So I found an abandoned signal relay station at the coordinates. Boarded it and got some galactic history and a fully functional deep space resupply station with technology that, while not WAY more advanced, is better than mine. It is contributing quite a bit towards my research of those technologies.

Yeah sorry it wasn't more coherant. My first game and that was in a tiny (100 star is the smallest possible) galaxy!

The game is ongoing, I expanded WAY too fast and ended up so deep in debt that I had to surrender and become a subjugated dominion of another empire to even survive. I traded them one of my colonies and some shiny shield tech for the opportunity to become a slave. I can probably work my way out of that later though.. damn sight better than them wiping me out.

I did find an 'ancient weapons testing ground' with an old capital ship which I reactivated. Tore it apart at my shipyards for a tech boost and it took me about 85% of the way to the next shield level, which rocks.

Anyway, the game is a lot of fun. I can only imagine how crazy it gets in a large galaxy (1500+ stars).

At one point (I had all the automation on "make suggestions" mode) the AI suggested I prep a sneak attack on an alien empire. It presented a plan, make a fleet with X ships and move them to Y location, declare war and strike these targets. I could approve or disapprove. I approved and it gathered the ships it listed and moved them out then when they were fueled and ready it got final authorization for the strike. I declared war and they went off, took out 2 mining bases and harassed civilian shipping, then came back. After that I was able to negotiate peace (after a few skirmishes) and I was in a much better position.

damn it sounds good....

The story bits are what I like, a game with random story about the history of the universe etc is what i like to hear. MOO3 did not have enough of that, just had a few ancient guardians.

Glad you enjoyed it. After that game I've decided to restart in an epic galaxy and see how it goes.

A few things I didn't mention which I think are kind of cool:

The civilian sector is no slouch. They will buy ships from you, which your shipyards will build automatically. They will commission mining stations from you, which your construction ship will manage. They ship all of your materials for you, which you tax them for and you don't have to set up or manage.

Also, I thought this was cool. I found a derelict colony and boarded it, found several thousand sleeping members of another race and reactivated the colony ship. I set it down on a habitable world and the people were so grateful they joined my empire. Having them join me gave me part of their racial special, which was a bonus to spy agent skill.

Same thing happened when I found an independant colony of very advanced humanoids. Convinced them to join me and got a research speed boost. That colony also held a rare fruit which extended people's lives... and any colony that got shipments of those goods became more developed at a rapid rate.

Darn you forsaken... :(

I REALLY want it, but at the same time, don't want to buy it before I feel it's the right time.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.
Quote from: Ze Spy
Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

No worries, I'm just providing information, you decide based on that.

Again if you have specific questions let me know and I'll do my best to answer. I just started my new game in a 1400 star galaxy, colonized the 2 habitable planets and one moon in my home system.

Sounds like what Aurora could be, if it were being developed by a studio instead of a single person. I'm resisting the urge to buy as well, at least until I have my finances settled.

It's up on torrent sites unofficial but totally legal demoing sites for those who want to give it a try before making the leap..

If you mean the 1.0.1.0 patch then... its required. Before patching I couldn't even start a game.

I didn't check, will do as soon as I get a chance.

I think this is the only option I get for now, but I'll gladly buy the game when I have the opportunity/money.

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

Same really, my prepaid CC is no longer usable so I have to wait some time till the new one arrives.

Also of note, the torrent I saw had the patch to 1.0.1 as well.

I really see no moral objection to using a torrent to demo a product you plan to buy later personally.
