well I know a way to move faster than water freezing a way that's faster than 9.900 speed.

-snip-

Hilariously awesome!

Speaking of magma and fire. I found out that I don't have to mod in anything except add existing interaction thingy to my ischroboar. Still can't get fireball to work as it doesn't do any damage but dragonfire I did got to work. Hmm.. wonder how to get fireball function to work so it would burn something on the target.

EDIT: Bleh, not sure how to make fireballs lethal but, meh. I like breathing dragonfire a lot more, love how effective it is to just swipe an area of hostiles with it- MWAHAH! :D -'scuse me. Also I found out that as a super character and being a necromancer makes me impervious to catching curses from toppling statues, went crazy toppling dozens of statues.. nothing. :D *lets out another maniacal laugh* Gods in my DF world.. consider yerselves royally screwed!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4vOfWvsb7o

Uh... this again?

Yep, this again.

So, what did I do?

After some trial and error (saving beforehand) I was able to figure out where I had to approach from to trigger the water blocks to fall, and began building a catchment to catch them.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It took a while, Distracted doesn't matter while building though, and the lag for anything but switching to build mode was awful.

Unfortunately the water was right up against the south edge of my camp, preventing me from building on several tiles there.

So I did the obvious thing.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I made some magma-safe minecarts, fast-travel to a volcano north of me, swim down inside, then find the nearest candy-cane so I can drop the carts without the magma flows eating them.

Stand on a candy ledge, get my needs filled, fill up my backpack with magma, swim back, travel home. Drop minecart loads of magma onto the suitable locations. Did this dozens of times to cast it all. Magma is heavy.

Once I got those holes plugged, I noticed the water was overflowing out of the side and I needed more wood to prevent it, so I went over there to do some logging.

Uh... hmmm.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The red stuff isn't blood btw, it's bitter ooze, the southwest chunk of the map is on an evil mountain that the river runs through, which I assume causes the glitchy teleporting water blocks stuff.

So I've got about 40,000 tiles of water, the bottom ~24,000 are 7/7, the top I've been chucking water from the river in with minecarts to fill it from 4/7 up to 7/7, and then I guess I'm gonna build an aqueduct going north.

i killed a roc  :)

tricked it into an air battle, then aimed for a wing, fell down 18 Z levels

took me 2 attempts, to be fair, a roc chops me in half in 1 hit, so, lots of dodging and shielding

Heh, nah. Maybe much later as my demonic wild boar (wo)man is already something that should resemble an imp from the first game in terms of color (mahogany fur, chocolate skin, yellow eyes, white on the tusks), all that's missing is the fireball ability. For me personally things don't always need to be 100% one thing, if a new thing has a similar nostalgic vibe to it then heck yes.

True, but in game mechanics terms, making something accurate to the original in functionality is a unique challenge. For example, I wonder if the spatter effect can be used to create something close enough to archvile fire... :V

Well that took too long, but I got the top layer filled to 7/7, so I've got 4 levels with 8396 tiles in each full of water. Gonna put a floor over them, then put a higher section over the respawning water block and use it as a pressure coupling.

Ah, well.. everything ever that had to do with challenge has had a very negative effect on me so I don't bother anymore. If it's a challenge, no thanks but if it's something I need then yes and what I need is the fireball be a very damaging thing instead of this current non-damaging one and since it requires to strain my brain too much I just won't bother with it for the time being besides I've already decided on having dragonfire breath attack instead, also for the time being.

So what's the deal with outsiders and claiming sites? I mean I can claim my own built thing right? I just can't retire him/her there? Problem I ran into with my outsider ischrotaur lass was that after retiring her and unretiring her I found out that one of the companion's had take over the place and my character spawned at the bandit camp, what gives? Was it because the Zone 1 needs to be the meeting hall? I for some reason had it set to as a companion's room which is probably my problem right there and I'm tired of thinking and worrying.. so tired in fact that my ischroboar will not have any companions except disposable corpses and gruesome corpse rooms with no zones.

