My fort populations are well controlled because I use init.txt, and set the maximum relative number of children to no more than 10%, and often 7%, while I have a pop cap of 140 (for king/queen), but will set it down to 7 or something when I get the royalty in.

You really don't.  Probably.  Er, it actually didn't bother me much, but that's because I'm a freak.  If the idea of *dwarves* mating bothers you, then you shouldn't look it up.

Military dwarves breed, but their children have a somewhat higher attrition rate than those of nobles.

The damage is already done in my fortress's case, although my recent experiments in suspended animation for troublesome nobles are yielding promising results.

Currently I have nothing of substance to contribute, but I just wanted to say that what I've quoted above are two of the funniest sentences I've read recently.

If the idea of *dwarves* mating bothers you, then you shouldn't look it up.

I don't think anyone was serious about that. On the other hand, the thought of all that "brain bleach" bullshit being meant as jokes is disturbing as well.

I second that request for that link. A quick search for "goblin fortress" turned up nothing.

Impressively enough, a google search for "goblin fortress" works fine.  The first result takes you to the end of the thread.

The full thread title is "Goblin Fortress [NSFW]". which is, well, true.

Thanks for the link, mate. I'll read it as soon as I can.

I don't know what to think about that padlock symbol, and about the fact that a previous poster here claimed they were banned for posting there. I thought this was an open minded place.

I think the thread in question is only really 'good' for the first few pages, and then degenerates in a bad way.  If it was just some prissy mod not liking the thread subject then I would have agreed with you, but there's no need to leave something like that open when it has been derailed and taken such a hostile tone.  At least it remains viewable rather than being deleted like it would be in other forums.

I have a possible experiment that could serve as a solution to this problem.

Simply designate a place as the "noble zone." A place where every useless, lazy, horny noble lives that contains everything they need.

Put them in, lock a door, VOILA! Isolated nobles.

It's like a noble zoo. Occasionally dump supplies down there, or alternatively, sacrifice a few dwarves so that they have their own personal farmer, weaver, etc., all in one isolated area of the fort where the kids can't interact with the rest of the population.

I'm doing this for my current fortress. My nobles are locked away in a vault underground, isolated from the rest of the fortress. They have a well, a farm, and their own tiny but lavish bedroom and dining rooms. I've used dwarf manager so that they will farm their own crops. As punishment for being nobles they don't get booze, only water from the well. They also are only allowed to ever eat the same food. I hope they like strawberries!

Within this vault are all of the levers to the various parts of my fortress, including my traps. There is absolutely no way to access this vault from anywhere else on the map.

All the nobles do is chat with each other and furiously pull at levers whenever I tell them to pull a lever.

Why use a repeater? My death traps are powered by immured nobles.   :D

The stone walls are thick enough that you cannot hear their screams for booze.

Assuming you can keep them from tantruming and destroying the levers, what do you plan to do about the inevitable spawning of dozens upon dozens of noble-spawned children?
