Getting positively slaughtered. What I did without a scratch in .07, I die instantly in .08.

Guess it's time to try genning a new world. Save-compatible, indeed.

Despite my previous statement that Obok should retire, she's still going strong and slaughtering enemies left, right, and center.

Unfortunately, I think I just made an enemy of the local kobold civ, which of course can't end in anything but ambushes for me. I blundered into the keep and was immediately attacked by a fishery worker. She didn't even want to say hi, just punch me in the face. Or maybe *punch* is kobold for "Hi!"

Well, at least the entire damn city is abandoned...

Or it is now. We slaughtered them all. The women, the children, every last kobold on the walls of that keep died a horrible, gory demise consisting of mutilation and beatings. There were a few injuries to the party, though. Mostly to the new guys. I suppose it's less dramatic considering they all ganged up on us for no damn reason in the first place, and only backed down after losing a few bodyparts each.

Found another temple with a two story drop into it and decided to take a chance on finding another way out from inside. I stepped into nothing, broke a leg in two places on landing, spent some time unconscious. When I came to, I tried fast-travel, and it worked. Well, doh! That rope I've been hauling is worth what I paid for it -- nothing. Healed myself on fast travel and gave it another try, and this time my iron greaves bore the impact with nothing more than a few turns of stunning.

There were two gangs down there and they didn't like each other. Since they didn't want to screw with a legendary hero, I just chatted with them a bit, left them to their gang-war and went exploring. Found three mummies, and learned that when you destroy them, next time the area reloads their slab will update to identify you as their killer -- no more 'Died peacefully' crap for them.

After wasting entirely too much time down there, I traveled out and found a couple corpses topside, as well. In fact, all over town there was scattered violence, bloody bodies and bloodied citizens and soldiers, and no motive that I could figure out. Maybe it's a side effect of having an evil religion.

I generated a mostly default world which is called Mon Slospu.  I stopped worldgen at year 25 so that there would still be a lot of big baddies hanging around, and also turned up the number of civilizations and sites to allow for the lack of time for a more natural spread of civilizations to occur.

I just started playing Adventure Mode in DF2012.  This is my first real crack at it, and it's hilarious.  I used to play a lot of Nethack but not any more!

Anyway, I played around a bit on the very large continent but ended up really focusing in on a rather small island, perhaps a day's travel north to south, and half a day's travel east to west at the widest point.  It sort of tapers off both to the north and south of that point.  On this island are only two civilizations, a human one centered at the very southernmost point, in the large city of Asluowba, the seat of the warleader of the Cobalt Kingdoms, Mekgos Watchbusts.  He's a rather ineffectual ruler who, despite having one large city brimming with warriors, four large towns, and a number of villages has simply ignored the repeated kobold and bandit attacks on the human settlers in the north.  The northland only has one small town, with bandit lairs everywhere and a dread lair called Ngedlurusmo Asubanu, home of the kobold civilization Throdolodleengus.  This is the source of the plague spreading over the island called The Scalded Plane, and in Adventure mode I will defeat this plague and make this place safe for human civilization!

I started by eliminating some bandits and the typical hyena or two near the capital and eventually was sent steadily northward when I asked about Service.  One particular bandit crossbowman leader, by the last name of Buttonpants, gave me much trouble and killed a number of my adventurers.  He had a trio of bowmen which made it especially difficult, because I am not really into ranged weapons.  I eventually learned about keeping a tree between myself and the bowmen, and attacking at night when their vision is limited.

My most successful adventurer just passed away.  Spishab Ilpimogem Ebbakdurpal Utesh, "Spishab Aceden the Branded Glove of Crevices" died after wading deep into the very heart of the kobold civilization, killing many warriors and also a surprising number of clerks, administrators, and other bureaucrats.  He didn't actually ever take a serious wound from these kobolds.  What happened was that I eventually entered some sort of underground cavern (it gave me a message) and while battling on a steep slope, a kobold charged him from above and behind and knocked him off this long slope into a sheer vertical space which went down for about 15 z-levels and he was crushed by the fall.

I will recover his skeleton and place it in the temple in the city, and then I will send every last Kobold on The Scolded Plane to Hell!

Why, is there an unlimited number of kobolds in a kobold lair?  I've killed hundreds so far.

There should only be ~200, unless you leave the site and return. If you leave any site, all non-historical figures in that site, which represents ~99% of the population, will immediately respawn.

Mummy's loot is usually fairly good, sometimes good enough to be tempting, and sometimes too good to pass up. I came across this:
Code: [Select]
This is a masterful iron battle axe created by an unknown artisan. It is encircled with bands of finely-crafted rectangular black pyrope cabocons. This object menaces with spikes of finely crafted alpaca bone.
On the item is a finely crafted image of Jace Wingpoked the Most Tunnel of Spikes the human in rock salt.
My first masterwork weapon, and it's got a picture of me on it! In a 600 year old tomb! That must be the lamest name the RNG has given any of my adventurers, but it's still a pretty cool weapon.

Found an evil forest, a bit out of the way, but there was a labyrinth on the edge of it that I couldn't resist. Only one minotaur, a couple pieces of steel, not much else. If I were a dwarf or elf, I'd be dressed in full steel by now, but I doubt I've have all the masterworked leather humans are able to find. Six cloaks and a cape, three skirts, two hoods, gloves and chausses (or is that chausseaux?) -- I think I've made up the metal shortfall in total layers.

When I came out, I remembered I was in evil lands when I noticed dwarf blood falling from the sky. If I were a minotaur, this would be the perfect place to live -- tasty beverages delivered right to your doorstep. I decided to find beakdogs and harpies to exercise my new battleaxe on.

But there weren't any, just the standard rainforest critters with an odd undead coati here and there. After half a day the dwarf blood turned to bitter filth. It wouldn't wash off even in water; every pool and river I touched turned to bitter filth. Oddly enough I could still pour water on the ground and refill my waterskin with it. I'd sampled the dwarf blood, but I wasn't about to taste this nasty crap.

I got regularly ambushed by kobolds, but I couldn't find their homes, or any other landmarks. Finally, far to the north edge of the forest I found dead lands, filled with undead giant louses and thrips and barn owl people. Thought I imagined for a second that one got back up after I whacked it, but nope -- it really did. Then a couple more. Guess I'll be busy here for awhile.

okay here a fun tip on saving your self form a head on collision. if you have multiple minecarts or a minecart adventure reaction you can drop another minecart then push/ride into it.  This means the player can atleast control where they are going. next study, what happens if you reanimate corpses in a minecart?

Found a pack of Giant Thrip corpses, and after half a day of hacking, leveled Axe to Legendary. Then it occurred to me that I should've saved this weapon for notable kills. I mean this is a one-of-a-kind work of art, custom crafted in secret years before I was born, and I have just sullied it. "What hast thou slain, hero?" "A bunch of dead bugs. And their heads. Then I killed them again." I can't brag about this. I've disgraced myself and this unknown artisan.

So I switched to the scimitar and got that up to Legendary as well.

Btw, if you want undead companions that can take a lot of beating, I recommend Giant Thrips.

I sneaked in a necro tower, read the slab, and am now using my powers to rid the world of monsters... it's so useful when titans shrines and dungeons are so full of bodies.

However, I have trouble finding the catacombs and sewers in a town. They do exist, I have quests there (kill vampire with 19k kills) but I can't find the temple, and even where the travel map lists sewer access I don't see any- help, what should I look for anyway?