EDIT: *beats the idiot companion who claimed his character's site and kills it* "This place is mine, MINE! Not yours! I'll have to kill you now!"

EDIT2: Rechecked this ordeal and upon unretiring I lose the the ability to have the authority to build in my own site. WHAT!???

Aw. True, it depends on how fun the challenge is. I like giving myself a complex idea and bumbling through attempting to code it up. o3o

And yeah, apparently outsiders can't stake claims. ;w;

I gave my ischroboar a bunch of skills related to fort mode like leadership and military tactics, seems bandits didn't count as un-outsidering for my ischrotaur lass so just incase I added extra skills for my new creature/character. Wonder if getting to be an actual hearthperson and doing a task or two will solve the outsider issue (damn you DFtool for taking too long to update! I need you! >_<) along with the issue of upon unretiring no more building access to my own site.

You'd have to become a hearthperson to be able to stake claims as an outsider IIRC.

Aye, that is true. At least it seems to work as far as I've seen. Just hope nobody takes away my building after I've built it and I have a nasty plan of how am I gonna make my own room/hall inaccessible to other npcs: by making the hallroom an area you have to climb to (or jump to). :D Worth a shot.

EDIT: Just killed my first ever roc. Here's how that went down (plus pun intended). Since the large bird flew 3 levels high while I dealt with a burning wild sow's head in my backpack, just had to drop that (decided to pick a fight with two wild boar packs/groups/whatever to add to my corpse collection, the last group happened to be in my sprinting way so I burned them with my fire and hacked them to death).. anyhow first I tried my dragonfire on the roc but the fire would only go one level up so I had to pick a coin from my backpack and throw it and on the first try the 5 coins I threw at it at once hit its head and fracturing its skull and that was pretty much the end of the beast as it fell down besides me where I tried to hack three times its head off until it went cloven asunder and that was with my mastercraft bismuth bronze drolth-sword. I then dragged the roc's corpse all the way back to the now-dead bandit camp and some dingoes ambushed me, offed all of them and grabbed their corpses too and hauled it all to the location then told the vindicator (Draenei "lord") that the task is done and told a story about the roc's demise.

Decided to take a second task from her and this time it's a giantess but yeah was amusing how easy it was to take down that first roc of mine. Mortals have who knows how much trouble with killing the flying beast and then comes a demonic-looking-beastly-wild-boar-resembling-intelligent-creature and in a few ticks he brutally hacks at it with no fear while burning with rage and hate (yeah fuck you challenge! KILL! MAIM! BURN! YOU!).

which means if you play a modded outsider who just scares everybody you won't be able to become a hearthperson.
just learn barn scorpion men can't chop trees down.

Such a character wouldn't need to. This whole deal with outsiders not able to claim sites is just absolute bullshit, I claim whatever I want, whenever! The will of Khorne will kill Armok if it's not so!!! JK but seriously... >:(

EDIT: Eh, wasn't a death threat just my own metaphor for going complete psycho in DF.

so has anyone wander into a site that's being invaded and thought hey Free Workers for my Camp?
because some how I grab just about everyone, the peasants, the children, even the goblin soldiers who were standing around... didn't think they needed rescuing but I guess everyone is afraid of an elephant woman bandit leader.
also if you have over 25 people chopping down a tree might be hazardous as lil timmy got a bruised lung from a botch dodge attempt from someone dodging a falling log.
has child rescuing been fixed yet?

Do try if you would. They will join your party and shit normally from the fortress, but they kept getting shanked by their family when I brought them home.

As for the falling logs, I had some of my zombies flip out and start trying to hit me when a log bashed them, so, that's a thing.

Also: don't claim a hamlet mead hall with the lord/lady there and walk into the back rooms. Getting spammed by "You are now in control of" announcement boxes every step is awful.

I say this as I rescued some kids from a town that wasn't from a dark fortress. now I wonder if it's possible to build a site and dump all these guys here.
