DEAR RITHOL WHY

-snip-

I chose to cross the mountains. I took a brief detour to summit the Peaked Helm. Since night was falling I slept on the peak. The next day I made it down and now I'm fighting a dragon.

Tpfheheh! My sides!

Oh dear, a dragon. In the last DF version I tried out playing as a Draenei necromancer lass with the help of DFhack and happened to fight a dragon with just a drolth and a shield, also my character was a so called waifu to a draenei male she found interesting enough and had him follow around her. No harm came to her spouse/loved one but she herself at one instance caught the dragon's fire and I had to revert the save and doing so allowed me to catch the dragon pretty much off-guard and swipe its head off... but then the new DF version came out with the promise of adv-mode building and site claiming and ruling and without DFhack I can't play as a mortal so that was my version of an adventuring failure.

For me failure in DF means to have a character who I didn't get right or a character who I did get right but some other issue prevented from going further like that longest adventuring run as Dhorna when she was still a minothar instead of an ischrotaur and I found out a huge mistake in my creature raw regarding relsizes with arms which meant creating a new character to even fix that farce! I hate losing and I hate failures, damnit I had almost already all of it going with Kothir (Dhorna's lover/spouse) and had Dhorna's fame pretty much set in adamantine in the local civ to travel either further north or further west. Damn mistake in the raws. *sigh*

Which now that I think about it was a perfect excuse for me to finally go all Khorne-esque character for a time being and let all the rage flow into my ingame body and weapons and kill stuff with it.

Able to learn? Give them reading skills... evil laughter

Bronze colossus gestures!

Corpse shudders and begins to move!

I can make them read, but it won't do me any good until I remove the NOT_LIVING token from them, and I have even LESS need for necromancy when I'm already neutral towards undead. ;w;

That reminds me, I could also work on my mod that adds intelligent dragons. Or maybe that full-fledged entity overhaul to implement the civilizations from a fantasy setting I've mucked about with before...

I have actually made dragons intelligent myself, sorta made them a cross of Warcraft and Dragon's Dogma dragons, along with having more than 1 variant (blue dragons, red dragons, etc.). I mean, it doesn't do much besides allowing them to talk, but eh.

Damn, I wish I had checked what civ I'm starting from. Not much around here except beast man and iron guardian sites...former doesn't even have a large town nearby, latter isn't as fun since no blood sprays.

Oh well, died anyway since for some reason head blows that only bruise the brain seem to kill undead instantly. Gonna try another creature.

Went with a duke of flies this time. Might be a bit easier since I have a bunch of redundant limbs, can fly and can raise the dead as ghouls, amongst other dark magic.

So I killed the dragon. It wasn't that hard, though I did have to use my pale metal short sword instead of my copper whip. Dragons are still pushovers.

After that I was feeling pretty needy, so I visited a nearby dwarven fortress. I danced for the people at the depot, argued with an elf, and filled a bag with 100 quaffs of dwarven rum. Then, drunk as a lord, I set out for Containtick.

Nearly a week of travel later, I arrived at Containtick. I think I cut off about another week or two with that shortcut through the mountains. The lag wasn't too bad - Ilral can jog forever, so the going was merely slow. I made it to the dark castle and got out my crescent pale metal halberd and got to chopping. I butchered a beak dog on my way up, since I was running out of capybara. I made it to the throne room.

Her untranslated name is Veilholes the Web of Seduction, a name that turned my 'yes' into 'double yes'. Despite the name she's only associated with theft. She's a bowdemon and a general by trade, but a bow is a terrible waste of perfectly good demon muscle. I'm getting her a great axe or something as soon as possible.

Also, there's another lizard demon in the world, this one a male. I passed his dark fortress twice on the way to the vault and back, but didn't go kill him because I didn't want to deal with the lag. It looks like it wouldn't have been that bad, but whatever, too late now.

...clearly this means you should get her to wear only a giant cave spider silk thong. :V

Maybe, there are two things causing me problems with my personal idea though. One is that I don't have anything that'd be a good stand-in for ice, lightning, and corrosive breath. Well, I guess corrosive breath has syndromes for that, but superchilled liquid, gas, powder etc doesn't really freeze enemies very quickly.

