Slight snag. Is there any way I can open RAR files for free?
Scratch that, I have the technology. Just gonna sort out the cat mouth problem and get started.

My first thought, of course; What's with the weird colours?

Diary of 'Drake' Libaddodok

1st Granite, Early Spring
Looks like I'm in charge. It's good to be in power for once.
Then again.. this place is confusing as an Elf's moral code. Seriously, they eat each other but they abhor the cutting down of trees? What's up with that.
Oh yeah, running a fortress.
I don't know much about this place's workings, so I suppose I'll just take problems as they come to me.
Ah, what a way to ring in the new year. Inod the carpenter has given birth to a girl. Lovely.

4th Granite
Hm. A pump operator's been taken by a fey mood. Now seems as good a time as any to mention that I have no clue how pumps work. Predictably, he has claimed a Craftsdwarf's workshop.

9th Granite
As we have no problems, I shall make myself a nice bedroom. If I accomplish nothing else this year, I'll be remembered.

12th Granite
I shall order the construction of more doors. A fortress can never have too many spare doors, just in case.
In other news, the pump operator made a braclet.

18th Granite
When ordering a metal statue to be made for my bedroom, I found nobody was taking up the task. When I asked a metalsmith, I found he had been told he was not permitted to do any kind of metalcraft, but for some reason was allowed to burn wood. I undid this idiotic descision.

24th Granite
Finally, some excitement. A thief has appeared.
Well, the thief and a companion escaped with an item of clothing I didn't have time to identify. He used a small gap in the wall, which I can't decide whether or not it's there for a reason. It's next to the magma pool, so it might be some escape route should the magma smelting operation go balls-up. I'll put a floodgate there to keep it sealed when I need it so.

27th Granite
Damnation! One of those thieves made off with an artifact! Ebbuszan, a short skirt.

5th Slate, Mid Spring
Migrants! They came to this dangerous place in spite of the knowledge that it may at one point become their tomb! Delightful. Also, they brought a Dungeon Master. Joy!

13th Slate
We're pretty much out of water right now. Hope spring brings rain, because we need every drop we can get. I ordered drinks to be brewed ad infinitum, so we may be alright.

21st Slate
As there is nothing interesting going on other than the perpetual thirst of everyone in the fortress. I'll give a quick status report of the changes I've made. I've allowed metalsmiths to do their work, I've built a floodgate to block up the flaw in the fortress design/emergency escape route, with a lever in my bedroom to open and close it, I've built a bowyer's workshop on the ground floor, and I've built a nice bedroom for myself next to the magma pool.
God I hope the idiot that came before me ordered booze from the caravans. So thirsty.

27th Slate
I've decided to build a kennel and train up some war dogs to add to our military might.

13th Felsite, Late Spring
Still boring. Still dry. Absolutely no developements. I saw a toad.

This is all I've heard.

14th Felsite
I guess I'll have some real armour built for our soldiers. They're walkin' around in silk.

25th Felsite
Thirst has claimed it's first victim in one of our axedwarves.

And with that, the Spring report concludes.

Hehe, you will probably want to turn off announcements so the spam stops and forbid the buckets so dwarves dont waste time jumping on them all the time.

Also yay new dungeon master.  I kinda like those, they just sit around liking cloaks and melt goblin stuff. Too bad I got the last one killed.

4th Hematite, Early Summer
I've recruited some other dwarf to make up the axedwarf numbers. I don't recall who she was, but I'm sure she wasn't important. I've began to outfit them with iron armour (I refuse to spell that word the way they do in the Western Mountains).

6th Hematite
Didn't see an existing graveyad, so I'll get order an undergroud tomb build in front of the fortress.

10th Hematite
Apparently there is a graveyard already. But I can't find it and mine's nicer.

12th Hematite
Bomrek Lorbamegdoth, a woodworker, is the second to fall to thirst.

15th Hematite
The humans are here, so let's see what they're after.
Oh buggar, snatchers. Of course, a child runs outside for no reason.

17th Hematite
Some 'Tun Imp' woman has been elected mayor. Doesn't matter to me, I'm still in charge of this place. Not sure if I should be pleased about that.

20th Hematite
Goblin ambush! Let's hope our soldiers are up to it.

23th Hematite
Dastardly! Just when I thought we were safe, a second ambush arrives.

25th Hematite
And again..

1st Malachite, Mid-Summer
Okay, I think that's the last of the attacks. We lost a child, a peasant, a brave marksdwarf, a war dog and a puppy. Oh, and a jeweller. Thankfully, those puppy-killing goblin gits were erradicated.

The blood..

3rd Malachite
Have ordered the building of coffins and melting of goblin armour.

7th Malachite
Minor large miasma problem on the ground floor. Should be fine.

11th Malachite
Having a large 'D' built out of Andesite over the magma. It'll be fine.

13th Malachite
A woodcrafter has been possessed. Lovely. He's claimed a craftsdwarf's workshop.

17th Malachite
And we're back to complaining about the water.

20th Malachite
The possessed dwarf made an oaken amulet. Yay.

