Can I just be Grunty? That's all I've ever wanted in life.

This made me laugh so hard I'll allow it. Oh dear lord that was funny.

That'll do just fine. Snipers are key elements in Jagged Alliance, especially for larger battles.

I'm surprised more people didn't choose sniper, it's the most common fantasy for people military wise. If I had a nickel for everyone with a sniper fetish I would buy Japan just to sink the damn island.

Strange, I always dreamed of being the Heavy Weapons Guy....But wielding a Shotgun and going all Space Marine on the Queen's Army is also cool.

To be honest. A shotgun is a pretty devastating weapon, more so than video games would let us believe. the effective range of a typical shotgun is much more effective further than the 20-40 feet portrayed in games. With the recent advances in the design of military shotguns, I'd rather have one of those than a LMG. (in general. a LMG certainly has it's place in the battlefield.)

one of the games that i have played that really showed the dominance of the shotgun was fallout tactics. (weapons like the panzor jackhammer) big clip, rapid fire, nice range, crazy damage.

First of all, just to clear something up, weapons like the Panzor Jackhammer, AA12, USAS12, and HK CAW do NOT EXIST IN ANY SERVICABLE FORM. There have been prototypes of all these weapons but they're either impossible or nearly impossible to get. Stop watching future weapons. However, SEMI-automatic shotguns have been around since before you, I, our parents, or grandparents were born. John Moses Browning invented the semi/fully automatic shotgun way way back in the day.

However shotguns are much more effective in real life than video games, but do not be fooled too much by some people, the general rule amongst old gun nuts is the spread will increase by one inch every one yard. Unless you've got a rifled slug barrel and some really nifty slugs but whatevs. Also a good barrel choke can save you a lot of missed pellets.

That'll do just fine. Snipers are key elements in Jagged Alliance, especially for larger battles.

I'm surprised more people didn't choose sniper, it's the most common fantasy for people military wise. If I had a nickel for everyone with a sniper fetish I would buy Japan just to sink the damn island.

actually I'm not overly into snipers myself, hate the god damn things in FPS's. I'm more of a SMG person, love playing close quarters in FPS's. I chose sniper because you lacked one.

I work in a gun shop in Arizona, I swear to god one of the only things I hate about my job are all the 13-30 year olds coming in looking for "sniper rifles". Buh. It's so stupidly annoying. I once heard a horror story from a co worker where this kid asked to look at an SL8 we had recently got, and he said sure.
"How do I zoom the scope?"
"You just turn the knob here for distance and this one for windage."
"I'm used to it doing it for me, you know, like in Halo."
Ugh, video games. Such a cursed blessing.

Alright! The Adventure has begun! I realized there can only be three male IMP mercs so I removed myself and replaced him with another pack mule, Trevor.

Also Irontooth was one character too long so I just used Irntooth.

Also Snow Drifter was too long so it's just Snow.

The Options

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

October 1st, 1998.

Dear Diary, Arulco kind of reminds me of Australia in a weird way, maybe it's the jungles. It's certainly not this group of mercenaries I'm traveling with. Most certainly an odd bunch. One of them insists on being addressed as senator. But he passed the MERC evaluation, so I don't worry too much.

Snow doesn't talk much. Other than when she's complaining about the heat (It's only 80 degrees, seriously) or when she talks about her love of shooting people in the face. Again, not too worried.

Grunty I like the most. He talks with an amusing accent but for the most part he is the most normal of them all.

And Irontooth, Oh man, he is a big dude. I guess you would be a big dude if you specialized in machine guns and heavy weapons. I didn't gain a single muscle carrying around my trusty Owen .45.

John Connor seems normal. I've heard he can really take charge, but so far he hasn't said so much as a "Hello, mate" but maybe it's nothing.

They're all pretty pissed though. They were promised their weapons of choice but got the last, unwanted, used shotguns for their deployment. Senator tells me Snow usually obsesses over her weapons, but not over that one I guess. Senator also tells me he loves his, "A fine year for shotguns" he says. Irontooth however got a brand new MP5/10. I'm insanely jealous. I love guns, man.

We're landing right now, cya. Don't go anywhere, diary.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You guys have just landed. There are 3-5 enemies in the vacinity. They could be anywhere. What is your strategy?

Nearest cities are Drassen, which has an airfield, which means you can order in as many supplies as your wallet allows. Cambria, which has a hospital. San Mona, which has a fightclub.

seeing as how i have never played the game, i cant really say much about what we should do. whant is an IMP soldier anyways? I can however suggest what i do in x-com if this game is turn based:

clear buildings, move slowly, one at a time

try to setup a character as overwatch so that if someone stumbles into an enemy line of sight, they can scramble for coverage while the overwatch moves to take some long range shots.

at least, that works awesomely in x-com

Yes, that's a good strategy. If no one else has any objections within two hours that is what will be done. Jagged Alliance 2 is fairly realistic, so if you think you can do it in real life it will probably work in Jagged Alliance.

