Raided a fort. Time to melt all the things.

I thought talking to a dwarven child and hearing "Life is, in a word, fortresses." was funny..

BUT THIS:

PRAISE IT!

I took my adventurer to the doctor's officelocal werelizard lair and let her bite me in the arm, in the hopes that my one-armedness would be cured through were-lizardism. Unfortunately, it's gnawing on my other arm caused loss of function in that arm as well. After waiting a full in game month for the next full moon, nothing whatsoever happened, and my adventurer was still armless. I retired her for the moment, being that she has no experience with unarmed combat and apparently didn't contract the werebeast syndrome. For all I know the next werebeast could chew her face off.
Did it break the skin with the initial bite? I had an adventurer bitten by a werecamel that did significant damage by shaking but only bruised the skin with the actual bite and he never turned either.

So I was looking for a vampire, scouring the sewers for the low filth when, out of boredom, I decide to head to one of the fortress-y thingies with crossbow towers and stuff.

The law-giver insulted my skills, saying I wasn't skilled enough for what services he required.
So I promptly accused him of being a night-creature.

He was my filthy vampire quest target all along.

I just chopped a mummy's hand off with hampster remains.

Died valiantly in battle.

I always accuse civ leaders of being vampires when I meet them because why not.

Just finished off a vampire with sixteen thousand, eight hundred something kills. Both his arms were severed in the same turn... I spent at least 10 minutes pressing enter.

I am currently leading a small mercenary band on an appearent demonhunt. Killed 3 were-creatures myself, and my maceman companion "Mauler" stoved in the head of the fourth after I sliced his hands off and "Longshot," the group's ranger sent bolts into its hip and thigh bones.

Group consists of
Crassus Sprungsilver (last name earned, title to follow hopefully): Fitting, as I fight with a silver longsword and my first attack was an ambush on the target. Leader and Mercanary swordsman.

"Mauler" Stylebeasts: Mercanary Maceman and professional vomit inducer.
"Longshot" Racegift: Group ranged support; Mercanary Ranger
"Amazon" Yearold: Mercenary Swordswoman
"Skewer" Mopflame: Mercenary Spearwoman

I call my little band "The Oaken Bulwark" after an old DF2010 fort. I expect our deaths will be hideous.

So I found a vampire, killed him with one stab, recruited some guys and went for an adventure
After roaming around for a while I stumbled upon a weird building which was supposed to have a necromancer in it and the second I entered all my companions were ripped in pieces by the zombies inside.Luckily they seemed to ignore me.
So after exploring the building (only one floor a couple of traps) I couldnt find any sign of a necromancer, but when I was leaving one of my companions (who had a lot of missing limbs) revived as a mummy for no apparent reason. He just eagerly joined me as if he had not noticed that he have died. Upon entering a nearby human fortress we were attacked by the soldiers inside but they were quickly torn apart by my mummy friend
My next few in game days were spent by roaming around and killing everyone I see. After a few days I was shot by a crossbowman and died

The end

My vampire couldn't recruit mummies. They just went... "Uh... I'd rather not."

Then, going into sneak mode would give me a bunch of strikes even with no skill in ambusher. He'd say "MY NAME IS HUMAN MCUSELESS BEEKEEPER. PREPARE TO DIE!" and follow me around for a while raising skellies all the way. Not hitting me or anything, but just following me.

Hi!

Actually, I wanted to switch back to fortress mode, however, I had genned a world I found so beautiful, I wanted to see if I could use it for adventure mode - and now I am testing out a different world (the first one was nice geographically, but the human town where I had hoped to get nice weapons/armor thanks to the proximity of dwarves was rather broken with no room for shops anymore and the markets full of goods - and the merchants together with everyone else huddled in the keep). Anyhow, this means, I am currently doing adventurer mode after all :)

Thus far, the world is looking good. My first adventurer started not too far away from one of the human towns near the dwarven civ. On the road, I did a little hunting for meat and practice, and the town had equipment of silver, iron, and copper... no bronze? So, I head of to the next town, about two days away... I nearly made it, but suddenly, I develop a light fever - no mist and only a bit of vile filth raining from the sky. Ah, and there is this group of beak dogs heading for me through the snow at full speed ...

My second adventurer was closer to the elven civs (the human civ stretched over nearly the entire North-South- axis), but why not check out the nearby towns anyway? Hunting is again no big problem, and I am making good progress. Then comes a river in the wild. I move close to it in order to cross it - it see a bunch of green 'A's in it. I run away, but all the goodies from the hunting weigh me down too much, and alligators are surprisingly fast in DF, even on land....

My third adventurer was in the same general vicinity as the second one, but she actually reached that town. With things looking good, I figure I could do a little swimming practice before heading out to hunt. Unfortunately, I forgot that there are bridges over rivers in towns and what effect they have on adventurers ...

My fourth and current adventurer has started in the same vicinity as the first one, namely close to the dwarves. I have reached that first town and found the skins the first adventurer sold to the weapon smith still lying on the floor and available for purchase. I had to do some trading there because this adventurer started with a copper two-handed sword, but I botched this, wasting good money getting my -copper short sword- . I have found a group of elks near town, slain one and sold its skin and dusk is getting closer on the first day of this adventurer. While the worm tendril grass and eyeballs are quite nice, I think I will stay here for a moment and hunt a bit more (and maybe get some notable kills!) before going to that second city my first adventurer sought in vain.

That looks like a titan's shrine to me too.  Even better.

Of course it could be a temple, but that would be boring.

Hi!

Oookay. I recall people mentioning that the AI prefers head hits unless others are easier. So, I thought that copper cap (the only thing I could afford armorwise) would be a good investment. Unfortunately, that cap was never put to the test:
Quote
The Elk charges at You!
The Elk misses You!
The Elk collides with You!
You are knocked over and tumble backward!
The Elk strikes at You but the shot is blocked!
You counterstrike!
You slash The Elk in the upper body with your -copper short sword-, tearing apart the fat!
The Elk bites You in the left foot, tearing the muscle through the brown recluse spider silk sandal!
Many nerves have been severed!
The Elk latches on firmly!
You lose hold of the brown recluse spider silk sandal.
You lose hold of the brown recluse spider silk sock.
The Elk shakes You around by the left foot and the severed part sails off in an arc!
The left foot is ripped away and remains in The Elk's grip!

Needless to say, that this combat continued only a few more rounds...

I guess, once I am done, my adventurers can get notable kills without meeting any intelligent foe (^_^;;

Yours,