24th Malachite
The large 'D' didn't go as planned. One peasant died. Whoops.

2nd Galena, Late Summer
There. The Large D is finished. It may not be the most imposing monument, but it's there. Whenever magma-related business is dealt with in future, they will see my D, and think, "Yeah, Drake was awesome. None of the other leaders made a large letter above magma."

21st Galena
Idrath, I'm bored..

Funny writing style there.

Those are also some mighty useless artifacts your getting there. Woodcrafting. Blagh!
At least the last one has an image of a goblin getting killed.

Anyhow, you do realise the game has more than 1 z-level? The graveyards are at the bottom of the fortress. Its the place with all the coffins. Kinda hard to miss I though.

Oops. I think I saw that place once when I was exploring the fortress at first, didn't really take note of the coffins and never bothered delving down so far any more. Either way, I have my own pointless graveyard site now. Nobody else has to use it, but I will.
And thanks for the compliment.

Egads, me dwarf is still alive and drinking.  I'd pretty much given her up as a ghost ;p.

Glad this story's continuing, and great to see more new joiners too.  Haven't seen our Kamudo in a bit, but hopefully the game will keep growing and flowing with everyone who is involved!

3rd  Limestone, Early Autumn
Okay. I looked away for a few minutes and suddenly my other Marksdwarf is dead. How did that happen?

10th Limestone
This place is so boring!

11th Limestone
You wait for one interesting event to occur and then two occur in tandem! The caravan from the Mountainhomes has arrived and an axedwarf is throwing a tantrum. Yippee!

15th Limestone
The axedwarf calmed down, I ordered booze and seeds, all is well.

17th Limestone
I had some floor near the entrance smoothed, then engraved.
I'm just bored..

19th Limestone
Thank Idrath, an ambush. I needed some excitement.
Hm. The Mountainhomes dwarves just sorta stepped out and smacked the non-cagetrapped goblins to death. Anticlimactic, but enjoyable.

8th Sandstone, Mid-Autumn
So bored! Grah.

24th Sandstone
Ordered a siege workshop, mostly out of boredom and curiosity.

4th Timber, Late Autumn
Another axedwarf died of thirst. I can barely muster the strength to care at this point.
Damnit, when I tell the brewers to repeatedly brew drinks, I mean it!

11th Timber
A child has withdrawn from society. Interesting.

15th Timber
One of our recruits has given birth to a boy. I'm considering giving her leave. Also, the child is working away in a craftsdwarf's workshop.

16th Timber
And we have another artefact bracelet.

I've ordered for our things to be decorated with bone. It's not like we don't have plenty of them.

25th Timber
And our last axedwarf dies of thirst. With a military full of recruits, I shall build ballistae to help.
I fear I shall be remembered for the fact that the entire military died in my jurisdiction, rather than my Large D.

28th Timber
Another girl born by some carpenter.

Should have winter done tomorrow, if my internet connection remains stable. Pray for me.

My internet connection did not remain stable.

16th Moonstone, Early Winter
Due to a safety oversight one expects to see in a Urist McChaplin comedy, a carpenter died whislt assisting the construction of a chimney for dealing with the miasma generated by the butcher's shop.

27th Moonstone
Huh. We ran out of bone.

7th Obsidian, Late Winter
I haven't written in this journal for a while, but literally nothing is happening. Test fired one of the ballistae.
It went further than I anticipated.
Hundreds of feet further. I shall have someone mount an expedition to retreive the arrow.

10th Obsidian
Arrow retreived. Should we ever be attacked from the other side of the range, we'll have a use for it.

23rd Obsidian
Experimenting with catapult locations. Just behind the cage traps seems to be the only place within the fortress that would work. Hope we all brushed up on dodging boulders.

25th Obsidian
The test fire went relatively well. No dwarves were horribly maimed and the gem that the idiot used as a projectile went straight through the route the goblins take. Can't seem to find it now. It's like it vanished into thin air.

30th Obsidian
Well, looks like my rule has come to an end. I'll give myself a nice cushy job as Village Manager and toss this journal into the halls, as per tradition. It's been an unremarkable year, but I've got some stuff done. I've solved our lack of water by building a second still and having the brewers work without relent, I've introduced seige equipment and war dogs to our military, I've made the fortress more smithing-friendly, I've overseen the death of every experienced military dwarf we had, I've built a chimney to deal with the raging miasma, I've built myself a nice bedroom, a nice tomb and a nice monument and I've ignored every sensible thought that entered my mind.

(Pictures maybe later)
How do I zip the folder?

This instruction on zipping it up is what works with my win 7 comp.

Open your df folder to the saves, and right click on the game folder (if you need help how to find that just keep asking)

Select the option, 'Add to gamename.rar' (your gamename will surely vary)

This will place a zipped up version of the game in the same folder for you to upload.

There we have a save. Whoever comes next, a list of things you shouldn't touch:
Me
My monument
My tomb
My bedroom
Magma

Things you should probably touch:
Siege equipment
The smithing room
The farm (Which I left as it was)
Magma
