Yeah, everyone already dances the hopak whether they want to or not.

Now, I have more hamlets to seek out books from. Only annoyance here is that this world has no towns. ;w;

Everyone is willing to dance the hopak. It's natural.

In Soviet Russia, hopak dances you?

EDIT: There is a naked kobold dancer in this mead hall.

EDIT 2: Kobold said the hamlet he lives in comes to a cave to trade. Bullshit. I visited the cave, found nothing, and now ambushed by a hoard of bolds and humans.

EDIT 3: I almost had a heart attack, that's about a dozen crossbowmen. But NONE of them have crossbows. A few of them have instruments instead. A bowman has sling stones and no bow, despite kobolds having bows natively AND despite my having not given them slings last I checked. Only obvious threat is the lone blowgunner with poison darts.

Also? The bowkobold has a book. Even having given them CAN_SPEAK, it seems weird that they could write shit.

Check tombs for books! You can find autobiographies and such in them sometimes, but of course, gotta be careful of the grumpy curse-happy residents.

so learn 2 things that's doable.
you can chain camps made in hell to build a 1 way camp bridge across water.
2 it's alot easier to wait for winter and finish working on that extension to the base

oh and oh god doing this slows the game down to a crawl over how many campsites you made.

I haven't found any sign of tombs in this world either. ;w;

Imush Dirtclods leaves the fortress Torchlash, slow traveling the underground dwarven highway to the fortress Mindfulportal, hunting cave critters along the way to build his attributes and skills.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Imush's dodge/charge preferences are set to stand ground/stand ground as this produces the lowest level of randomness and favors blocking.

Imush, with sneak/ambusher on, is at 0.152 speed at the beginning of this series of encounters. He's slowed by the 35 cave croc meat he gathered up before leaving Torchlash, the various pond grabber organs, a few unworn cloaks, and the +maple crutch+ he's using to train agility, endurance, kinesthetic sense, spatial sense and will power.

The under 0.200 speed is desirable as this allows these slow and harmless critters the opportunity to attack more often. The best defensive gains occur when the steel battle axe becomes lodged in the wounds caused. Instead of directional movement to free the axe, the preferred action is Imush interacting with the axe, wrestling for control. This results in 8-14 unanswered attacks per interaction, 1-2 of which might be grip breaks while the rest are either misses (which advances dodge skill) or blocks (shield skill).

With each fight, beginning with the removal of the charge attack, Imush occupies each opponent with wrestling grabs, repeatedly latching on all 4 available grips, occasionally working in strikes of opportunity ! and re-gripping once his initial grips are broken. This will train wrestler and also clogs up the opponent's attack menu.

The last third of the journey, involves only fatal brawling (mainly punches) and no wrestling. Dodge/charge preferences are set to move around/dodge away to even out the gulf between Shield User and Dodger.

The end gain upon reaching Mindfulportal (totaling 8 cave toads, 4 cave crocs, 9 giant olms, and 1 pond grabber) brings fighter to legendary; shield, armor and wrestling to talented; dodge and striker to skilled, swimmer to proficient; and axe skill to competent. Body attributes all advance to high.

Roughly the main benchmarks for a peasant cavern crawl under perpetual ambush in the last few runs has revolved around shield/armor/wrestling to talented, with all other skill/attribute development as incidental, but much sought after gain. Overall, at this point this seems to be the most well-rounded starting method out of the ones I've tried.

Upon exiting Mindfulportal, Imush runs into an unknown shrine 1 world map tile NW. As the cavern crawl has prepped him well, he has a look and encounters a glass humanoid with a poisonous sting.

Gotta find an autobiography first, usually they'll be "The True Something Soandso" or "On Your Own Journey" type titles.

Note also that you can read a manual which tells you how to write autobiographies or cultural histories or whatever.

Sums up my feelings of how I prefer playing a game. Even in DF I just can't quite accept having a companion(s) and that is even if they had an ordering function so they don't take my kills or go on their own to waste time on wildlife. I wish I could edit a raw or something so the the time it takes to build something is colossally less for my adventurer, wonder if zombie labor would work but then again I'd need to have DFhack to make myself a necromancer as my small history worlds I play in don't generate them.
And for toning down the amount of failed crafting I'll need DFtool to turn crap quality item into a mastercraft as it takes forever to craft like 10+ mastercraft wooden doors or beds. It really started to irritate me that I couldn't set the damn raw file so I'd get a mastercraft each time.

So, yeah. That means Dexios the lion man's adventure I started and left on the thinking sections of my brain can now be considered discontinued. Thought I'd manage to play it but the very idea that my character can get injuries and a limb or two lost and basically play like everyone else when in reality I just can't, sorry. I remembered how many times I got killed as Drog the Kobolth by that demon/clown Gakit. Once I see that "you are deceased" screen while playing as a character I really like I am prone to hatred and rage. Playing like a mortal is not my thing nor is trying to please others with those mortal character stories at this point. I'd be only doing a dis-service to my own well-being and sanity (what's left of it). If I feel like I have a story to tell it's gonna be as a more OP character than Armok himself like Dhorna or Dexios reincarnated as a demonic something man (yeah, everytime I find an interesting animal man race, I need to make a custom super-version of it to play safely).

That's just how I roll at this point.

