Code: [Select]
<Bloax> FINALLY
Code: [Select]
<Bloax> guess what i just did
Code: [Select]
<Bloax> so i managed to get three fags at me at once
<Bloax> namely two macemen and one pikeman
<Bloax> All while shortly after starting said fight I managed to get an extreme pain status.
<Bloax> Which means that what accuracy I might've had just went down the toilet.
<Bloax> And so quite a long time of struggling for survival through exploiting that I can charge them into the ground ensued.
<Bloax> while exploiting the fact that my companion was still crippled but alive at the time to break them up a bit until said companion's chest caved in on his heart
<Bloax> Eventually I managed to get a hit in on the stomach of this pikeman.
<Bloax> Which rendered him much less threatening when he's lying on the floor in his own vomit.
<Bloax> then with loads of flailing around trying to get shots on the weapon arms of the macemen and eventual headshot potshots i actually managed to kill one
<Bloax> and then the other remaining ones tried to escape
<Bloax> but i can't let that happen NOW, can i?

<FKER_Guy> Jesus man
<FKER_Guy> I walked away for 10 minutes and holy shit

<Bloax> and we're off to a great start
<Bloax> and i have no idea
<Bloax> how i survived some 9 or so hits to the head
<Bloax> probably because cudgels suck

<FKER_Guy> Cudgels are literally just maces though
<FKER_Guy> slightly smaller maces

So yeah, it's very nice to be in extreme pain right off the bat in a fight against three enemies, especially when you're almost straight out of the character creation oven. (This is literally the first fight I did.)
Especially so if you're doing an unarmed character, which would only mean that what attacks do hit won't really do much damage.

Though it kind of was an advantage once I actually lost both arms, since not much changed from that loss.
Intense, but now I have to figure out how to perform DWARVEN HEALTHCARE on myself to hack off my now infected right thumb.

Edit: And now after becoming an enemy of some lizardmen civilization due to me killing a companion that couldn't manage to chop my thumb off (when did I become so powerful) and so had to be dealt with.
Hooray, loyalty cascades!

The best news are that I managed to lose my other arm in big brawl against a bunch of lizardmen villagers because I'm an ass like that.
So now I'm looking forward to the quest for lycanthropy.. Fortunately this is Fear the Night with some extras, so that's guaranteed to be fun.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Quite the looker ain't he.

If anyone's wondering how I'm dealing with hunger, I'm using adv-bodyswap along with some random drunk I dressed up for combat - who then hacks corpses to pieces that I grab on my actual adventurer.
boy would it be nice if companions weren't complete idiots

EditEdit: DEATH FROM ABOVE
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And so after finding myself even further crippled in this fight (to the point where I had only one horn and a bite left)
A lot of boring pages of

this stuff happened

Until eventually the grind paid off in the end and
done

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Boy, I sure am a mess by now!

also say goodbye to this line of progress because i just crashed after taking that shot
But yeah, it was the old fashioned ambush where someone eventually stabs you in the foot. Which is minorly inconvenient when you're already a cripple without both your arms and with four melee and one ranged enemies remaining.
Then after that and taking out the enemy that took out my foot - the ranged scum manages to disable my other leg. And then I strangle the remaining swordmaster and put a horn through its head. Same goes for the bowman, after I finally found the bugger.

While in a castle that was going through some sort of bizarre event causing its residents to fight one another, I rushed to save some kid about to be attacked by a goblin. As I entered the room the goblin struck at the child, who parried, counter-struck, and stabbed him in the foot.

Just killed a hydra using only a copper sword, a new adventurer (had only raided one camp) and the help of 2 crossbowmen. I have no idea how, but none of us sustained any damage.

The RNG was with you. It will not be next time.

So, whilst un-interneted, I had little else to do but dwarf fortress and my prehistoric copy of starmade. During that time I had some fun adventures with a human swordswoman, and ended up knowing, somehow, two different forms of necromancy, elemental magic, and illusion magic. On top of being a werewolf. I wiped the world of some 20 or 30 vampires, a minotaur, a dragon, a pack of dingos, and 15-20 or so brutemen who ambushed me and my companions. Everyone else was killed but me, and I became a legendary swordsman during that encounter.

