The mechanics systems has some flaws (you can't even use a dagger without the skill? Come on, it should be THAT hard to figure out!), but I think that overall it is REALLY nice!

Hehe. Everytime I see a game that has a system like that, I always want to see an extremely well drawn portrait of a fighter holding the blade side of an edged weapon and brandishing the pommel/handle at the enemy while his hands are bleeding.

Went down a couple days ago. I am missing it sooo bad.

And yeah, there's a number of annoying or just plain weird things about it
(You can have three seperate short blade skills that level up independently)
but overall its a good system.

I'd really like to see it expanded on, and some of the sillier things get taken out, but alas.
If I were doing it everyone would start out with a "general weapons" skill that leveled very slowly and was only half as effective but let them use any weapon.

Good news.  Blood Dusk will be returning in the next week, and with it comes version 8.  the server it was on was officially decommissioned a little over 2 years ago and the owners have just recently discovered it was still operating, and shut it down.  Arslajin, one of the administrators, has found new hosting and should have it back up and running.  I'll post back when i have the new location, and port.  8)

--P.S.  it's good to finally find out where the recent influx of newbies has been coming from.  i stumbled across this thread when googling "Blood Dusk"  in attempt to maybe find out where the new host might be going, lol.  anyhow with the move comes the unfortunate situation of remaking our characters.   i, however wont complain too much, i've been having trouble getting the set of maturations i was looking for anyway.   hopefully when we get back up, I'll be  seeing you all there.

Oh, cool. Good to hear, thanks for the news!

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Pnx

The pwipe will actually make it more accessible to newbies anyway, but I'm glad to hear it's coming back, I felt like the world was punishing me for turning my back on the game for a week.

I've wanted to try a MUD/MOO/whatever for a while now, and you guys seem to think so highly of it, so...

Is there a free MUD client out there I can use for this? Running Discworld MUD from Putty wasn't a lot of fun.

Lesse... SimpleMU probably supports MUD stuff the best (though it's currently abandonware), Potato MUSH Client has a lot of SimpleMUs functionality in something active. Then you've got zMUD and cMUD (30-day trial, and then pay for. Absurd ripoff in this day and age, but it will ease most tasks a ton)

That's about the extent of my MUD client experiences. (Or rather the ones that are still around.)

Further inquiry is left as an exercise for the reader: http://www.mudconnect.com/resources/Mud_Resources:Mud_Clients.html

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

Thats puttytel, it has many applications, but most notably is its use for telnet. This application is actually recommended for use on the connection page of Blood Dusk, which is still down.

yes, puttytel is a good free client for windows.  if you have the money, or the will to crack it zMUD is pretty good as well.
for linux however i'd recommend Gnome-MUD, or purely going with the standard telnet terminal(note you'd have to type "screen" and hit enter first, then "telnet <host> <port>" in the newer versions to get it to display properly.  i have yet to find a mud client that displays Blood Dusk better then these three.  others seem to have a problem with overlapping the text, and end up garbling everything :(

Yeah, most of the fancy ones I know of don't play great with it. I've just been using putty, but since the game itself has some alright appearance mods thats been fine for me.

So... anyone know if its up again yet?

as far as i know, it'll just be a reset, unless Arslajin decides he wants to push that faction revamp he was talking about doing before v7 started. unfortunately i don't have a direct line to him, so i don't know what he has planned for certain.  might open up the lotus hotel area.. he might not.  from what i understand it was mostly done.  in what compacity again i don't know, im not a builder....i should change that though :P

and i understand your urge to play quite well...i've been a bit antsy myself since i heard that it wasn't going to be just allowed to die after all.   i for one, am quite eager to get back to my forge where i belong.

I'm eager to get back to heavily modded taoken. . .though I may choose not to mod him after I received some enlightenment from last version. Hmmmm.

aye... mods should be reserved for specific builds, with taokens im not so sure they are worth the effort, involved with getting mods, really, given their draw backs. there are a couple good ones i could list that would be great with mods.  But it does depend on how much of specific stats you do get in your matures.
