Thank you Grim.

I want to interact with the other player controlled characters eventually, does it matter how they act?

Where possible, try to stay kinda true to whatever personality they had shown before?  Especially if the character had been recently shown.  Like with Tun Imp... it's been almost a decade.  I've no idea who she is anymore, and she's probably not too crazy now.  Wouldn't jar me much to hear she was different now.  But the characters displayed recently, the last few years, they probably are more similar to 'how they were'... then again, self-reporting isn't always real, and 'who someone is' through a different person's eyes isn't always anything like how that person would say they were.  Looking forward to reading what you have to write!

Yeah, thanks Imp, I'll go back through and read different years, maybe it'll help me use them better. ^^; I'm not planning on killing anyone, it's all for story flair, the fort is still running normally, mostly.

This is actually the first time I've ever played a game with a tax collector and baron. I got one before, but my fort collapsed before they even got to the front door.

Quote
I was informed that the Elven diplomat finally arrived. I went to Mc Math's office and stood there with him while the Elf spoke. He asked that we only cut down one hundred trees. I nodded and told him that it was a fine agreement, despite his snide comments about our height. Once the diplomat had left, Mc Math turned to the woodcutter in the room. "Cut them all down."

That is the manly way

^^

great story telling here bro

Thanks, Math. ^^

Sorry for making McMath out as a dick, but that's how I see him, being a noble and all. xD

If Drake's personality is relevant, make him the kind of mildly-insane narcissist who would build a Big D for himself, then give himself the biggest bedroom in the fortress adjacent to that Big D. I don't think I really developed his personality beyond that, so make it up as you wish from there.

Yeah, working on it.

The fort is a pain in the ass with only 8 FPS. D: But it's inching along.

Slate 4 - 210

The Goblin ambush at the front gate was hilarious. A dog and a champion caused them to flee within an hour.

Some woman named Lokum gave birth to a boy, not my concern, really.

Slate 5 - 210

"Tun Imp has created a masterpiece". I heard one of the Dwarves run past shouting this. So, I took the opportunity to head past the clothier's shop, which the journal had told me that this Imp was supposed to be employed. I stood in the entrance to the shop and smiled lightly, seeing one of the fort's earliest leaders with my own eyes. The effects of a good seven years seemed very visible upon her face, compared to most other dwarves. Or perhaps it was just that she was tired. "Excuse me, Tun Imp?"

She looked up and raised an eyebrow. "That be me, what do you need?" Her eyes landed on the journal in my hands. "Ah, that book brings back memories of the early days, doesn't it, lad?"

"I actually came here to ask you about Solon Kamudo." I explained the current happenings in the fort to Imp. "So, you see.. I want your opinion on everything that's going on."

Tun Imp sighed lightly. "Lad, that be many a year ago, but still my memory is as clear as if it t'were yesterday." She begun explaining." As you can probably read, things started out fine, but then took a turn for the worse. Due to the extreme drought, it was tough for the forts early years, which led to the death of Solon. May Lilar bless her bristly unshaven beard.."

"I thought you and Kamudo had a rivalry and a grudge?"

"Aye, but it was all in good spirit ya see? Ya know when little Dwarven brothers and sisters squabble and fight, and say they hate each other? It was much like that. True I didn't like her at the time, but over the years I've come to terms that she was a good leader, and I do miss her terribly, if only to punch her and wrestle one last time."

I nodded slowly. "So, you believe Kamudo was a witch?"

"Nay, laddie. She was a lot of things, but never any witch. I think your McMath be putting you on a wild hoary marmot chase. I'd be careful if I was you. McMath has the Hammerer and the guards at his disposal. Old traditions mean very little in the eyes of the Dwarven justice and power systems. Watch yourself."

Slate 10 - 210

A snatcher made off with a child. It's a shame, but I'm concerned how they managed to get into the fort. I still get lost wandering its halls myself.

Slate 13 - 210

Hammer changed the price on goods, Count is unhappy, I don't care.

Slate 16 - 210

The Elves have embarked on their journey. They didn't even get to the trading post.. So... What the hell?

Slate 23 - 210

Another snatcher. Wonderful.

Slate 24 - 210

I've expanded the exploratory mining project, since the journal talks about an underground lake. Mc Math's woodcutters are hacking away at the seemingly infinite forests around us.

