Ahh, an update!

Reading it over, I have to give it a great big gem-window decorated D  :P

Sure hope your computer's doing better, seems like it is.

Dotgood... .good! The honesties of leading... the dwarves have spoken, they are in support of you and your D!  Perhaps the throne's for placing outside a window for comfortable viewing position - I notice it distinctly lacks spikes!

And yes, my computer is much better, but the guy who fixed it saw fit to install Windows 7, which is adamant to remain unintuitive and annoying.

Yeahh, things have been a bit slow. It'd be nice to get my turn out of the way before I started work. @_@

Sorry about the lateness, here's Autumn.

Diary of 'Drake' Libaddodok

3rd Limestone
Digging us up some cassiterite. Just in case.

8th Limestone
Struck some bismuthinite. Anyone else think that's a silly name, or is it just me?

9th Limestone
A caravan has arrived with a city liason! Huzzah for breaking the monotony!

11th Limestone
Seeing as we're doing a bit of alright, I just ordered more food and more booze from the caravans.

15th Limestone
Another ambush, and from what I can garner, they've once again stopped to kill a kitty.

16th Limestone
The goblins took down a potash maker while he was just outside the fortress. I've dispatched some wrestlers to the scene.
Have I mentioned our wrestlers are awesome? Two of them cut down the entire ambush in moments, the only injury sustained being a damaged right arm.

17th Limestone
Gave the traders a bin full of clothes, most of which they couldn't wear. In return, I took all their metal, jewels and booze. Starting to think humans aren't the only people with strange desires..

18th Limestone
It's fair to assume this guy is reasonably dead.

19th Limestone
Damnation! Another ambush showed up just after we'd finished with the last. I don't fancy our wrestler's chances against their marksdwarves, so I'm ordering a tactical retreat.

20th Limestone
As I predicted, our men are dying like elves out there! We've lost a guard and an elite wrestler already! They've anihilated a squad!
The goblins just keep gathering! I've ordered all our dwarves to stay indoors.

25th Limestone
The Count's throwing a tantrum. Just as well I assumed the position of leader. We don't want the kind of dwarf who is so easily bothered leading our fortress.

12th Sandstone
Absolutely nothing worth reporting is going on.

15th Sandstone
Mining's coming on a bit slow..

21st Sandstone
Some siege operator got possessed.

23rd Sandstone
Got a few migrants. Mostly useless.

16th Timber
A champion died of thirst. Odd, considering we've got so much booze.
Also, a fire snake got into my Big D. Not sure how

Do you only have one type of booze? Because if you do, they'll get unhappy and only drink water or other types of booze.

Well if you remove the [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] tag from dwarves I think they have like 2-4 children each time they give birth. And if you get enough mothers up on the pillars you can probably get a good waterfall going.

Considering I'd taken all the booze from the dwarven caravan that'd just come, it seems unlikely.
I'd to work on winter immediately, you guys.

Diary of 'Drake' Libaddodok
5th Moonstone
Hark, the mighty Tun Imp has ventured to the mines to help us dig. Quite the honour indeed!

10th Moonstone
I believe I shall make a platform above my D for people to  mingle, perhaps throw in a statue or two.

13th Moonstone
Mayor McMath's given birth to a little lad.

25th Moonstone
A miner's died of thirst now. This is certainly odd.

26th Moonstone
Bloody hell, there's goblins all over the place.

27th Moonstone
One of our wrestlers just took down an ambush, and I've figured out how all the snatchers are getting in. I left the back door open.

3rd Opal
And another ambush.
Dealt with.

5th Opal
Those goblin bastards, they're attacking an innocent horse!
Oh, they are going down

17th Opal
My viewing platform is coming along nicely.

25th Opal
The platform base is nearly done.
Oh, and wouldn't you know it, a metalcrafter's gone fey.

1st Obsidian
The metalcrafter made an idol.

4th Obsidian
My viewing deck is complete. I chose to erect it in the image of a naked flame, a tribute to the dwarven skill with a forge.

13th Obsidian
Looks like my flame-shaped observation deck/statue garden is fairly popular.

21st Obsidian
Before the year passes, I shall order some coins of our metalcrafters to commemorate it.

1st Granite
Well, that it's for my second reign. I feel I've brought this fortress back to it's former and glory. As my final act of restoring this fortress, I restore it's tradition of leadership, and drop this journal where I stand; by complete coincidence, just to the left of my Big D.

Thus ends the year of 209, along with the entries of Drake Libaddodok.

Awesome sauce.

I'll get to work right away. I actually haven't seen the fort aside from my initial turn and screenshots, so this is sure to be fun. Updates will come soon, if the lag isn't too extreme.

Granite 1 - 210

"They call me Snake. I slither in the darkest regions of the fortress, and I have no fear. I've defeated over a thousand goblins and I've pillaged and razed entire cities. Tremble before me!"

"Hey Fikod! Get back to making Lye!" Another dwarf shouted from across the room.

