I just got ambushed by goblins while walking through the city. I don't even know any more.

Also, it lags soo badly in cities.

Aaand the ambushers shot me instantly, causing me to pass out instantly, and I'm not geting any combat messages. There are four goblins surrounding my unconscious body now, presumably attacking it, but between the lag and the lack of reports it's impossible to tell what's happening.

Oh, amazing. I got hit in the foot, chipping the bone and causing me to instantly pass out. So much for those points in willpower... ::)

New world, new adventurer. Second time, after the last got gibbed by a black bear while trying to climb a tree. Step into river, which was flowing. The turn I step in, it freezes over. I am winning these last few games, wow.

unconciousness is a real pain.  You cant even tell if youve died until you wake up and I get the sinking suspicion that the reason characters wake up every so often was because you coud spend over 15 minutes knocked out if shenanigans.

Goblin sites at least work, but some older bouts were bad.

One time I was knocked unconcious but not maimed.  The blow was a counterattack on me and the fight raged on out of my LOS.  I was left to occassionally wake up to glimpse the fight betwwen mycompanion and the bandit.

Another, a platypus stung me >.< I just made it out of the before I spent the next 22 hours on the opposite shore as my companion, zonked from the pain and swelling.

---
While on that bent, there was the time I traveled cross continent with ~30 zombies and a cave dragon corpse.  The zombies would push me onto the ground in their attempt to couple my character as she slooowly made her way to the museum.  They were like bees :)  Rotting, overprotective, elf killing bees.

Yeah, I'm sigging that, both for the comedy and for totally feeling your pain after trying to make my way back up out of a fortress I had besieged, while being humped by my hundred plus dorf corpses.

Bumping because I learned an important lesson: it is not safe to meet yourself if you had previously found a necromantic tome and dropped it off for a new adventurer.

I was rampaging across the countryside and found a hillock where I hadn't murderedstopped by to visit with everyone living there yet, I walk into one of the mounds and find my previous adventurer who had retired after dropping off the book and a bloodcaked beating stick for my new guy, he was militia captain, I said hello, he said it was nice to see me again, I asked how he was feeling... and he said:

"Oh I'm doing fineAARGH WHY ARE THERE ZOMBIE HYENAS, ELVES, ELEPHANTS, DORFS, HUMANS, AND A ROC EATING MY FACEHALKJHSDLKFJSDF"... or something along those lines, I didn't screenshot it because I was too busy laughing.

It should be in gamelog.txt.

so deciding to start moving masterworks into the new version of DF... 40.19 I swap the raws from the old raw folder
Starting to understand what happens when you play a wild animal or beast, it's not them talking but you the player.
though while you act friendly they still treat you as a wild beast and panic... kinda makes being civil hard.

though so far it works well just the gait being off.

I've never seen the hydra attack with grab before, or as usual I just wasn't paying close attention.

If it's prone on the ground, it may be able to grapple you with one of its legs, but other than that I can't think of any other situation where it would be able to grapple in an unmodded game.

Thanks. That actually explains a good deal. I received lower than normal defensive stat gains for the fight due to dropping its speed at the beginning. Usually I just spam body shots/dodge away until it bleeds out.

Bestiality in my nightly murder spree? Oh hell naw!

You kangaroos get the hell out of here, and you, mr. creepy human, screwing animals is far too elf-like for me to not try to geld you until you bleed out... he did end up bleeding out before I got a gelding blow, but still, it's the thought that counts.

Bumping for glory!

Was trying to up the excitement of a world, since I keep getting ones where there is like one dragon, a roc or two, and a couple titans along with a bunch of goblins, none of which are really super satisfying after working your way up to necro-vampire-hammer-lord-land.

Got one that looked really juicy by taking cues from the heroworld parameters listed in the "fun worlds" thread, except I put them in a 65x65 world, ran it up a full 200 years, finally got past the rejections to find I could even start a fortress!

So I check the reclaim options, one lists "metals" and "flux", prospected it and sure enough it has hematite, one of the dorfs was strong, tough, and agile, though they tired fast, and said dorf likes war hammers?

At this point my plan formed, I checked legends on a duplicate save and found there was a tower about 5 or 6 travel squares from the fort, so I decided I would grab the stuff in the fort, plus the stuff I brought on embark and whip up some gear, then suit up and gank the dorf as an adventurer.