I also visited a town that was entirely abandoned save for a dragon woman slave administrator (funny because the slave caste of dragon people are sub-sapient and cannot read or learn any skills, but worldgen doesn't give a crap.) and some dozens of bandits and vampires in the underground. Oh, and two companions I'd thought i'd lost somewhere in the woods turned up manning the towers atop the city walls. I retired there after depositing the books I'd taken from the necromancer/whatever towers.

In my adventure, my human Hanz killed 61 people with his bronze scimitar, stole almost 500 gold coins, then he got killed by a tame dog.
He was blessed by god in the legends of my world, Tar en. And I agree with that :P

I just went to an abandoned fort of mine for the first time. It was a few days travel away from the nearest human civilization, and I ran into semi-frequent goblin ambushes (from which I always ran) as well as the occasional, easy to take on bogeymen when I didn't get to the mountains or beaches in time. I became a vampire before going so I didn't have to worry about finding animals to kill all the time.

It was fun to explore the fortress in adventure mode, toggle a few switches, etc. At some point I decided to satiate my vampiric thirst, which led me to waiting around outside until bogeymen happened to come. No problem, but at one point one of the dwarves passes out and I decide to risk getting some blood. That's when I was caught in the act, and then proceeded to slaughter a good dozen or so of the dwarves that were hanging around, before "giving in to starvation" because I was bored.

Lessons:
  • Everyone in my next fort needs some military training. My thoughts are a main hall "danger room" setup and/or conscription squads, just so everyone's prepared. (And at the least knows how not to die.)
  • My military needs better training. That means either risking "long patrol duty" training sessions, or using a danger room for my first time.
  • Don't flood a fortress I would like to explore.
Edit: also, one of my next adventures should be just a misc. object user. At one point in the fight against my fort dwarves I picked up a ☼hornblende table☼ and started beating people with it, just because I felt like it. :D

Looking for a vampire in a town populated by humans and goblins, seems she must be underground or something, my companion and I are jumped by 10 or so lizzardmen that poured out of a sewer entrance (which headed away from the target location). We handily defeat them in their own element then my companion just disappears while I'm talking to some locals.
I enter some dungeons through a keep and find all the humans in there are hostile. I've come from visiting my fort and have amongst other treasures and weapons a backpack of blue giant serrated discs.
So many random rooms, the humans must use a succession fort program for their architecture, a lot of fighting. A master, a chieftess, an overlord and many cronies.
I don't know why they were hostile, I haven't become an enemy of any civilizations, didn't take anything and when I made my way back out the humans and goblins populating the surface were still friendly.
No idea what happened to my companion (probably a good decision on her part) or what ticked off the dungeon dwellers. I watched a fishcleaner kill my vampire target in the previous town and killed a were-something in a lair before arriving here.
I know very little of adventure mode.

edit;

So I found the vampire learning the quest target locator seems to only direct you to the city/ town in general lol. The locals were quite specific. The vampire however when questioned about service gave a quest to kill a "lowly outcast" who perpetrated some crimes and (previously) occupied the dungeon in the town. I'll assume that explained why they were hostile on sight even though I didn't have that quest yet. Some sort of dungeon bandit camp? There was a significant force and a tonne of loot for a lowly spearman.

Giant serrated discs so far seem to be leg-seeking when thrown.

Frisbees of dooooooooom!!

And yes, the hostile people in the sewers were probably all bandit gang members. There's occasionally a few other random crooks and hooligans down there with them that aren't explicitly bandits, such as vampires.

The built underground structures under keeps are even called "dungeons", and appropriately are the closest you come to classical dungeon crawling in DF - they're stocked with bandits and some loot. How well-stocked they are depends on local history, i guess. In young worlds, they tend to be fairly bare.

I finally vampirised my elven adventurer in order to have an easier time finishing off the necromancer tower. I had started her out with "very low" stats mostly, so wasn't too buff at maxed attributes, vampirification finally boosted her unburdened speed to 1402 (from 1100 or so, usually a bit under 1000 with the normal food and drink load). She was mostly fighting with her teeth, but used a bronze stabbing knife against large foes that were immune to shakes. Her armour consisted of a shield. Clothing were a face veil, a turban and four loincloths. Nothing else. The only wound she gained while adventuring was a broken toe.

