I would stay home from school but I already stayed home once this week and with the release so close, I can't afford to miss too much Track practice.

I'm debating waiting until the next bug-fix release...depends on how many critical bugs pop up I suppose.

If it was released Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, I probably would. Friday or the weekend I already be at home downloading it.

I would happily blow off my Composition or Math class for DF if I need to.  Hell I could even tell my math teacher that a Doctorate in mathematics made me do it!

My programming and operating systems classes I wouldn't need to skip, I have 2 hours between those classes at a computer technology campus.  I think there is more "Use for anything but porn" computers in the lobby of that campus than there are classrooms.  And DF easily fits onto my USB (along with stonesense, companion, and VF) so I could just play it there.

If the next version comes out on a weekday, there will be strange explosion at all schools within a 100 mile radius of me, shutting them down and giving me lots of free time!

TELL ME YOUR SECRET.

It's just a cheap little MemorexTraveldrive I bought from the school bookstore for $10.  It's 1 GB total.  Currently has DF40d16(+stonesense, companion, and VF), hengband, MuCade, spelunky, doomRL, and cpuz.  Not counting my school related stuff like essays, lab notes, and Visual Logic.   Considering putting a genesis and SNES emulators on it too.  It's only using up 1/4th of it's maximum space.  I don't even have them zipped, so It dosn't seem that hard.

Everything seems to run fine (except Visual fortress that seems to only works with the newer vista computers in the lobby for some reason)  And the only side effect DF has from running completely off the usb is slow load and save times.

An April 1st release would be real peachy, if you know what I mean.

I would love an April 9th release myself.  If he can't get it in this week for spring break of course.

As for why...well...

HAHA! this is one of those times that working from home pays off.

"What the hell? For the past week or so, this guy hasn't sent us ANY of the product we ordered, and he won't return our calls. I guess we'll just have to go with somebody else."

Donations pay for continued development of DF -> Toady releases new version -> Everyone on the forum calls off for the day -> Everyone abruptly loses their job -> Without jobs, everyone stops donating -> Toady can't afford to keep working on the program -> "Dwarf Fortress Has Crumbled..."

Releasing the new version will be like the cash-flow equivalent of a tantrum spiral. Regardless, I'm probably going to try and finagle the day, or at least cancel all my plans for the weekend. Human contact is overrated... I've got to get reacquainted with seven short, alcoholic fellows I used to know. :P

I'm debating waiting until the next bug-fix release...depends on how many critical bugs pop up I suppose.

But...but...the crippling bugs are the most Fun!

you know I like the april first Idea, everyone will think its a joke, but then it isnt, and everyone crys

On the plus side, the people going "DUDE NOT FUNNY" would relieve some of the load on the server.

And I'm not taking a sick day, I'm cashing in my vacation days. Or quitting.