The second is one I might now be able to fix, thanks to the potential for civilizations having more support for multi-species populations. I'd need...a civ that's mostly humans and angels, a civ that's mostly orcs and goblins, a civ that's mostly dragons, elves, wolfmen, and half-dragons, a civ that's a mix of humans, elves, angels, and vampires...then finally a demonic civ. o3o

Lightning is simple, I think - what I did for my bronze dragons is a material that has a high temperature and causes paralysis, with a trailing gas flow delivery. Ice is a bit more complicated, since even when it has a really low temperature it doesn't really cause frostbite or anything - the stand-in I have for it is for ice breath to cause blistering and a temporary lowered speed, with a gas flow delivery again. I'm gonna do corrosive for my green dragons, which I think would be simple too - just make it cause bleeding with a vapor flow delivery. What I'm scratching my head about though is black dragons - I guess since WoW black dragons are mostly associated with earth, they'd have a magma breath or something.

My dragons are still megabeasts though, I have a multi-caste "draconian" stand-in for playable dragons, though. I have a demon civ too, again multi-caste and based off of WoW.

Yup, things definitely just went all Slaanesh here. :o Could use some of that good time to ease my sorrows along with some pot if it was legal as I've been in constant tension for days now trying to do relaxing methods and failing every damn time.

That might work for lightning, yeah. For ice...not suire, any reason not to use the solid version? Would seem to fit the idea of it being ice. But yeah, corrosive is the easiest, since I've already hashed out fairly appropriate effects for corrosion when giving shoggoths in Adventurecraft such an effect. Also, if I ever do make this mod, I can see hilarious confusion ensuing due to their being grey dragons instead of black and white, with blue being ice and grey being lightning. o3o

Now that I think about it, it might be simpler to implement a different time period in said setting, where the civilizations were simpler to hash out.

For ice...not suire, any reason not to use the solid version?
I myself go for gaseous ice breath (or frost breath, to be more precise) since that seems to be the form most fantasy games use, instead a whirl of solid chunks of ice - I already have a "flap wings" attack for every type of dragon that kicks up solid dust which knocks everything around, so it would be kind of redundant, anyway.
For the solid and liquid forms I just have regular solid/liquid glob projectiles, i.e liquid frost/liquid lightning or ice ball/ball lightning. Latter function as strong projectiles that can break bones and knock creatures back, former just cause the syndrome and associated temperature effect in case of the lightning.

I'm sorta taking liberties with black and green dragons tbh, since in Warcraft black dragons just have regular dragonfire and green dragons have green fire (atleast in WC3) and not a corrosive breath - gotta make it more unique, though, I suppose.

Yup, things definitely just went all Slaanesh here. :o Could use some of that good time to ease my sorrows along with some pot if it was legal as I've been in constant tension for days now trying to do relaxing methods and failing every damn time.
Don't think you'd want that unless you're resistant to fire, tbh. I mean, myself I wouldn't want a "the geldables have melted away" prompt appearing.

True, or maybe I'd go with liquid since it's meant to be a water dragon anyway. Since I derped and decided earth dragons should have the corrosive breath, maybe I'd make that a powder.

Also, I'm unsure how to implement spells. I guess I could go for using them as secrets. Secrets can know be retained and spread a bit better, right? Thing is, if I make secrets not include tower-building and zombies (without seems to ensure hostility), how far will spells propagate on their own?

Yeah, I go with regular spells learnable from slabs and such.
I'm not sure about the latter, but I'm fairly sure the people with the knowledge of those secrets will write books and such. I've had paladins and blessed warriors write books, so I'm fairly sure that they would spread atleast a bit - I alternatively included the ability to get their interactions from drinking their blood, which doesn't matter except for player characters, but it's still something.

EDIT:Lovely.

Hmm. Do werebeast bites occur during worldgen? I'm thinking maybe I could devise alternative methods of adding the propagation of magic.

best way to learn modded interactions so far is to kick over statues and piss off gods. you don't even need reading skill to gain stuff from that and it's random for every statue you topple.
if the interaction doesn't have any restrictions like not being a vampire or werebeast or cursed you can fill up on powers easily.
