Actually, there really is a good chance that the merge will happen after the release.
Really?  I thought I would have read something about that... do you have a source?

Wait - for you, that question's about on par with the question of "Has a mutant stolen your account name?"  *Ahem*.  Let me start again.

Oh great avatar of the search function, please grace our puny minds with a citation.

I actually don't have anything to cite, and it's not 100% certain either way.  But don't be surprised if it happens later.

I have Baughn to cite, if that helps. That's what he said on IRC, anyway (that it's likely to happen shortly after the initial release, not before), although I'm sure it's subject to change.

I'm pretty sure he also said that it may happen in one of the donation threads so it gets out earlier.

I can back Foot up on this, Toady said it was indeed a possibility.

The whole "Sequence of numbers" titles always confused me... My mind, it is weak.
Once done, what will the new release be titled? "40 Double D?"

The numbering is only sequential for the OpenGL/SDL versions. The main version number indicates how many core/req/bloat items have been complete, I think. The letter is the bugfix version on a given major release. The full 'official' version is: v0.28.181.40d, it will be completely different with the new release. Look at the download page to see how the version numbers have changed in the past.
