Argh, so hard to find the balance between postapocalyptic runaround fun and flat out not being able to figure out where anything is.

You know it's bad when you see if the gorlak has any useful information.
Actually, I gave animals the ability to speak, but they never know anything or have any issues.  Their biggest complaint is that nothing happens, and they dont even know where the rumors they do spread are.

Well, I ran up on one about to ninjakill it (I've taken to running everywhere in stealth mode so I can see the sight cones and thus know which trees to go chuck elves out of, etc) but I rounded the corner and it was like "oh, hello, my name is [TRANS_NAME]" and the oddness kept me from going all ginzu on it, so I just talked with it a bit, but sadly it had no useful information, and I had a cyclops to go kill...

Oh yeah, I also had one of my experimental ultra-low-pop worlds which offered two elf civs and one group which was just a camp, so I grabbed that one and just tossed her a dfhacked candy sword to replace the crap wood one... then I found a hamlet and a gelder who took offense to my declaring that the site belonged to me and tried to fight back...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Honestly I'm amazed they lived long enough for it to finally happen, I was hacking and slashing away down there for a while...

I've never gotten a gelding strike, maybe I should just wail away on some goblin wrestlers with a copper knife for a while.

One of my adventurers got attacked so long by a crossbowman (who eventually killed him) that they went from Crossbowman to Wrestler.
Still, they sustained massive damage.

Oh yeah? One time, on a husk character, I was attacked for so long that a bowman turned into a swordsmaster.

One time on one of my ultra-low population world experiments the northwest corner of the map was left alone so long... that uh... I don't even know how to explain this:

About half of the shrines were full of little deathmatch battles between all sorts of titans. I ended up dragging around the pieces I was able to reanimate, though I never got my hands on an intact firebreather (just a head) or web shooter (just the body >.<), but I don't think they keep doing that stuff when reanimated anyways, since they just zerg rushed anything in sight.

That world was mostly cleared out, so I tried out a couple more and got one that offered me fortress mode, goblin adventurers from either one of the two intact gob civs, or the usual human outsider.

Not sure why, but I really enjoy playing as a gob, you get the not needing to worry about eating/drinking benefits from being a necro (or only needing blood as a vamp) without the uber stats/temptation to form a horde of shambling abominations.

I tend to get bored just keeping up with the needs of a new adventurer and either go looking for that which men should not possess or start playing with dfhack or the raws.

This guy though, the only thing I did with dfhack was making a set of artifact steel and a platinum mace with a quicky reclaim group of dorfs donating their forced moods after some brainwashing, the rest was all done with his own green hands.

That's him getting ready to chip away at another hydra, the first one I cheezed to death by standing up on top to the south of the lair entrance, forcing her to swing at me from an awkward angle while I dodged side to side doing quick bash+manual moving so she couldn't commit to a solid "wrestle+murderspam" set like she did the couple of times I had to go back to an earlier save (shortly after I had picked up the armor/mace actually >.<, yes I savescummed there because I had a grudge at that point) and just kept at it.

I started before Samurai Jack came on, and I finished after it was over, so close to an hour of bashing her about the heads and lungs and so forth, went from something like 400/1100 to 400/1600 I think? Currently:

Oh yeah, the fort I used for the artifact gear?

It was destroyed by a forgotten beast.
That same beast is depicted on the mace.
The depiction on the mace is of it killing a dorf 192 years ago.
That dorf was killed shortly before the fort fell, in fact.
That beast, after a long circle-strafing battle, was the first kill with that mace.

Awesome.

I strangled a ranger to death, and a farmer saw. I went to the local castle thing, and the lady spat on me for being a murderer and a killer.
I bypassed the greeting and asked to become a hearth person.
I was accepted.

So my marksdwarf is out trying to kill a mountain titan and it turns out this particular titan is a giant eyeless tick with a webbing attack. I proceed to pummel him with about forty sharpened rocks, at the end of which he has all his legs broken, and chips in just about every part of his body. I shoot him with ten of my extremely valuable (because almost impossible to get more) bolts. Three hit, and do bugger all.

He won't bleed, I can't sneak up on him because he's eyeless, so he can "see" 360, and I don't think throwing rocks at him is going to do much more than it already has. I can't charge him, because he has webs. Ditto for the use of companions. He's standing on silt, so I can't set the forest on fire and burn him. Cumulative damage doesn't seem to work. And I'm not the kind of guy who charges in howling just so my death announcement looks cool.

Somewhere, Armok is laughing at me.

So, anybody have any ideas? Is there a way I can get companions to flank charge him so we can get at least a couple of hits in? Is there something I can do, preferably survivable, to put a real dent in that damn chitin? He's a thorn in my civ's side, and when I start a Fortress Mode on this map, I'd prefer he isn't around to make trouble for me.

Does it not feel pain? Knock it out then proceed to sever brain-box from body.

Unfortunately, there's only one way to deal with such a Titan: keep doing a ton of blunt damage. Eventually, you'll transfer enough damage to vital organs or cause it to lose all structural stability and fall to pieces. I'd recomend to keep throwing rocks at the thing, since that's about the only safe way to do it. Unsharpened rocks might do better by causing more blunt damage, but I'm not sure.

Took down another night creature. Lost another companion. Still alive. Lost a good bit of blood from a bite to the neck, but otherwise I'm fine.

I killed a pikemaster by impaling him with his own pike.

Protip: if you happen to be playing a goblin adventurer and happen to start out in a fortress near others and you happen to head back to check in after becoming all legendary and grizzled, before you rush into the wrong place, accidentally murder several goblins, and confuse the holy hell out of yourself... you can usually figure out which site you came from by checking the first few "summarize a conflict" options.

Rock number 219 finally killed the titan.

That was a very long fight.
