Well, unfortunately after retiring the fort, nothing much seemed to have happened at my little vacation "resort".
I hope it's only just bad luck and it's not that player-created sites arent yet included in all those world update things.

Anyone saw his self made site getting things happening after you have retired your adventurer and run a time-skipping fortress for a couple of year ?

Could it have anything to do with the site being located in the mountains? Can NPC travel there? (Assuming it's actually in the mountains, with the volcano and whatnot.)

Not that it's been all that long since he set the place up.
also most folks who do wander near these sites are folks who want you dead, don't think non hostile folks wander aimlessly into what basically is a bandit camp.
shame that you need to be not an outsider to set up a site to be retire, makes playing mods where you can't retire in a site due to being a wild beast even more painful when you can build a hut.

@Repseki - I don't think it's that, since that one orc lasher wandered up to it - volcanos don't seem to count as mountains - first thing I tried this update was making a hut up in the mountains and the game wouldn't let me do it until I came down.

@Rumrusher - I think this might be the case too - I THINK that the orc lasher is a bandit, as my character said "I have nothing for you" when greeting them. They didn't try to kill me, though, for whatever reason - I'll have to look them up in legends.

rhinomen are OP. Just charged my way through an entire dark fortress - at 0.303 speed after not noticing I fell over. I was facing trolls, goblins and beak dogs.
This reminds me, at some point in the indeterminate past i decided to find out what the inside of the goblin dark pits were like with a modded bronze colossus adventurer. If i had known i wouldn't have ventured within the depths.

I charged through piles upon piles of troll farmers and carpenters, knocking them down holes and punching their heads into mush while i trudged through a vicious storm of lag. Eventually after what i think was a full hour spent in the same room killing nameless trolls, i moved to the next room. It was a dead end void of anything interesting, i returned to the room before, and to my horror, i found all the hundreds of trolls i killed were completely replenished.

It is terrifying.

Huh. That sucks but the good thing is from what I know of being an outsider is that once you're a hearthperson you can claim sites for yourself but not before. No doubt about it being a very silly thing, it's like a caveman having to become the worshipper of fire to claim a land or something, as if he wasn't able to do that with his pure strength and a club and of course folk/mob following him.

And yeah, it seems that wild boar men are indeed slightly bigger. Still enough that they can wear human-sized armor though. And generally if they're close enough in size to be armor compatible, then the size difference isn't enough to give me that edge I was looking for. XP

Heh, yeah. I can relate to the confusion in more ways than one. I thought originally that dingo men were larger than humans until dwelling/digging deeper into the DF-modding hole (could be a tunnel but I seem to have cave-adapted and by the looks of it I didn't make any stairs or ladders, or torches for that matter, just hand me some blood water and a new pickaxe).

-snip-

It is terrifying.

It was inevitable. o_o

Anyhow, I created my spartan character, ended up picking a lion man demigod but with only few downsides for the first time ever as he doesn't have super empathy and super social awareness along with good weapon skills like bow and crossbow but is at an extreme as a sword, spear, shield, armor (for helmet, gauntlets and high boots) and other sorts of fighter along with storytelling. Now I just need to decide how am I gonna continue with this character besides reaction spawning gear I need/gear he should have spawned with (obviously mastercraft bronze stuff). Kinda amusing that he spawned with no pants or a lointcloth in a civ as a peacekeeper (Draenei hearthperson) which left me wondering "now why would that be the case?". Agh, the lewd imagery in my mind!

Apparently you cannot sleep in the mountains anymore. You cant even build a fire in the mountains either.

Yeah, I noticed that too, don't understand why.

Anyway, I decided to try and travel through a glacier in order to get to a forest biome that's present up north with no sites or anything.

Bad idea. On the way, my ice troll companion, Kottu Actmorals, was disemboweled by an arachnatid (creep from Warcraft 3 - contrary to the name, they're more scorpion-like than spider-like) - although she survived, eventually she was encased in a wall of ice when two of them raised in front and behind my group. My own arm was broken by a random kvaldir (undead, sea-dwelling vrykul who dissipate into mist on death - they're not supposed to appear in glaciers but I guess glaciers count as a type of ocean? One of their biomes is set as ANY_OCEAN so maybe that has to do with it) and now it's only me, a dark troll by the name of Manak Frostshaken, and Maceti Crafteagle, an osh-tekk swordsman, left. Still have supplies left, but I don't know if they're enough to last us to the forest up north.

