I avenged my two fallen guys, killing those turtles. Oddly, they stayed near the same pool, just outside my fortresses reach, for a long time, a few months actually. I went on to attack a purgatory wolf with an inordinate amount of kills. For those of you who don't know, a purgatory wolf is a wolf the size of a rhino, with all his claws, teeth, and bones being iron. I took many, many slashes at it's head with my iron two hand sword, along with my bronze and iron armed pike, sword, and axemen alongside me. We couldn't do anything but chip his bones. He eventually had cut down all but me, and even I'd sustained many cuts and was vomiting everywhere. I lost my sword hand, so I grabbed my steel meat chopper from my bag. It was my only other weapon, and my sword was behind the purgatory wolf. I took two swings and decapitated the purgatory wolf. Well, that's done. So I gathered up all the coins from my dead companions, ate some purgatory wolf meat and took it's skin. This stuff is expensive, so I'll drop it off at a stockpile in my old fort and unretire it. As soon as I left the layer, however, dwarves were around me. Mostly drunks and a few soldiers. They told me that a few hours ago, a goblin civilization had attacked my old fort. I recruited a couple of the passing soldiers, including a spearman carrying my artifact spear... He's not leaving with that thing. Then, I charged at the fortress. I found many goblins swarming it, oddly, half villagers. The baron was gone, I guess he left with the refugees. I began cutting into the swarm, hacking off heads with the meat chopper. It was a very good weapon, but not quite enough. One by one, my companions started to be picked off, except the one with the burning steel artifact spear. I picked up the artifact steel shortsword from the smithies, and continued my assault downwards into the lower halls. Once I'd killed a few more goblins, they started running up the stairs and out of the fort. I chased down as many as I could. I turned to my artifact speardwarf, and cut his head off. He wasn't leaving with that spear. I chose another volcano, not too far away, and within walking distance of a dark pit and a human city. This place will do for my next fort. I laid everything in my inventory on the side of the volcano, not too tall, and then threw myself off a cliff and onto the ground, exploding on impact. I'd been trying to fall into the volcano, but I misjudged. My next fort will also be my own tomb, and will start off with some nice weapons, as well as a suit of large iron armour to melt down.