Slate 25 - 210

A dog named Fikod has died. He will be missed.

Slate 27 -210

Shouts from the mountain again. But, nobody was up there this time, so I went to investigate. Alone. I happened upon a small door, nestled inside a little canyon to the south of the Kamudo mark on the ground.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I approached the door, but paused, a feeling of dread spreading over my body. What was this place? "You... should leave. Before it's too late." A female voice spoke behind me, but when I turned, nobody was there. Feeling uneasy, I slid open the stone door and peered into the darkness. It was different than the fortress's darkness, at least that was dimly lit due to the magma flowing around. Inching my into the darkness, the door slid closed behind him. Now, being completely unable to see, I moved forward, stumbling in the dark. As I passed a few statues, fires ignited in their eyes, illuminating the dark hallway. Looking up at the statues, they seemed to be some sort of Dwarfs donned in wizards clothing.

"Snake." A whisper called out to me from deeper in. "Over here." I froze in my footsteps. It wasn't the female voice that I heard before. I dashed to his right, running past a demonic armor stand and through a door. Safe on the other side of the door, I continued down the hall a few steps, only to see it was caved in that way. "You're going the wrong way." I turned around, seeing nobody around me. Picking up a rock, I went back into the main room, to one of the statues, and retrieved the wooden staff from its hands. Jabbing the staff in the flaming eye socket, I created a nice torch. Tossing the rock to the side, I slowly walked out into the center of room, seeing this place was quite old. "Watch out." A strong wind picked up blowing the journal out of my hands and down a hall to the east.

"No no no." I began to panic, having lost he journal, and my fire was going out. Taking the flask from my pocket, I quickly drank some, but before swallowing, I sprayed it out into the small flame. Engulfing the whole room in temporary light. Shadowy figured with crooked teeth menaced all around, slowly walking towards me as the flames extinguished themselves.

I heard a woman screaming. "Snake?! Snake! SNAAAAAAKKKKEEEE!!!"

Chapter 1 - The book of Leadership - End

Stay tuned for Chapter 2 - The Crypt, Witch and the !!Pig-Tail Sock!!

-------
Well, pretty much one more month left in spring. It's taking a lot longer than I had thought. Even if I leave the game running while going off to eat, the time doesn't seem to really.. go anywhere.

Depending on the time taken, and the size of the fort, we may edit the time length to two weeks max.

Anyways, any comments on the story thus far?

Lawl, I also probably should've cut out my Vista bar at the bottom. xD But whatever. Add me on AIM sometime. I'm TheXemnas. o.o

Ugh. My cat was crawling on the keyboard and crashed the game. So I'm now back at Slate 4. -_- So... Yeah. I've just lost all motivation at this moment.

*offers comfort and cries*

I still enjoy your writing style, that's one of the reasons why I joined your fortress.  I loved your idea of the book, it gave a neat IC 'reason' for the succession of turns, despite the internal politics of the dwarven outpost itself.

So, it was good? >.>

How was the interaction with Imp in the fort?

Snakes not dead. It's all part of my dynamic plotline. o.o

Oh, I'm crying about the crashed game, and your lost motivation.

I enjoyed reading that.  I think Tun Imp might talk just like that now, it didn't jar me at all.

Ah. Well, I just let the game run again, so all of the stuff I did was done again, and I let it run until Hematite 6. I'm not going to edit my entries, so if there's any discrepancies, then sue me. :P

The story will pick back up in early summer with Imp taking care of a comatose Snake, who has just awoken. Then they're going to team up with Drake and grim to possibly find out what's going on and.. I don't wanna spoil too much.

I tried to emulate the way Imp spoke in your original turn, it kinda didn't go that well. ^^;

Those were her private thoughts, expressed in writing after being composed for however long.  You've written things, I'm sure  :P  How much do your written sentences sound like your spoken ones?  Not much at all, if you're like almost everyone.  Besides, it's been 8 years, and Tun Imp went from being one person at the start, to being almost another person, both heartbroken and insane at the end of the journal.  Now she's someone else (and possibly has changed many times over the years), and not even I know what her goals or reasons are now, I've not looked to closely at her since her year of the journal ended.