Works for me. We've got pretty close range weapons overall, so doing careful building sweeps is our best option.

I guess I'm probably best for doing covering/suppressive fire as needed. I don't recognize Trevor's weapon, but I assume it's some sort of SMG or Machine pistol?

Yes, trevors weapon was used in several wars/conflicts by the Australian Army. It is a submachine gun with a top fed magazine.

I need to do less screen caps, I took 13 just for our first battle. As soon as I upload all of them the update will be posted.

UPDATE-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Diary, we all agreed that sweeping the sector building by building would be our best bet at not dying. Which is my primary concern. Snow suggested one of us stay to the rooftops to act as direct fire support should it be needed. Before we could even get ready grunty spotted a fellow in a red shirt. When Grunty asked if he could show him his Pokemonz the dude raised his gun. Grunty, being an excellent soldier as well as an excellent Chansey collector, quickly drew his pistol and fired once into the bad dudes torso.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Grunty was just as quick with his second shot, which brought the wouldbe assassin down.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As we regained our breath I climbed to the rooftop to act as said supportive fire, and before we could even make it to the next building two more bad dudes showed up.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One ran up to us, for who knows why, we will never find out because Snow put a single slug into the mans chest, knocking both the wind and the life out of him.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh Grunty, I know you can't make that shot, you could have just said so. You didn't have to use your hilariously outdated foreign references.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Irontooth began laying suppressive fire into the second man, but to no avail.
After he missed I decided to lay into him as well, and got three hits, and a confirmed kill.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We began sprinting down the road from building to building when Snow spotted an old man in the same uniform as the bad dudes. She could have just told us she saw someone, but no, she had to make it gross.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I began throwing suppressive fire so he couldn't react as the team moved forward to engage him.
This scored me a hit to the abdomen.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Grunty began to sneak through the building, and saw the bad guy. The bad guy hadn't noticed him yet and Grunty knew this. He began giggling maniacally. I'm surprised he wasn't heard. No matter, after Grunty put one bullet into the head of that man he would never hear an crazed foreigner giggle like a maniac again.

I hope every day is like this in country. :)

We're deciding what to do next,
                                                       ~Trevor.

Okay guys, you suffered no casualties at all. And you got all the bad guys. What do you want to do now?
Take control of an airfield to get new weapons/ammo/gear? Steal a mine to gain some profit? (You guys already have 50,000 USD. It should hold you for quite a while.) Or just take the town with the hospital?

The bad dudes also dropped some stuff

i would prefer a weapon with a bit more range on it so I can take advantage of longer distances. though it did feel good to blow a man off his feet with a nice solid slug.

I think we should secure a source of new equipment should things go wrong and we need it. I vote ari field

I say the airfield. We need to buy better equipment.

For the stuff we picked up, I guess give side-arms to people who don't have one and maybe the shotgun to Grunty.

I think since Senator is going shotguns anyway he should probably get the flak jacket, but I don't care too much who gets that.

DO I FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT.

I looked into all of your items to show you your gear, and whaddya know, MP5/10s all around! Submachineguns for everyone! It's an SMGapalooza! Senator didn't want his, and gave it to Grunty saying "I don't need this where I'm going" which confused poor Grunty.

Here's your gear.

Since I only have a pistol, I totally agree with the idea of getting to the airfield and getting new weapons.

Also, airdropping Buns in at any time would be a great idea.

You have been given a submachine gun and shotgun  :)

And I just want this to be 6 people, so Buns will come if someone dies.

Dear Diary, we are almost at the airport. I cannot wait. I've been dying to get my hands on a nice sidearm since we landed. We just mopped up a bunch of baddies again. Just as easy as last time. Before that though we snuck through a wooded area, right around the bad guys. I think they are the same people we obliterated later.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

When we got to the farm next to the airport we spotted a dude taking a leak by a tree. We came up with a plan. Team A which consisted of Irontooth, Senator, and Snow would stay back a bit and suppress/snipe the enemy while Team B flanked the enemy from the east. Team B was Grunty, Hunter, and myself.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Senator nailed the dude, knocking him down. He wasn't dead though, so Irontooth shot him before he could point to our position.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As Team B approached from the East Grunty charged our first target and riddled him with bullets from his new toy in a quick burst. Snow spotted two more enemies and quickly took one down without so much as missing a heartbeat.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Senator, in a great feat of shotgun skill, shot a man dead in the chest from quite a distance [(for jagged alliance)] and killed him dead. Grunty spotted one more and quickly suppressed him with a burst, which missed but scared him good.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

However, he was not so lucky just a bit later.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And that was that. No more shooting. I cannot wait for our arrival at the airport.

            Love, ~Trevor
