1) Normal

2) Nightmare Mode

3) Don't care, though if people want to optimize the founder's stats, I have the stats for that.

4) 1 month, see what kind of mess/progress your predecessors can make... and how the next person will screw or fix it.  Also, it'll be up to someone else and not you to spring your guys from court/jail or not...

1) No preference - I've never fought the CCS, but I can try!

2) Nightmare Mode - Sounds new and interesting to me.

3) No preference on Founder stats, random is fine.

4) No preference

And don't make me go first, so I can watch other people play this version!

I'm in. I'll need a harem of sex slaves though. And some dogs. Lots of dogs.

Aren't they the same thing? *Joke*

One idea is to have each player recruit a character to serve as their avatar when they start their turn.  Another idea is to play for one "Season" which would be defined as a three-month period loosely corresponding with the seasons of the year.  For example, player one is "Winter" and plays January, February, and March.  Player two is "Spring" and plays April, May, and June.  Etc.  It might add some extra character.

I do not have the time, but I'll play a turn in the first year.

1) I usually start with CCS active for the higher initial difficulty.  However, having the CCS escalate adds a different stage to the game, so I will argue for that.  I love fighting the CCS, and only wish they did not die so easily.

2) Nightmare mode -With good players, this is the only way to see Arch-Conservative World.  It truly represents an era when the LCS can be seen as freedom fighters and not crazy fanatics.

3) Actually, I'd argue for the first player (Grimith most likely, plus it will lead to greater continuity in the long run) to truly own the starting character i.e. the founder.  To that end, the starting player should build his character as they wish.  But I would also request the starting player have several "claimable redshirts" that can be turned into player avatars (if players wish, as this is totally optional).

4) As said before, I'd argue for 3 months, so the game goes quicker.  Ever have a month where everyone is either wounded or interrogating Conservatives the whole time?  Yeah, 3 months is better.  Especially if we use the Alpha, where it takes the entire first month to be able to actually invite people back for discussion, and the entire second month to convince them to join up.

We Didn't Start The Fire and Nightmare mode sounds good.
Treat me as a passive aggressive (general minor troublemaking, verbally try to convert just about any conservative) guy if I happen to miss a turn.

Of course. Not a problem. As long as you share any opinions you have regarding the starting options for the game, anyway! ^_^

I'm pretty sour about turns lasting longer than two months - and I, like Zangi, prefer one. If this many (nine, ten, perhaps more!) people want to participate in a Liberal Community Squad, and turns last three months, then you're looking towards people whose first turns will be two, three years after the game's started. For Liberal Crime Squad, that's just too much elapsed time. Wounded/occupied Liberals might not be much fun, but I highly doubt coming into the game and feeling you'll make no true impact on the outcome would be very fun either.

Since both you and Zangi brought up Alpha, though, I reckon that should be another question for discussion. I didn't plan on using Alpha and never thought of using Alpha until today; since 4.01.4's also the stable release, I naturally assumed that would be used. But if the Community wants to play 4.02 Alpha, then we'll play 4.02 Alpha. I'll likely be in charge of the first turn - for however long it is - and I can deal with Alpha's recruiting annoyances.

Actually, you're both making the same argument. On the one hand, you can't get much done in a month (which is not necessarily true, as youb could do other stuff while you wait for longer running tasks to finish). On the other hand, three month runs will have some people's first turn 1 or 2 years after the start of the game. Then they get three months to do something, then wait another year or two. And who's to tell if anything they did last time matters now? There's no longterm strategy that can be applied.

I'd vote for two month turns, so no-one is happy with the results. But I'm not even playing.

Two months is a good compromise.  Those turns where nothing happens for a month are rare enough that two in a row are unlikely.  And nobody said we can't rob the downtown apartments while bleeding all over the place...

Forget about long term strategy.  We got 10 players, and will likely pick up two more between now and start.  One turn every one/two years is no long term strategy.

  • Each player is alloted a span of forty-eight hours (too much? little?) to complete her turn - if you're short of ideas on what to do in the game, just hold down the W key on the main screen until your turn is over. If you exceed your time allotment, you will be skipped, and the save will pass to the next in line.

If we assume that "ideas" can be replaced with "time", you can probably remove my restriction.  I can usually find 10 minutes in a 48 hr period to press "W" 31 times, lol.

???: "But EuchreJack, what if you get sieged?  Won't that impose a much-higher time commitment?"

Not to worry!  I have a super secret siege time saver!

Looks like Nightmare with two month turns, likely using the Stable version (since there's few strong opinions regarding it). Whaddya say we give 48 hours for CCS-related opinions before we tally votes and whatnot in order to get this matter resolved?

Providing, of course, the participants here aren't too busy playing the new Dwarf Fortress! =P

I'm waiting for a less buggy release and the d# merge myself.

Honestly, the new version is sooo sloooow on loading (and in general) that I will most likely play both DF and LCS at the same time.

Who else 'loves' the 15 minutes of "loading game"?

Starting games is equally slow.  Avoid adventure mode!  At least the DF part of the game runs at a fairly decent clip, provided you do not pause, do not access any menus, and do not issue commands.  All of which could cause the game to glitch for a few minutes.

Yes let's get this started (in 48 hours)!

I think the new graphics code hasn't been merged in yet, perhaps that will help some of that.
I wish I had more time to play it right now (He had to release it right as I start moving).
