Statues

Why not apply the Engraving variety to the Statues?  Instead of a ohm sign of various materials, have the statues things or scenes, maybe even appropriate to the surroundings (like the engravings seem to be) where when you approach the temple you start to see carvings of Freaka, Human Diety of Dance.  Just a bit of extra flavour.

Sort of like these?  Or do you want it to be displayed like engravings are?

The only problem (unless some people have problems with statues of clouds and circles, but that's their problem!) I can see is that, according to Toady, dwarves won't actually take into account the statue descriptions properly in the next version; they'll be invisible to them. It would be very nice for this to change, as it feels strange to me for something like that to not matter except for the player's own sense of aesthetics.

Well shut my mouth.  =->
Those will add alot, but I do think that having the level of detail involved in the engravings would add something to them.
But I am, of course, a nerd.  =->

They will have the same level of detail as engravings, I believe. It's basically the same code.

Here's hoping, I've been wanting this feature for a while now.  It just didn't make much sense to me not to apply this to the statues.  Glad to see that's being remedied.

Half of the people here are nerds, another half are programmers, a good number are female and almost everyone worships a toad to the point it turned into a religion with a organized donation system. So you have enough company.

And for those of us completely OCD, you can keep making statues out of obsidian, goblinite, or glass, and just recycle the ones you don't want. Or chuck them into the chasm.

It would be very nice to be able to put statues of favorite things in certain areas of the fortress.

For example, if an important dwarf likes tentacle demons, fill her room with masterwork statues of tentacle demons.   :o
