I climbed into a tree and tried to jump across a canyon 5 z-levels deep.  It didn't quite work out:

EDIT:  Also, how the HFS did I slam into myself?

While struggling to survive alone in the untamed wilderness as a naked spear-welding human outsider on water and berries. I managed to slay a giant lion and repeatedly stabbing it in the head few times before striking it down. I wandered few days on said diet around the desolate giant-animal-filled wilderness. I once tried to sleep but my sleep was disturbed by a group of dingomen which just stood there and chatted with each other. Bragging about how one of them 'attacked' me, which they didn't do. So I tried to interact them.

I was beaten to be mortally wounded and succumb into suffocation due to failing lungs after attacking one of them. All of my attack were misses so he could effortlessly mangle down my fragile human.

[removed for brevity]
For all "wild" creatures, including animal people, the very act of noticing your adventurer is considered an attack by the game, and thus any witnesses to the event will refer to it as such.

My Human Kisat Dur master was passing through a town when he saw people running around badly injured and terrified. A goblin gang is menacing the town and he's decided to run them all out with martial arts. I caught a spear attack from a goblin and put it in a chokehold. I took the opportunity to interrogate him and had a fun little exchange.

"How's life here?"

"Well, let's see ...we've got the fighting."

"Tell me about the fighting."

"Just now I attacked you."

So, ptb asked about having an army arrive at a site in adventure mode... I was checking catacombs for vampires and such with a couple dorfgirls I recruited, we get to this temple and the first bit of weirdness:

...never actually seen that just... happen when I walk up, odd.

So we head down and make a loop through the tunnels, not very extensive system (we started from the eastern doorway in this next screenshot, and pretty quickly made our way back out from the western doorway) but we did encounter a slightly beat-up peasant running past us with nothing immediately behind him, weird, but hey, probably bandits or he kicked a dog or something, right?

...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Uh... did I miss something, where did those come from?

My dorfgirls dodged into the water and I wasn't able to save them due to micro-managing battles with the undead filing around the room, though once I was able to get to the top of the ramp I made use of the chokepoint to behead/de-hand them until I was able to retrieve the corpses of my buds.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So then I head south towards the keep and end up becoming something of a local hero apparently, this is the first time I've had someone just pop up and declare themselves my ally:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I suppose the fact that I pulled five or six goblin and elf corpses off of them, and that the place looked like this when I got done might have played a part in it:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Still, very interesting experience... but I can't find the necromancer or any sign of a leader at all. Figuring there would probably be some sign of them on the travel map I pop out to check it...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Yup!

For some reason I wasn't ambushed when I bumped into it, and after chasing it around for a bit I got myself loaded right on top of it a couple times but never squarely I guess, since there wasn't anyone there. This time though I'm sure it has to be right next to me, so let's see who we're dealing with:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
...

Uh... shouldn't there be a soldier or something here... wait, the last time I loaded on the asterisk on the other side of town... no, it couldn't be...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
...behold the faces of evil, apparently?

Well, only one thing to do here:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
*loads back to travel map to see if the asterisk returns, it does, drops back out on top of it*
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
O.O

THE HELL?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...screw this town, I'm gonna go find somewhere which is just regular haunted and evil and creepy.

Made an adventurer in a retired fort and had a little walk around.
Killed a few merchant pack animals for the loot and for fun.
Found a well crafted steel pickaxe and a wooden minecart.
Jumped in it and 'U' to move it, got the controls slightly and started driving around, I hit a ramp at speed I went flying out the top and hit the next elevation. Laughed at my miner and set off in the minecart. I started to pick up some intense speed and straight ahead of me was a tree trunk.
Instead of jumping out I pushed towards it then hit it, and blew apart. Amazing, now I just have to aim it at an enemy and jump out of it toward the enemy.

These criminal cities keep handing me my ass. I've just started playing again since v34, so these were new to me. I thought, "This should be easy; I'll just take a field trip, harass some wildlife, take a dip in the rivers, and I'll be ready for battle when I arrive."

Ohno, vampires are coming from every direction. There should be a population of 113 humans there, but all I saw were walking, bloodsucking cave fish, reptiles and amphibians. I had sneaking up enough to get about 3 squares from the front gate, but that's when I ran into ones that ran toward me instead of away from me.

So I began again on the other side of the continent, in a little hamlet just a short hike from a city. And it was only halfway into travel view when a blue asterisk zipped up to me, ambushed, got me in its teeth in one attack then shook me to death in two turns.