"My name is Snake! And I don't even know what lye is!" I huffed and stormed out of the room. The Dwarves here at Lokumidek didn't respect me, and it was upsetting. To further add insult to injury, they've assigned me to the position of Lye Maker. What the hell is Lye? Screw it. I'm going to go and pick up a pick axe and put it through someone's skull. Wait.. What's this? Walking the perimeter of the Lava pipe, I happened upon a a small dusty book. I read the front cover of it, which was covered in scribbles from various names. In the very center of the page, it read "Kamudo". Feeling a bit curious, Snake plopped down on the bank of the lava pool and began reading the dusty tome.

"To he who reads this book, be advised..." Snake looked out over the lava, chuckling a bit to himself. "This book grants the bearer full ownership of the settlement of Lokumidek, which will be settled in the coming spring of 200. Please be aware that this is a new idea, and could lead the fort to ruin. I have assigned Solon Kamudo to under take this... It's obvious that she can do it. -The Queen" Snake's eyes gleamed, and he flipped through the pages, reading for days on end about the accounts of various Dwarves. Finally, he finished reading.

Granite 7 - 210

I visited the grave of Kamudo. I said a little prayer to her patron god, Lisig. I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of loss for her.

Granite 12 - 210
"Writing on the mountain! Writing!" One of the other Dwarves, a hunter, begun screaming hysterically. As usual, most of the fort ran out to see what was going on. We stood on the mountainside, all staring in awe at the writing on the ground. Most of us couldn't read, so I stepped forward, reading the letters in surprise. "It reads... Kamudo." As soon as I finished speaking, two guards came up to me, Zasit and Lor.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"Come with us, Fikod. And don't give us any of that Snake crap." I obeyed, and we walked with them.

We arrived at the mayor's office. He was sitting on his fat butt. "I see you've come into possession of a fine book of mine. I would like it back, young man." I shook my head. "You see, I need that book so I can cover up what's about to happen, and blame it on you." He stood up and walked over to me. "You see, Kamudo was a special woman... She was a witch. SpearBrain was founded on the ideals that she could be free from witch hunters. But now that she's dead, that puts me in charge. And if the way leadership in this fort ever got out, I'd be ruined." He reached out for the book.

"I'm sorry, Fatass McMath, but this here book belongs to me now! That makes me the leader!" I reached out and punched him square in the face, ducking under the guards and running out of the office. I held a meeting later that day, safe among friends. "I have recently come into possession of a book. This book, grants the user power over the fort for a year. And I've recently learned that.. The original holder of the book may be upset with us. So... Let's build a shrine to honor her, or something."

"Hey snake, you're crazy, bro." A bunch of the Dwarves laughed.

"I'm serious! Kamudo was a witch, and who else could've written that stuff on the mountain?" The Dwarves all murmured together and came to the agreement that Snake was now the leader.

Mc Math was in another room, watching the meeting, laughing to himself while he paid off a mason. "Some fools.. Never learn."

Granite 13 - 210

I awoke the next morning, feeling like I had a purpose for this thriving settlement. Things were going right for once. I opened the journal and scribbled into it and then flipped through some of the names of previous fort leaders. I counted the following as still living: Mayor Mc. Math; Grim (Heh, he's got a cool name.); Drake... The guy who made the fort contruct a giant D over the magma pit; Lucied, who is our clerk; and a one Tun Imp. It would be in my best interest to speak with them all. Before I had time to act however, A Dwarf ran through the fort screaming "An Elven Diplomat has arrived!" Dwarves like to shout the news, don't they?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Granite 14 - 210

Still waiting on the diplomat to move his slow ass. Some men were requesting jobs, I got the miners to work on exploratory mining and assigned jobs to some other men. I have given up looking for the others until time permits me to.

Granite 16 - 210

An Elven Caravan has arrived. I scratched my head and decided to do nothing at the moment, since the screaming dwarf seems to be a bit... I don't know. I'll wait until they're within the castle.

Granite 19 - 210

I was informed that the Elven diplomat finally arrived. I went to Mc Math's office and stood there with him while the Elf spoke. He asked that we only cut down one hundred trees. I nodded and told him that it was a fine agreement, despite his snide comments about our height. Once the diplomat had left, Mc Math turned to the woodcutter in the room. "Cut them all down."

"What?! We gave those Elves our word. I'm in charge here, and I say no." I turned to the wood cutter and shook my head.

"You may be leader by definition of that book, but I am mayor and my word is law, I control the military, and this fort. Now get out of my sight." He then turned to the wood cutter. "Cut down every tree you can find." I left the room, feeling quite upset.

Slate 1 -210

An Ambush! Curse them!

Funny, they jumped the woodcutter, who killed them with ease.

Slate 3 - 210

Another Ambush, these guys don't give up.

Thank you Grim.

I want to interact with the other player controlled characters eventually, does it matter how they act?
