I generated a new world that was apparently littered with bandit camps and I got completely fed up with all the fun I was having with my heroes. I decided to go with a demi-god instead and I raided every bandit camp I knew about in that particular realm. I then got my ass kicked at a Necromancer tower. It was the first time I ever tried to get into a Necromancer tower.

By the way, in one of the bandit camps I raided there were several named bandits fighting among each other. Is that common?

I've gotten into the habit of starting all my characters as human outsiders as the lack of equipment gives a clear goal for the beginning of the game and a reason to explore the hamlets.

Haven't yet been able to pinpoint where I am in the world but, according to locals, the only nearby notable landmark is Badknife, which was founded by the Failed Hatred.  A little exploring reveals that the mountain to the west (The Shaken Finger) is swimming with goblin fortresses, one of them Badknife.

Now, I've just been ambushed by a team of goblins, representing the Failed Hatred.  Guess I know who runs this mysterious corner of the world.

I am sad to see that this big blob of water with a spiral shell of water is what the Empire of Extrication is so afraid of.

I resurrected three of the corpses around it. Immediately one punched it's shell off, and then another punched it to death. I am currently on my way back to civilization after successfully braving the dense jungles and constant rain and occasional dwarven bandits.

I mean, it's not really that hard, is it? Anyone can wield a torch, it doesn't prove anything. Wearing flaming clothes on the other hand, or better yet, wearing nothing at all and being on fire... that is the essence of dwarfish behavior."

I've been trying to train my adventurer in wrestling, but she's just not strong enough to tie the largest of creatures into knots yet. In fact, I had had a grip on a lion's throat and was doing my absolute best to strangle it despite only being able to adjust my grip. I was sneaking to make sure that the critter didn't notice and maul me, but an unintended side effect was that the lion eventually got bored and walked away.

Tried adventure mode once more (I always do so horribly that I mostly stick in fortress) and died in my first fight, as usual. I get 1-2 hits in, then the opponent always seems to do something to stun me. And when stun wears off, my adventurer is half dead and stunned again. Then Struck Down.

I finally got a good adventurer again, a Dwarf of course. I managed to kill an entire dungeon pretty much on my own, taking a small cut to the groin and left buttock (the groin cut must be just her period). Anyway i just got ambushed...And i was about to kill a bowguard (using Masterwork mod) and he/she dies of old age. Somehow i managed to kill about 15 people in a clean cut by hacking their torso and make it fly away.

Just for fun, I modded elves to be able to resurrect the dead (not reanimate, full resurrection). I went into the catacombs and started resurrecting the bodies of some famous citizens. They didn't stay alive long before they died of old age, but they had some interesting stories to tell.
The random "peasant skeletons" in catacombs will become hostile if resurrected. Also, resurrecting a mummy before it can arise by itself will neutralize it. Kind of interesting.

Which is a better weapon for an adventurer, an artifact iron mace or masterwork adamantine battleaxe?

I'm also wondering: how beatable are demons by vampire adventurers? Can't decide if I should breach HFS or not. Can demons be raised by necromancers?

1. Two different styles of weapon are difficult to compare. Artefact iron mace (blunt) gains a x3 to hit quality modifier and will be very good for bashing skulls. Masterwork Adamantine battleaxe gains a x2 to hit quality modifier and will be very good at slicing limbs off - keep both for different things. Some enemies are more vulnerable to blunt or edged attacks (e.g. try killing a bronze colossus or a clothed demon law-giver with a bladed weapon).

Second point to consider is your adventurer size. If you are human you will manage to wield either of those singlegrasp. A mace and a battleaxe are size 800, and depending on your adventurer's size that may be too big for them to wield in one hand (if you are a dwarf or an elf). Try equipping a weapon and removing your shield to see if it is displayed as "multigrasp" in your inventory. If it is, you'd be better finding a war hammer (400) or short-sword (300). You can still use multigrasp weapons in one hand, but you get a hit penalty.

2. Demons are generally killable unless they are wearing clothing, or made of very hard/dense material. They are very large though (often >16000 urists, roughly 16 tons) so if they grab you they can easily tear limbs off. Sneak attacks work best.

Demon law-givers are usually attired in leather clothing, which is scaled up to fit their 16 ton bodies. This makes the leather about a foot thick, and edged weapons will glance off. These guys are significantly harder to kill.

3. Demons cannot be reanimated.

My first succesfull adventurer is finally wearing full iron gear and is wandering around town Fistplans looking for right sewer entrance. He has killed bunch of criminals and what not in those sewers, but still has not found his actual target. Just how hard it is to find one olmwoman from damn sewers?

Also, he has drank blood from five or six different vampires and is still just a mere mortal. Maybe he isn't so succesfull after all...

I decided to try an adventurer with a hero (instead of demigod) and this is going pretty well. Steel mail shirts really save lifes. While clearing the sewers, cave fish men group attacked me. There was something like seven of them. Blowdarts flung. I was sure that it was my end. They managed to surround me. And wound both of my arms. I lost my spear and shield. They all proceeded to beat me. I even lost my consciousness few times. My lower legs and lower arms are full of wounds. So are my hands, feet and every single toe and finger. Steel helm and mail shirt protected other parts.

I broke through their group with my bare hands and started to run. They were on my heels. I killed them with my fists on at time. Now I'm crawling back where I was first ambushed. I'll take my weapon back. Then I'll beat the remaning cave fish men by kicking their brains out. Revenge is sweet.

Short answer: whichever one your character is more skilled at.

Long answer: Maces suck at doing damage compared to battleaxe, however artifact gets a better to-hit modifier than masterwork.  Adamantine is great for edged weapons, making it perfect for battleaxes.  Assuming equal skills, I'd say the battleaxe is better, as even though it will hit less often it'll do WAY more damage.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

The moment you're caught in a demon's web, you're a goner as a vampire, necromancer, or regular adventurer. Don't know about Husks. Depends on if the demon actually decapitates you or not, since a mashed brain alone's nothing to a Husk.

I found a human city named Sleevevirgins. It was easily the biggest city in the world, so clearly I wasn't the first person to come inside the city's walls.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I think I might just leave HFS closed for now...

Interesting about the weapons, I'll just have to use both for different situations.
