"Wrex" isn't a profession. Neither is "Williams", "Alenko", or "Rayya".
Never heard of 'Wrex' but 'Williams' I've heard comes from 'Williamson' a common alternative to profession-naming was naming after the father. Hence surnames like 'Johnson' and 'Jackson'. And this is all, of course, following a fairly European naming tradition. But again, it is most common for names to be 'son of' or '*job title*', just in the native language.

Also, surnames have often been of professions if not of place of origin.

See:

Joe Carpenter
Joe Smith
Joe... uh... Patel? (Farmer)

Carter, Tanner, Fisher, Shepard...

Wrex.

Don't worry, I saw what you did there

Odd how "Experiment" in DF is often synonymous with "Raging inferno of death and dispair"

Wrex doesn't need to be a profession, because he IS the profession.
That bitchy female killed Wrex..I didn't get to see him in the next game either :'(

Because you use dwarves to stab people.

In many Eastern naming traditions, it's largely the same surname format. Profession, Town That Family Has Lived In For A Long Time, Son of Father's Name, Name From Religious Scripture or Stories or National Heroes, etcetera.

The thing that confuses me about dorfs is this. Dorf 1 dies in an avalance or somesuch. Dorf 2 is friends with dorf 3 and dorf 1. Dorf 2 berserks because of his friends death and kills dorf 3. also a friend. W. T. F.
Clearly you've never been drunk.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

Proper English will make people take you more serious.

shepherd

Another profession-based last name, but with various spellings I believe.

Is that Wrex as in he wrecks things, or Wrex as in Rex, the latin word for "king"?
