Hello there. I am Reasonableman. Some of you may know me from my stupid Livestream, which has morphed into a sort of "Movie of the Day" thing instead. Others might know me from my Minecraft server, or maybe my many many posts in unimportant and uninteresting places around the forums. Today I want to talk to you about: GARRY'S MOD.

Garry's Mod is a multiplayer sandbox building game, in which there is no immediate goal. Instead, you are given tools, resources, and guns, and left to decide what you want to do with them. And oh, what you can do with them! Almost anything you can imagine can be built, with patience (and maybe the right mod or two.) And it always helps to drag friends along! Two men can build a bathtub aeroplane faster than one man alone, after all.

But this thread isn't really meant for those of you unfamiliar with the game; if you don't know what it's all about, Google around, watch some videos, and hopefully, buy it on Steam.

Then, come join us! At this very moment, I am tinkering with a dedicated GMod server. It's been a real pain to set up, and it's still giving me issues now and then, but I think I may finally have gotten it to a joinable state. I'll be running the server constantly from now on, if I can. At the moment though, things are mostly preliminary. I haven't got all the mods downloaded that I'd like, the server doesn't really have a name, and I haven't picked a good map to use yet. But, you can still join, and tinker around, and blow each other up if you'd like.

• Server Name - Currently, "THIS IS A SERVER!" Hopefully in the future I'll have something more appropriate.
• Server IP - Type "connect 64.234.4.72:27015" into the Garry's Mod console and violently jab enter to join, as it's likely that the server won't show up on the ingame server list.
• Mods You Need - At the moment, all I've got running in the way of mods is ASSmod (server administration mod) and the PHX model pack.

Now to get that PHX model pack, you'll need some kinda SVN dealie, and probably a decent tutorial on how to use it. Just go to Youtube and look for something, well, something like... this!

For now, that's all you need to join in the HIIIILAAARIOUS HIJINKS! Oh, and if you have any suggestions, I'm open to 'em.

Steam is still unavailable (disabled) to me, so it'll be another few weeks before I'll be back in, but I'll definitely visit.

I finally have most of the packs needed to be able to see what's going on and get involved. May need to re-download a few of them as well. But yeah, I'm in.

Hopefully I'll get around to understanding the other stuff like Wire.

I'm 98% sure that was caused by an stool that was malfunctioning and spitting out about a billion errors a second. I've gotten rid of it, so it shouldn't happen again. However, the server's gotta go down for a while as I need to use the computer for SERIOUS BUSINESS.

ALSO. Should I password protect the server? Or leave it open for random folks on Steam? If we go the latter route, I'll need to admin the heck out of you guys and gals.

 The making us admins bit would depend on us being familiar with being an admin, knowing what is a problem and what isn't and knowing the admin commands.

 I like the idea of locking it up, but I fear this will lead to an empty server most of the time.

 Is there some way of making sure it doesn't appear on the public lists?

Well, I'm using ASSmod, so to do admin-y things, all you have to do is type

bind "x" "+ASS_Menu" into the console, where x is the key you bind the admin menu to. Also maybe download ASSmod. Possibly.

Also hee hee har har ASSmod has ASS in it.

Anyway, for now, no password or anything on the server. And it's going back up for the night.

I would say i would also be a good admin, i have Experience on SS13 of admining.

I play Gmod, and I'm pretty good at wire... I don't usually join other servers anymore though.
