MOO2 Nostalga: Dwarfy Universe! New Game Planned!
« on: March 24, 2010, 09:50:37 am »

Tahin and I where playing Master of Orion 2 and we decided that it only missed one thing: YOU!
We plan to get a bunch of players together for a wild roaring rumble of a game. I'm appallingly bad, and hope we get a full spectrum of fails, because loosing is even more fun when it's intergalactic!.

Contact me, and I'll help you get DOS-Box configured and your own copy of MOO2. Don't worry, it's easy!

We plan for play sessions that are after 10:00 PM UTC-8 weekdays, after 6:00 PM UTC-8 Fridays, and all day on weekends.

Existing MOO2 install and understanding of DOSBOX suggested but not at all required! Contact me for help setting them up!

Here's some info on setting up MOO2 in DOSbox.

Here's the current IPX server:

Here's our IRC:
#B12MoO2 on Quakenet *UP*

Here's our next planned game:
3/27/2010 WHENEVER Pacific (UTC-8)
(Server started time, game will wait for 3-6 total players)

I might be able to join. If the second one is anything like the first I'm also terrible.

Oooh, MoO2. I may be persuaded to join up. I'm pretty bad, but I generally came out okay back when I used to play.

Um, is there a way to GET the game nowadays?

There are also Windows versions of MOO2, will they be compatible?

Asking out of curiousity, no way I have the time these days.

If I remember correctly, the DOS version of MOO2 lagged much less than the Windows version for Multiplayer. I think in the Windows one you had to wait several seconds between turns. It was terrible.

As much as I'd love to see this happen, I'd really suggest just trying to get 4 people playing first.

We are using the DOS version in DOSBOX in order to be as up-to-date as possible and to avoid the 95 lag.
We've gotten a 2-player game working perfectly.

We'll reserve you a spot, Fikes.

I want in please (:
I've mostly played single player against average bots, besides some hotseat with my little brother.  I'll have to see about the dos version but that should be fine, I use dosbox a lot for other games.  Never played a network game with it though.

How does tech trading work in multiplayer, would it be a waste to choose Creative?

I'll probably take Subterranean and a research bonus, maybe try to squeeze democracy in there.

Put in a spot for me. I use the windows 95 one nowadays because I still have the original disk, but I am ok with switching the the Dosbox one with the player made patch 1.41.

Alright. At the moment we're a little over the limit, so we'll see who shows up once we get things sorted out.

Let's see if we can start the game Friday after 6:00.

We need to use the Dos version.

And everybody remember: kill Lord Bucket.

Oh, if you don't know how to set up a multiplayer game with DOSbox or don't have the game, just contact me.

Let's see if we can start the game Friday after 6:00.

1) EDIT: Ok...from your link I see that we'll be playing V1.40. May I encourage everyone to download the patch, and get the multiplayer setup working before game start time? We don't want to get everyone together and then sit aroudn and wait for an hour while people try to get it to work.

Note: It appears that while the patch cannot be run from dosbox, it seems to be incompatible with 64bit windows. This might be a deal breaker for some people.

2) EDIT: Ahh... "minus 8." So that's 6pm PST. Yes?

3) Can we get a confirmed list of house rules? I proposed a few, but for example, if people are going to be barred from conducting tech trades, we need to know that for certain before we start playing.

PM me with your e-mail address and I can help you get a copy.

You can, in fact, run the patched version in Dosbox. I've gotten it to work by simply renaming the executable to something shorter. I myself am using 7x64.

All of my times are in PST or UTC-8.

As for house rules, I plan to set up an IRC to help get everyone set up and discuss the house rules. I'd suggest as few restrictions as possible- after all, everybody's already pretty bad at the game. Why, in particular, no tech trading?

Holy crap, other MOO players. I've been wanting to play a session of MOO2 against someone for some time. The unfortunate thing is, I'm not as good in MOO2 as I am in MOO1. Just as well, I don't exactly have the best time management skills. Plus, work will get in the way, alot.

Nonetheless, it's nice seeing that others have played this glorious game.
