Well i just spent some time trying to convince a human how to appreciate artful speech, and i accidentally hit acquiesce.
Now my moose man poet has been turned to the side of the artless chumps, and i have to go out on a journey to find someone who can teach moosey the error of his ways.

Talk to someone who is asleep and you can fix that back to how you had it.

That is weirdly specific information to have, thank you though.

I wonder how good a performer you have to be to ask a cut of the til. Free drinks isn't enough -- when you got a good show going on, it's concessions that are making the killing. You could improve your returns by adjusting your sets and pieces to influence the pace of drinking.

While testing a modded civ I've been working on, I started up an adventurer.

Immediately, the keep that I started in was in the midst of a massive No Quarters fight consisting entirely of various poets. Once I'd helped strike them all down, I wandered off to find a tavern in a nearby city. While there I tried to argue the worthlessness of knowledge, but nobody really wanted to argue with me and I was forced to eventually drop the subject when -- despite there being no towers or evil biomes around, let alone the fact that we were far from any tundra, taiga or glacier -- a zombie polar bear attacked the first guy to try to walk out of the tavern.
Rather than assist in the fight, I stood a little ways down the street watching the locals get slaughtered while the 30 or so local cats swarmed around me, rubbing their heads against me and licking me.
Once the last citizen fell I retired rather than bother with beating down the crippled zombie bear.

You broke dwarf fortress, congratulations. You are no a fully-fledged dorf.

When the adventurer is told there is no more need for them, when there are no more targets to kill, why do they act surprised when our "hero" turns towards them and says "No"?

To be honest, the entire thing felt pretty vanilla to me.

funny thing about spiders are their 2000 times smaller than a fluffly wambler

here's a adult dwarf size
[BODY_SIZE:12:0:60000]
here's the body size of a wambler
[BODY_SIZE:0:0:2000]
half of that is what bogeymen(1000)
here's one for the size raws jumping/brown recluse spider people use
[BODY_SIZE:0:0:1]
your adventurer are literally microscopic
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Hang on, what?

Spiders are 1 cm3, that's true, but any animal people race gets this:
Code: (from c_variation_default.txt, the ANIMAL_PERSON creature variation) [Select]
[CV_NEW_TAG:SELECT_CASTE:ALL]
[CV_NEW_TAG:GRAVITATE_BODY_SIZE:70000]
That'd make spider people
( 70000 + 1 ) / 2 = 35000.5 cm3 in size, which they actually are.
Still almost half the size of a dwarf, or a human, but NOT as the same size as a spider.

I was wondering why my steel armor weighted so much and why that allegdly tiny spider was able to wield a steel spear, an iron whip, a large copper dagger and three wooden shield without being extremly slow due to being over encumbered crushed.

Doesn't really seem to bother him that much to carry around half a dragon in meat as well as a barrel (half) full of fisher berry wine which I just took from a tavern without anyone seeming to really care...

Would've been funny if it really were that small though!

hmm that does explain the whole can't hold a pick given the size of a pick at minimum is
[MINIMUM_SIZE:42500]

which is more than their entire body and makes them unable to hold it in fort mode.

edit: so deciding to play an elephant seal man I wandered around the town site and ended up noticing my lords are having a mass panic.
looks like war was declared

this is the first time I saw this quest dialog from this option.

Finally back on track. Two necro towers and a long stretch of savagery are on the way to the next vault. The lairs dotted around the area are mostly filled with giant predators, so I predict one of these places to be the source of the undead giant animals. I can't overlook the lairs close to the city; this is the second time I've seen a dragon lair within 2 tiles of a settlement. I've also seen a whole lot of semi-megas near settlements and major roads. I'm using to going a distance from civilization to find megas, but it appears those lairs have been occupied by all the man-eating animals.
