system so I never had enough of the stuff and it slowed production down.

I agree with this, Why there are no fuel tankers in this game, is fucking the worst design decision ever.

Aurora has fuel ships that you can use, and its incredibly helpful, In this game? Nope, you have to strategically withdraw to your fuel depot however far that may be with your entire fleet, and if that fuel depot gets destroyed? now you get to go back all the way home to your home system.... sorta terrible.

Now if there was just a fuel supply ship that carried lots and lots of fuel and distributed it to ships that needed it as they stayed nearby.... that would save all that irritating hassle...

Well you can deploy a resupply ship to a gas giant as I said, and they can refuel quite a lot of ships at once.

The AI doesn't handle it well though. Really you have to attack and retreat, hitting vital targets and getting out fast.

Argh, I feel like Jack from 24, except the clock is haywire. :P

one second the time remaining is 50 minutes, the next its more than an hour, now it was 27 minutes, now its 336 minutes. :(

I understand that, In Aurora you have fuel supply points as well, but you build ships to carry that fuel with the fleet.

Urgh, it crashed so early on. :(

I was the smart human guys, in a normal galaxy with a [too] good starting system (four continental planets, rest were barren, volcanic, or ice), found two out-of-system independent colonies of my race.

And... nothing really got far before it crashed... ::)

I'll go at it again! Hopefully it wont crash!
