you need to designate a zone, assign it a location as a main hall, then claim it via yelling aloud like a crazy person. I think naming the camp might also be needed.

Uh, yeah so zones, dafuq's "add rect" and "start flow", I'm confused. Stuck at workshop thing.

EDIT: Derped, nevermind. Been up all night gathering wood and hearthpersons plus planning my building. but yeah, still confused about the zones.

Designate with the rectangle or hit the key to expand the flow across the room, hit enter to confirm it, hit add location, main hall, name it if you want, then claim it and the little pop-up saying you are in control should show up.

Exactly. You get to the "designate rectangle" screen, put the cursor over the space you want one of the zone's corners to be in, hit enter. Then move until your cursor is over where you want the opposite corner to be, hit enter. You've now created a rectangular or square patch of zone. Such is life in The Zone.

Can't build a structure going into the water? ;w;

Theh! :) Am on the last legs of building the thing and hit a simple snag when building rooms for the three companions I recruited from the bandit camp. Made a colossal mistake of not removing bits of the floor to put walls there and wondered why the work didn't finish. *slaps self* All three companions/hearthspeople have been designated to their rooms and now it's just my own room left to polish.

Which brings me to my next train of though: The "meeting" hall, seems like a zone I need to set to that very top room (my room) I'm about to work on, its a zone I need to expand up there and then delete it from the ground level as that's where a small tavern-esque thing should be while the second level I guess I'll add a small library area.

I'm honestly surprised that the structure itself is finished from the ground up (took about an ingame week) and rather than a tower it ended up being a rather tall wooden fort with a corner-side tower at the north-east side.

Nice. Now you need to amass a fuckload of books and booze for a library and tavern. Of course, more reason I'm glad I added that to my mod...

Also, I continue having trouble getting my dozen dwarven drunks to not drop shields I deploy for their defense.

EDIT: Made some crutches...

nah but you can build one over the water.
and if you start the site near the tree line the site goes past the beach into the water.
also you can build on ice.
so this plan needs access to the caverns to set up a series of camps where I connect a floor bridge end to end that will allow me to safely connect the main site to land.

Hmm, weird. Meanwhile I've given all 4 of my injured dorfs crutches, and their injury icons updated from red major to yellow minor as soon as they stood up. Curious.

Now to see if I can get them all armed and bearing shields.

EDIT: Another night troll troll. During the ensuing scramble, we've bled a lumbering troll mate dry. Iton, one of the earlier crippled dwarves, is KOed from a mangled hand, but we have a fifth casualty now. Cilob is spraying blood from a severely mauled arm and leg, and we still have an unknown number of monsters to purge before we can safely back off to rest.

EDIT 2: Lumbering troll (to frail lumbering troll): "W... worried? Do I look worried?" You'd fucking better be. Your kind hurt my drunks.

EDIT 3: The third and final night troll has been slain. But...Ezum has bled to death. ;w;

I started my current adventure (first where I've survived the first day) as a human inside of a major town. I managed to find a mediocre iron longsword, helm, and buckler right off the bat, so that was a good sign. My two dwarf companions and I have been starting to make a name for ourselves by killing bandits. I've been able to clear some of the bandit camps entirely on my own by sneaking up to the inhabitants and cutting their heads off... I also discovered that I have to use a quick slice to do it, as a precise (or sometimes normal) attack results in Urist McKillSteal launching a bolt into the target's brain first.

I've foregone trading entirely since I've found more iron equipment inside of bandit camps (including a masterwork iron longsword) and because I've happened across enough wildlife to keep me well-fed.

My first bit of actual excitement came when I had to sleep in a jungle at night: My companions and I were awoken by a hungry pack of approximately 12 Dingoes. I managed to dodge away until the ones attacking me formed a line, at which point I cut off their legs one by one. Leaving a trail of broken canines behind me, I assisted my marksdwarf by beheading the dingo that kept grabbing him. Assuming my macedwarf to be dead, I proceeded to cut the heads off of the downed dogs. Only when I finished did I notice that my other companion had not only returned, but was crying over his mortal wounds. Rushing over to him, I saw that the skin and muscle on his arm were bruised. He would continue to wail over how his horrible injuries had caused him to realize how fleeting life is for the remainder of his days.

Speaking of that, my second interesting encounter came when I discovered a lair while wandering through the woods; inside were what I now understand to be trolls. Fortunately, I was immediately thrown towards the exit while my companions began attacking the troll. Their brave, brave sacrifice enabled me to gain enough distance to get away from the horrors of that lair. I now have two Human companions who don't whine about bruises, but the trolls left me with more than bruises of my own: I cannot sleep inside of any town or hamlet. Scarred by the horror of seeing my companions mutilated to death, and feeling growing urges to make friends and help someone, I must now venture off into the wilderness and survive there until I can avenge my fallen comrades.

The Greater Steel guide me to glory, both in combat and in death.

Well, for now my structure is officially finished for now. I am however still scratching my head about the flow thing during setting up a zone as its in different kind of color, what's that about?

Anyhow, good thing I built my building almost nearby to a marketplace (short map travel to the north). My hearthpersons consider me and themselves still brigands.. which is a rather refreshing thing and reminds me of something nostalgic. Guess my next step is to visit the marketplace to sell most of the unnecessary items for booze and gems and musical instruments if I find. All the heads and trophies will stay in my hall room or in the cabinets like the tall pale metal shield I have along with a pale metal weapon of choice (most likely the divine greataxe I used for chopping wood). And before or afterwards I'll need to create some bismuth bronze gear along with kenaf vest and loincloth (kenaf because I saw the local civ wearing some of the stuff from that, IIRC) for novelty and different drolth testing.

Slowly making my way back to The Bastion of Wine. Despite all the bleeding, Cilob survived. Gave him a crutch I made, plus a grown wood breastplate I found in the lair. It may be elven work, but it's better than nothing as I can't make anything in their size.

You'll be home soon, Ezum.

I've yet to test flow zone. D:

Well mu hammerman companion will be missed. After getting ambushed by goblins, he took no less than seven bolts and survived to kill the crossbowgoblin. Among his kill list was also a swordsgobbo and a lashergob. As well as five goblin recruits.
After getting ambushed by the same group 5 times my hammerdude and I come across a lair and awaken the cyclops. man oh man, the cyclops punches the hammerdude in the face and slams him into a wall hard enough to sever his leg. And then a follow-up punch brained him. Now my cheetah man is running circles around it with the copper longsword, occasionally picking up hammerdude's silver hammer and throwing it. The Cyclops keeps on blahing on about how good he was improving his hammer skills. I don't thing the starting copper longsword is going to work too well. Multiattack slash/dodge seems to do well though, I'll just keep chipping away.

I actually hauled the poor sod's corpse all the way, plus all the clothes he had, to put in one of the caskets back home. I think I'll place a shield and a mug of booze in there too.

And updoot. Cyclops is dead and I plan to use this newfound fame to recruit peoples.
Next service as a heathperson: Kill an ettin named Yane. The ettin's crime? "Knowing no mercy, Yane stole the blue chopped shark liver!"