EDIT: I grew up watching shows like the Iron Man cartoon (that was so long ago that I don't quite remember what was going on but I remember the guy in his suit being almost impervious to pretty much anything) and later on when I saw the first and original Superman movie and its sequeals with Christopher Reeves and seeing later on the actual real-deal action of the Superman in movies such as the one with Brandon Routh and now Superman: The Man of Steel with Henry Cavil. In that regard I'm already spoiled and have this sort of unique god-complex where I yearn to be immortal, invincible and powerful in terms of strength and if ever my body is piereced, rapid regeneration would take hold instantly and repair my body. THAT's ONE of the reasons why I love playing as an unkillable and unstoppable thing in games. Challenge is just not in my nature.

okay I have an idea since we can build walls and constructions this means we can basically store water into tanks.
now I wonder if it's possible to say make obsideon in adventure mode by getting a minecart, load that up with water and dump that repeatedly into a designated reserve then get 1 unit of magma and drop it into the water supply.
and obsideon cast walls and floors for a camp

Your adventurer is adventurously loud?

...yeah, let's go with that. Probably the least fucked up explanation for the title.

EDIT: Wolves ganked the party. Killed them all and made parchment of their hides, no one died. Nako, one of the naked goblin chicks, now has some very classy scars but is still able to stand.

EDIT 2: Figured out where the elves are. Time to see whether they're worth leaving alive.

Here we are in the lovely town of Waspcatch:

Night falls and there isn't much to do as Waspcatch is a dry town run by elves.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
There's nothing to do here but follow (mixture of slow and fast travel) the odor of bug innards and the tracks left by those bipedal horrors.

It's not quite a fair fight as night trolls do have a talented level skill set versus Imush's talented level shield user and proficient level dodge and striker, but that's offset by the adept wrestling and legendary fighter.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Imush was wearing iron high boots, chain leggings, gauntlets, helm. He kept his breastplate in his backpack and wore the copper mail shirt, iron mail shirt, then the pond grabber leather armor. That seemed to work roleplay-wise. Well, maybe not the double mail. The misfortune of the mostly vanilla game is you don't have wonderfully mythical horned dwarf helmets or winged caps. I guess next time. Imush is on the look out for titan shells as I did put in a helm creation reaction for shell. Silly and ineffective, but just very turtle tamer in flavor to have a shell helmet.

Some idle thoughts:
The description selected for this dwarf was not tall or short or broad or skinny or large. Height does seem to affect gaits, though not as much as the proportion of strength to agility.
Imush began at 2.785 sprint @ above average strength, average agility ——> 2.976 @ high strength, high agility ——> 3.030 @ high strength, superior agility

Their capital, with what was surely a badass tavern tree thingy, is sadly a ruin. Also, as soon as I find the closest these things have to authority, I have a wooden figurine to offer them:

EDIT: I never did find an elf to offend. Instead I found a lair full of 4 night trolls. I lost my upper front teeth, the feisty crawling dorf Iton, Sakzul, and the valuable miner Stakud.

So my dorfs name is Tosid Avuznakuth Kacothsholid Gadan Tosid 'warded clutches of honesty' or something is the words in the little quotation marks.
Edited: Fixed the name and such.
He began his adventure as most do, as a demigod.
He started with my standard stats of maxed strength agi and toughness. He was described as being ridiculously ripped and his beard and moustache would make even Gandalf green with envy.

Skills
10 swords
10 fighter
10 shield use
10 armor use
2 swimming
1 reading
1 writing.

And so he ventured forth, with me at the helm of him expecting this dwarf to be zombie fodder like the previous dozen as I threw him at a necro tower in his previous incarnations armor and weapons. (A steel shortsword and a full set of iron armor.)

As Tosid said to a bard who asked him of his younger days:
I was going in full well knowing what to expect, you see for years that tower housed a half dozen necromancers according to the scouts, now the year was 114 and I believe the morning sun was rising to greet me telling me it was the 3rd of granite.

Equipping the dead dwarves armor, Tosid charged the zombie horde that had begun to trickle out of the tower, grabbing up the shield he strapped to his back he lunged at the leading zombie, knocking it to the floor and shoving the tip of his sword into the brain. Breathing a sigh of relief Tosid looked up and slapped a zombified hand away, and then another and another with his shield, after a few moments of onslaught he managed to scramble backward and gain his footing.

Crying out a quick prayer to the God Oel whos domain was warfare Tosid jumped onto the shoulders of a particularly short and stout dwarven zombie and swatted at some heads with the flat of his sword (I read blunt damage killed them faster and figured slapping was funny, I now know its more effective to just slash) making a few of them rather angry.

Seeing the dozens more zombies all piling out the door to this three story tower Tosid entered his martial trance and proceeded to slash, stab and gouge at various faces and heads until he grew weary. He quickly broke combat and walked off, trailing a dozen or so zombies behind. His shield arm was bruised and battered but he was otherwise unharmed physically. Ten minutes later he returned and decapitated a half dozen or so more zombies, sprinted for the top floor, stabbed a necromancer in his eye, grabbed a book and bolted out a window. Only catching a bolt to the back teeth having it get stuck but its fine right?
Tl;dr Tosid beast moded this tower and got some dentistry done.

Edit2: Counting in with 206 notable kills Tosid is still slaying things in the year 116, but seems incredibly old looking what with ridiculous wrinkles and white hair (thank armok for necromancy right?)
