TSALT Arena - We need to brainstorm a new battle system.

I am going for one thing here, compact, entertaining fights with little down time.

@'s are where people will start, you can be any ASCII symbol that ain't confusing (no floor people).
The turtle is the "ball" so to speak, you have to get it to the enemy table to get a point that round.
We might be doing half-points if you get it back to your table.  Turtle resets.
The only map right now is 8vs8.
Don't expect this not to be a deadly sport.

This is very cool, I like the "Take it to the enemy base" idea, kind of like the bomb missions on Halo. I'll join.

I thought of some bland character types in about 5 minutes.  Anybody else have comments to add or fix?

I'm trying to make speed the highest priority thing here.  Fast characters will have little else in terms of advantage, but they have one major thing that others don't, the ability to run away from a fight.

interesting, I'll take a spot, but not sure what character type I want yet.

As for suggestions, maybe some ranged attack types and healer types? give em low movement, and fairly low hit points. But let them strike/heal at range

Probably not range attacks at all, I don't want any range fight really.

Healers could be an option though.

I changed up the OP to make it more readable I think.
I also added something I missed, you can also win by killing all the opponents.
This just makes sense, I don't want you to kill everyone and then SLOWLY move to the chair.  Plus it does other stuff I don't know yet.

Make leaders or something who give bonuses.

Everyone is given fair treatment.

Every one takes a tank and moves to block the way to the table they cant lose.

By blocking with the tanks you force the enemy to attack.

But there is no way one person can take on a tank. Position them correctly so it is a one on one battle at a time and each tank will take out at lest one guy. Unless the other team is all tanks at which point it is just down to luck and there is no point to the game.

I have an idea.

If you bring the turtle back to your own table TWICE you get the point that round.

When you score the half-point the ball resets, but not the players.

That may work, there is still going to be balance issues because now the strategy is to go in all tanks, let the other team get the half point than send four guys back with the ball to score and than send the rest back. But random chance and positioning will help make it playable. I will sign up.

Question: How do turns work? Does everyone put in a movement than they all move or does one from each team move? How does it work?

I'm not sure yet.
Standard turn-based actually sounds like a bad idea.
I'm thinking a turn-based were both teams go at the same time and can "lock" into combat.

This is based off of AFD's old game treasure sounds alot like treachery.  It had the same thing I think.