EDIT: Nevermind, I've been encased in ice by another wall. RIP.

payback time, trained for a bit near a river, slaying giant beasts.

felt comfortable enough to go back to the fortress and kill the hammer dwarf.

he was waiting near the market, as if he knew id came back,
my initial charge was dodged to the side of me, followed by a hard counter, the taste of his silver warhammer soon changed into the taste of the granite wall. i blacked out for a moment, but woke up just in time to dodge his next attack, had it hit i would have died for sure.

dwarf vs eagle man

i knew i had to dodge everything now, bruises everywhere, one hit makes me black out. that hammer needs to go!
he was quite fast, and the fact that backup arived wasn't helping, bolts were shot, i dodged.
after a while i finally could attack the hammerdwarf, he was recovering from his last strike.
i charge stabbed him in his right upper arm with my iron short sword, it went trough the armor and severed the motor nerves.

after that it was pretty much clean up time, bounced between enemies, killed 30 ish dwarfs in the end

good fight :)

A scorpion is an arachnid.

True, but anything with "arach" in it would make most people probably think of a spider than a scorpion, and since not everyone is familiar with WC3 I preferred to clarify.

Blame the ancient Greek language I guess. :V

Heh, speaking of Greek language. The only Spartan name that stood out the most for me was Dexios, rhymes with Stelios and Dilios and has this vibe from the Roman names such as Decius, Decimus and Maximus. Which brings me to my lion man male (current DF logic) character: Dexios Shieldrage the Battle-Lion of Fury.

Obviously the character's background revolves around one big battle where he went into primal rage over something and ended up throwing his spear and scimitar (read movie 300's take on Kopis) into foes and then ended up using his incredible strength, agility and endurance and general all-around battle-prowess with his previous bronze shield which he went completely feral with, bashing in heads, breaking bones and cracking pretty much everything hostile. Bit shame you can't add backstory like that to Hero and Demigod characters ingame but, meh. He's average in size with incredible muscles, tan fur color and peach skin color and yellow eyes.

Enough with the backstory and onwards to "seeking a glorious death" I guess, there might be just one out there that's up to the task and this lurking kobold I kicked its head in with one of my paws is only a joke at best, seems like my current character's task is clear: Clear out the Draenei fort's catacombs from lurking vermin then tell about it to some npcs and then get a peacekeeper/hearthperson task and probably round up some drunks from somewhere (I just burst out laughing just thinking about it).

Oh right the equipment on my character: Rope reed backpack, waterskin, loincloth, cloak, sandals, bismuth bronze helm, shield, scimitar, spear and all of them mastercrafts by Dexios. Since his natural color is of lighter hues this bismuth bronze should be looking glorious on him. Need to figure out how am I gonna get gauntlets down the line as a lion man is much larger from the Draenei, gauntlets and high boots are the only thing missing but first I wanna see how he'll perform without them.

By the way the dead kobolds name, yikes, good luck trying to say it: "Shlufulujurbis"

Downloaded DF 43.02, started up a dwarf peasant with the intent of going out into the wilderness and trying to live on my own as a carpenter hermit. RNG gave me a dwarf named Sodel NoiselessEarth who worships Gorroth the Incinerated Smoke, the dwarven god of chaos.

Sodel straps his copper shield and silver battle axe to his back before setting off into the Fenced Forests, leaving his home hamlet of Glaciersyrup. It's raining and there is a cool breeze from the east. Sodel stops in the middle of the Fenced Forests by a brook. All around him are trees. He makes a promise to cut down all the trees of the Fenced Forests in order to spite the elves and honor his god Gorroth. Deforestation is an act of chaos, right?

Sodel's first act as a hermit carpenter and lumberjack is to bang two diorite rocks together until one is sharper than the other. After carving a sharpened diorite rock, he pulls down a branch from a nearby walnut tree. Walnuts can be tasty, maybe he won't cut down the walnut trees. With stick and sharp rock in hand, he uses his dwarven ingenuity and carves the walnut wood branch into a helve with his sharpened diorite rock, then inserts the sharpened diorite into the end of the helve. He has invented a stone axe.

Yeah, this was completely redundant because he already had a silver battleaxe. But a lumberjack hermit can never have too many axes, right?

With an axe made, now he could go about building a carpenter workshop and a shack surrounding it, using the logs from the trees he cut down.

He was caught working during the night by bogeymen. Sodel tried to run back to the hamlet, but didn't get far before becoming too tired to outrun the bogeys. He got mobbed and torn apart. All that remains of his brief adventure are a wooden carpetner's workshop and a small wall by the side of a brook in the middle of the deep woods.

...I'm reminded why I normally make worlds without bogeymen now.

so I take it everyone's first time into 43.xx is going to be rushing head first into Building then FORGETTING all about the times it takes to build and not set up a proper anti-bogeyman roof system.

for the since bogeymen are the 1% common deaths in adventure mode (that small due to Most players take them out of the game) I added the a simple building that keeps most invaders from Murdering you once you already got the bogey proof roof building set up. all it takes is 2 logs for no worries from bogeymen, about  7 logs for building the fortification.
like those fortifications will save you from the other night creature/goblins/wildanimals from just running up and maul you while you're under the roof.