This mode isn't for solo adventurers anymore, is it?

My human axeman has been intercepting and massacring goblin patrols for kicks since about an in-game week ago.  I guess they finally decided that she was enough of a threat to bring out the big guns.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You can't tell from the picture, but all of those trolls are armed.  Total enemies:

1 goblin lasher
2 goblin axemen
3 troll crossbowmen
2 troll spearmen
1 troll maceman
1 troll axemen

Has anyone encountered trolls with weapons before?  This is a new experience for me.

I have yet to see a troll at all, actually. I have seen a clown once, but that was the result of extreme bad luck on my very first adventurer with a strangely generated world. Curbstomp happened, and then I made a new adventurer, and a new world to explore.

Sounds like an awesome world to me!

Earlier I kept getting a segfault from an adventurer I stupidly saved in an elf retreat before I went to bed (DAMN ELVES, THIS IS WHY I BURN THEIR FORESTS AND TOSS THEM TO THEIR DEATHS) so I was forced to try out a different world, while running around I got word of a vampire in a nearby town so I headed over there, found out they should be in a house nearby, tracked down a ranger wearing human nail/tooth/bone jewelry and tried to grab their boning knife from them before making my official accusation.

They keep playing the part of "scared normal human" and run from me... really quickly, mind you (as I was an elf it is unusual having a human put any distance between us) and then, well... seems like they forgot two things:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I swear he almost looks embarrassed at this point.

Oh yeah! The elf there (Bearded Dragonfalls the Factional Sneer) started near a hillock with trenches in it, so I head in and find a goblin administrator in charge, as I had previously been wrestling a couple of stoats for skillups I decided to simply tackle her, stand on top of her, then trap all her limbs and begin asking her about troubles. Got quite a bit of the map fleshed out before she finally ran out of new stuff and reverted to "not half an hour ago you attacked me" stuff.

I promptly bit her thumb off and demanded she yield, no luck, broke her hip but she passed out, so removed her hands and one foot then waited an hour to stop bloodloss. She wakes up and takes a swing at me which apparently triggered some long held resentment from the nearby dwarf farmer, because she then runs over and begins wrestling and punching the goblin in the head. I resumed holding the gobbo down and let the farmerdorf take out her frustrations by letting her fists have multiple repeated meetings with the goblin administrator and her head, until the admin finally bled out, asked the farmer a bit about the local ruler, and said goodbye.

These cities are completely without security. I don't even see guards on the walls of the keep. I did see a throng of peasants lynch a ringleader, and they had him on the run but weren't making much progress finishing him off until I intervened to break his leg. The priests in the keep had no guards, but they seemed to kick ass pretty good on their own. Vampires of subterranean races are running the streets, and no one but under-equipped vigilantees are doing anything about it. The marketplace they say 11 hamlets come to trade in is empty, shops are empty, but the warehouse is full. I'm going to have to fire the lord of this place to get decent management in here, if I could find the cowardly bastard.

My climbing is improved enough for parkour, so wall-crawling and roof hopping is the safest way to get across the city, though not yet the quickest.

One zombie is well on it's way to wiping out a city. It pulled off someone's hat and has beaten a mob of 40 adults with knives to death with said hat.

Wow I lowballed it.

In the traditional way, I've always use the spear or the sword to get a bleed out shot to the upper body against the hydra. But this was a hammerdwarf, so I figured he'd just wallop the upper body to get it to suffocate. Then this happened...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Began the fight with these stats and ended it with this gain. So with that in mind, let's look at the hydra raws:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And now at the DF Wiki EXP chart to make sense of the numbers, which is to say the level for hydra is talented.

I've generally gone with the stat minimum for an adventurer versus the hydra as being high strength/agility, competent weapon/fighter, proficient shield/armor/dodge while wearing full armor. This is the same for any peasant, hero or demigod. I hadn't really looked at the raws for hydra all that closely, but it makes quite a bit of sense. You can defend about one level above your own, if you always manually choose single action dodge or block when under attack.

So when you think about this, and realize the dragon, the roc, and the hydra are leveled at talented it comes as no surprise that you can defend with proficient stats shield/armor/dodge.

Hydras don't have [INTELLIGENT] in vanilla, so I guess it's time to gen a new world once again. I had already added [INTELLIGENT][NOPAIN] for minotaurs, rocs and dragons, and various bears, hippos and elephants, yeti and saqsquatch, in this current world.
