Hi!
Actually, I wanted to switch back to fortress mode, however, I had genned a world I found so beautiful, I wanted to see if I could use it for adventure mode - and now I am testing out a different world (the first one was nice geographically, but the human town where I had hoped to get nice weapons/armor thanks to the proximity of dwarves was rather broken with no room for shops anymore and the markets full of goods - and the merchants together with everyone else huddled in the keep). Anyhow, this means, I am currently doing adventurer mode after all :)
Thus far, the world is looking good. My first adventurer started not too far away from one of the human towns near the dwarven civ. On the road, I did a little hunting for meat and practice, and the town had equipment of silver, iron, and copper... no bronze? So, I head of to the next town, about two days away... I nearly made it, but suddenly, I develop a light fever - no mist and only a bit of vile filth raining from the sky. Ah, and there is this group of beak dogs heading for me through the snow at full speed ...
My second adventurer was closer to the elven civs (the human civ stretched over nearly the entire North-South- axis), but why not check out the nearby towns anyway? Hunting is again no big problem, and I am making good progress. Then comes a river in the wild. I move close to it in order to cross it - it see a bunch of green 'A's in it. I run away, but all the goodies from the hunting weigh me down too much, and alligators are surprisingly fast in DF, even on land....
My third adventurer was in the same general vicinity as the second one, but she actually reached that town. With things looking good, I figure I could do a little swimming practice before heading out to hunt. Unfortunately, I forgot that there are bridges over rivers in towns and what effect they have on adventurers ...
My fourth and current adventurer has started in the same vicinity as the first one, namely close to the dwarves. I have reached that first town and found the skins the first adventurer sold to the weapon smith still lying on the floor and available for purchase. I had to do some trading there because this adventurer started with a copper two-handed sword, but I botched this, wasting good money getting my -copper short sword- . I have found a group of elks near town, slain one and sold its skin and dusk is getting closer on the first day of this adventurer. While the worm tendril grass and eyeballs are quite nice, I think I will stay here for a moment and hunt a bit more (and maybe get some notable kills!) before going to that second city my first adventurer sought in vain.
Yours,
Deathworks