I actually had to restart from scratch once, but this worked out for the best (I accidentally tried to travel before making sure the dfusion change adventurer was active, and turned into a roc, then a titan >.<) because it gave me a glimpse or the rest of the world... the roc started out near a hillock, so I was gonna buzz through and scare folks before trying to get back to my stolen dorf... but it's empty.

*checks legends again*

EVERYONE except a pocket of elves is dead, and the only reason I was able to make a fortress was the dorf necro next door... awesome.

*makes it down to the elves and spends forever talking to a well informed bow-elf*

Oh good lord, that's just a snippet of the pages of beasties... and then I go to travel around and see what fun I've got revealed after the dude ran out of info... this is the area right around the elf civ:

Actually I think that was BEFORE he ran out, as I took the SS when I backed out to save (since I had a crash after getting halfway through his infodump >.<) and I know I counted a good 50 lairs/caves in that same area.

So I said screw it, had each of the fortress dorfs donate a forced tailored mood to produce a set of artifact steel (helm, breastplate, greaves, mail shirt, shield), to go with the lead war hammer and one had a thing for cloaks so I finished the set off with a giant toad leather cloak. Then I grabbed the necro tome, and set off making the world a more horrific place, find a site, bludgeon the inhabitant to death, raise the corpse and tell it to wait there, move on to another, and another, and another... so far I've got most of the area around the elf civ and the eastern edge of the map necro'D up, once I finish I'm going to go distribute the artifact pieces in some of the nastier dungeons across the map, and then if I can make a new dorf I'll leave a set of masterwork steel and weaponry for them to use, if not I'll leave it for an elf, and go try to purge the world of my reanimated evils while assembling the skills and gear to help me hopefully survive the worst of the bunch.

Took lots of tries to get it to work before I zeroed out all the required area counts, and then I played around with some other stuff trying to get it to work.

Here's the full thing, it's definitely the coolest world I've generated by far:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

To prepare some I temp-retired McHammer (the original dorf) to test if I can make a dorf adventurer, and yes, you can! Decided to prep Nish Babycudgels a bit, skill her up some on the surrounding stuff, figured I'd check one of the nearby lairs, assuming it would be relatively mild if it was still intact, but I forgot just how much of this map I haven't actually visited, despite having lapped it on McHammer to the point that there is almost nothing left obscured, there's just so many lairs and caves still undiscovered, checked legends on a copy of his save, think it was 169/428 sites discovered? Sheesh.

So yeah, got her a crossbow with a quiver stuffed full of bolts for backup, a mace, a pick, and a battle axe, all cranked out from the steel factory in Boredpaddles, along with her shiny set of masterwork steel--she'll have to earn the artifact stuff the hard way--and set out southwest for a lair I could see right off...

*peeks inside*

*far too many heads look back, and after losing a couple teeth to the barrage of attacks I climbed a tree to escape the hydra*

So I circle around, had to jump the river this time since it melted at sunrise, that will be important later...

I creep back over to the lair, crossbow ready... and nothing happens... I say screw it, and decide to get all industrious with advfort, cut down a tree, and start building fortifications around the entrance, expecting at any moment to be bumrushed by a grumpy hydra... nothing.

I complete the walls of the box and make a ramp to floor it over... still nothing, finally I complete it and start tossing logs and stuff into the entrance... nothing... hmmm, I open a hole in the roof and peek inside, figure it might be asleep and I can put a fire or something to keep it at bay til I can patch the shooting gallery back up... and there is nothing inside.

Confused as hell I start checking the area where I last saw it, near the tree I climbed, and notice corpses of random animals... all on one side of the river, and then I find a bitchy hydra stomping around throwing a hissy fit, I plink it, run, and hop across the river... it stops and stands there, then heads the other way.

...so, glad I brought every bolt I could carry (I think it was three full stacks of 30 in the quiver) my pincusion finally sighs and bleeds out, leaving me at 54/1300 into adept marksdwarf, from from 0/600 novice...

But yeah, tell them to wait and they will stop following you after a certain range like they've got a super long leash, and then they'll beeline back to where you said to wait... in this case I had them waiting at the lairs so they just sit right in the middle of the icons on the travel map, obedient but rotten guard dogstrousities every one!