I bit-and-shaked all necromancers in the tower to death but didn't bother killing the zombies, since those were all peaceful and i didn't want to go around hitting Alt-Z over and over while fighting them. I merely packed up the slab and a few books with the secrets of life and death, dumped them into the volcano and then jumped in myself, because there was nothing really left to do in that world (since i don't go in for genociding peaceful villagers).

I modded in Bronze Colossi as a playable race, and as it turns out, being a nigh-invulnerable walking statue with super strength is incredibly fun. Especially when you're a Legendary Fighter, Legendary Wrestler, and Grand Master Striker.

Nosta got tired of beating the tar out of dingoes for villagers, and so he's currently travelling north east to find adventure. Hopefully to find a kobold village to destroy, or maybe a Forest Retreat to wipe out, because screw elves. A new two-handed sword would be nice, too. Silver isn't good for edged weapons.

Worked my way upto enough renown to be sent to speak to the lord of the land for exciting quests to help the kingdom.
On the trek across the land, I picked up the secrets of life and death and discovered that while zombie minions are great,
Zombie Elephants are BadAss!! Immense fun being escorted by 3 behemoth bundles of rage. As a legendary++ Hammerdwarf I was able to kill them with a single headblow so their bodies were in great shape...

I learned on the way to avoid villiages *grin* and so, knew upon arriving at the castle of the lord, I couldn't take my pets in with me.
In the skirmish with the guards to kill my zombies, I lost track of one. But it was outside and i didn't worry about it too much, until two days later when i returned from a quest and found it out side the penthouse bedroom door of the lady of the land!

Elephants..... they thirst for your blood   ;D

After a long journey north my three companions and I stopped in the wilderness near our target to grab some grub and get some rest. The next morning we planned to close the small distance to the camp and deal with the Outlaw we had been sent after.

After a few grabbing some water from a nearby pool, the three dwarves announced themselves and charged at me with the intent to kill. Surprised by this I took a few steps back, only to notice the Full Moon that had only just risen into view... Knowing I could not let escape alive after seeing my transform I quickly dispatched them, collected my things into a single backpack, and slept till dawn.

The Moon apparently still full, I stealthily located my target, killed the band of outlaws one by one without being spotted even as their bodies flew around the camp in plain sight, then waited for morning.

Being a Dwarf once again I quickly equipped my gear and set off towards civilization only to discover an unknown camp. Interested in what was there I snuck in to check things out, only to see 20~ kobolds milling around. Unable to resist the chance to get some training, and figuring they couldn't be that hard to deal with I quickly cut down an archer on the outskirts. I then took the bow and arrows and began firing just for kicks. After the first few went down I moved closer to get a better angle on the rest, only to get spotted and descended upon from all sides. Dodging rapidly I took 3 more down while working my way backwards, only to get hit in the leg by a copper arrow, chipping the bone through my steel greaves. 10 dodges later and my Dwarf Were-wolf adventurer in full steel armor passes out from the pain and is stabbed in the face by a kobold....

Just reached the ruins of my twelve year fortress with my badass unretired necromancer dwarf. Hopefully there will be enough corpses to raise and block the demons from me. I will have revenge and then wander the underworld! Or die but I hope not. I've survived for too long to die now...

My elven adventurer has really been shining in her last few battles:
1. Giant dingo, killed without weapon use. Just kicks to the chest. Unfortunately, i couldn't get the beast on the ground, so no bone breaking, no brainsmashing. And it kept charging me to the floor. But well, that's the only really feasible way to beat such a large opponent without any weapon use at all.
2. Night troll lair, three night trolls and one mate. Again, all killed without weapon use. Wrestled them to the floor, kicked their bones apart, then bit-and-shook until they bled out.
3. Dragon. Well, i wasn't going to stand in the fire trying to kick its lungs in, so shot it with my bow while stealthed. On the second shot, the dragon fell unconscious from pain, so i closed in and _choked it to death_. Really.

In other news, i'm playing completely unmodded (no adventurer reactions or anything), and have 13 experience points in 'mason'. I'll have to check, it may be that this was caused by hitting stuff with a ladle? It seems that conking stuff over the head with tools sometimes results in unusual skill gains - i had arena dwarfs gain miner skill by bashing each other with wheelbarrows once...
