Same here.  The sad part is that I live in America.

It's mostly because I'm lazy, really.

Entirely, in fact.

Everything you say or do is a political statement, friends. ;)

What you choose to do with your time- everything decision you make affects other people. They define who you are and tell the world what kind of human being you are.

That being said, even your smallest actions, a simple act of kindness, pleasant words, or a decision to make a difference in this life you got is a big fucking deal.

If you were an American, I'd say that you have no idea how thin a thread you're hanging on by there.

Yeah, it gets pretty trying sometimes.  But c'mon, at least it's more entertaining than sports.  Better crowd-fights too.

Pft, you should see Australian politicians. Our country is run by six year old who stepped into a machine that advanced them physically by about 50 years. It's hilarious, everyone's just so spiteful. You really have to see it to understand. Danny Boyle sums it up quite well.

"And I'd like to ask if he's ever going to return my stapler, Mister Speaker?"

...You're shitting me.  I believe you have my stapler?  Really?  The big fucking stapler?

That's pretty much how they role. You know that fallacy, where you try to prove yourself right by discrediting your opponent by talking about something they did that was completely unrelated, yet (at least to you) deplorable?

The Australian Government is all about that. And whatever it is they're accusing them of is usually not deplorable even by Mary Whitehouse standards.

It's awesome.

But they still manage to do it with that British tradition of a veneer of civility which makes it so fun to watch.

"Now while it may be that the esteemed gentleman from Kalgoorlie says that he sees a crisis on the horizon, it is my estimation that the esteemed gentleman from Kalgoorlie has all the perspicacity and capacity for foresight of a hydrocephalic fruit bat."

Whereas in the US, we just don't have elected officials who are capable of that kind of honeyed venom. (In part because their targets aren't capable of understanding they've just been insulted...)

That's only the start of it, you're forgetting all about Tony "What the Fuck" Abbot; quite possibly the most insane politician we've ever had.

Also, because he's the Leader of the Opposition, he Opposes everything that the Labour Government proposes, on principle. He's the Opposition you see, he has to Oppose, it's his job. He wouldn't be called the Opposition if he didn't Oppose things.

But that's the GOOD thing about Australian government! The opposition is *expected* to oppose! It's their job! They even have their Shadow Government with little shadow cabinets and shadow titles and stuff.

Whereas here, the opposition is essentially expected to whine, bitch and moan but in the end accede to the majority party's demands, otherwise it's "obstructionism". (And yes, I realize the irony of me saying this considering I've slagged the GOP for obstructing the health care bill.)

Opposition by the opposition party in the US government is seen as so unpatriotic, that the only way to justify it politically is to make the majority party seem so diabolic that you can cast yourself not in the light of an opposition party, but a resistance movement. Which leads to all sorts of batshit craziness like Oklahoma City fun.
