My lasher drowned today.

When Adil started his adventures he recruited two humans a lasher and a spearman. The spearman died when a pack of dingoes attacked one night but my lasher and I survived.
By that point I had gathered enough reputation that I could recruit three additional companions and attack a bandit camp.
Only I and my lasher survived but I found enough armor pieces to fully equip him in iron and bronze.
Afterwards I recruited another group of warriors and started on my long trip across the continent.
On the way one by one my party dwindled when giant predators attacked or they just left when things got tough but I was not worried because I still had my lasher with me.
When crossing rivers he would patiently wait at the rivers edge while I swam across it and fast traveled us away from it.
And today when swimming in a river I was attacked by a crocodile and my lasher immediately jumped into the river to help me despite the fact that he couldn't swim.
When I saw him floundering in the water I quickly killed the crocodile and ran from the river to fast travel away.
But I wasn't fast enough.

My lasher drowned.  :'(

had survived ambushes, one of them from dingo people. have had several companions but i usually loose them at the rivers. tried to get deep into a dark fortress but the lag was too much. so far i get along with bronze armor, shield and a battleaxe. for now the highest skill is legendary tracker.

Hmmm, made a second save until I figure out how to make the demon stick around, retired McLegendary in his fort, his icon changed to that of the executioner (I think I had swapped the graphics to use that for champions) since another dorf became duke while he was out killing nearly a thousand assorted humans, elves, goblins, trolls, dragons, night creatures, titans, and over a hundred bogeymen.

Made another dorf who I was able to start in the fort as well (though due to the uh... magma, I had to find a pick from one of the wagons that kept spawning in the area and make a back door with advfort >.>) and spent too long grabbing assorted armor before I remembered that I had a stockpile with all of the extra stuff left over after I had equipped the military.

After grabbing exceptional steel (and a masterwork helm/breastplate/mail shirt) I grabbed a steel hammer and sword and pick to replace the ones I had started with or scavenged from the area, and went to talk to McLegendary.

I found him hanging around sitting on top of a coffin in the main bedroom area, chatted with him, asked him about the demon he had brought home ("He is master."), asked him about himself ("I am champion."), joined his militia and was tasked with starting some "unofficial trouble" for gobs in a dark pit to the southwest.

After sneaking around and beheading some I actually had real battles on my hand when I finally found a group of more than 1 warrior, because unlike McLegendary this guy was just a demigod (JUST A DEMIGOD) and not a god of smashed skulls, beheaded corpses, and slaughter.

I killed all I could find and headed home after gaining a title, but almost lost it all due to my habitual lack of concern about bogeymen... I killed one, but it took some fighting, and the rest began inflicting bruises, then one bit my back teeth out (yuck) and I said screw it and bolted, barely made it to a nearby hamlet and curled up in a corner to heal. Gotta be more careful about traveling at night now that I'm not a double or triple legendary skilled dorf in artifact armor I guess.

Still, Urist Lovelydoor the Throne of Hide returned home and everyone was quite happy to see me, though they were less than thrilled about the goblin heads, so I just used them for throwing skillups outside on a water buffalo that had some waterskins I wanted...

Went out alone with a Human Spearman looking for a fight, and boy did I find it!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I went to some large area called a dark pit, and found some goblin towers and a big cave of trolls. Stabbing ensued.
sadly my rampage lasted only a day or two, for when i was done with them, I was caught outside at night -_-.
Here's my physical condition after the buttf***ing the boogeymen gave me

Still one of my highest killcounts :D

I'm currently a dwarven necromancer with 121 zombies in year 17. I'm the baron of a dwarf fortress, and the leader of two human hamlets. I've got 33 notable kills. In one of my hamets, there is an insurrection, so I'm currently massacaring the citizens:

I found a dwarf walking around a fortress with a slab, wrestled it away from him and read it. Then, I dropped it.
That necromancer was killed, so this one found the slab, killed everyone in that fortress, and went to a human mead hall, and stored the slab there.

"Oh hey, a fortress, neat!"

*fast travel to it*

"Oh crap, this looks bad."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Looks can be deceiving, I suppose.

In the fort before I found the tome (and dropped it off for a new adventurer, the one in the above image, who most recently killed a bronze colossus after bashing a foot off, getting it to topple over, and curbstomping it forever while the rest of my army of dorfs, goblins, and elves arrived to continue the curbstomp) the first room with other dorfs I found was uh...

You can't see it, but there are three more barons/baronesses in that room alone, another room had two or three more, and the next room over to the southwest had the freaking queen! No wonder the furniture layout is so stupid.

Did see that the previous world I stole a dorf from to adventure in had a spot that I wish I had found at first:

Three waterfalls meeting in a single hourglass shaped canyon that drains from the other corner, awesome.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
1) bandit camps and wildlife are easy targets.  bandits often are not immedietely hostile unless there is a large discrepency of power.  wildlife comes in all shapes and sizes to suit your needs.  sneak around, but stay near town, or the bogeyman will get you.
2) quests are broken, and many cannot be 'completed' via npc recognition.  They just dont yet have the responses to the new combat, worldgen, and emotion system.
but, you can kill beasts, slay bandits, rescue children frm goblins, start trouble like a thug, track down armies and join them to attack, defend the cities armies attack, or make your own quests.  Maybe become a werewolf necromamcer husk, or find a vault, or do research and kill a bloodline.
3) no magic exists in game, aside from necromancy.  'Yet'.  Better qualtity items perform better.
4) there are modifications that can.  Look for the mods.
5) food can be too hot or cold to eat, depending on the enviornment.  Campfires can be (I)nteracted with.  Select your food or drink from that menu, and then heat it over the fire.  If its too hot out, go inside smewhere and wait for it to cool off some.
6) luck.  Long worlds tend to have many destroyed and abandoned places, so the odds of you spawning in a public building increase.

If you by any sane idea decide to play out the life of a fortress guard, better hire/recruit lots of marksmen and other guys if you can't get Marksmen/crossbowmen for you might be attacked by some hard hitting enemies.

I am apparently a human in a goblin settlement. Huh.

Wait, it's a camp. Possibly besieging this settlement. I used to have the option on talking to him as one of his lieutenants, but now all I can do is talk about hostilities or brag.

That would imply hostilities are present between you two as individuals or your group entities.  Brag about your violent actions and it will let you commence conversation normally after that.  Although watch their movement.  The might simply walk up to you casually and attack.
