The Crab Nebula
« on: March 12, 2010, 12:43:13 am »

The last thing you remember was the machinegunner dragging you and fending off the enroaching enemy troops, trying to suppress your gunshot wound at the same time.

That was a long time ago.

You've been stationed in The Crab Nebula after the incident in Alpha Centauri, in which over 200,000 fell in combat. Your here on this new world, Crab Prime, in the Crab system in the heart of the nebula, which houses key fuel and electricity supplies. You've been placed in command of a squad, and your being transported to the city of Yurimesh, which lies in radioactive ruins. Fitted with gas masks, oxygen tanks, and AK-47s, you kick open the door to a now-ruined hotel.

Looks like they were waiting for you.

Ducking behind cover, you spray one with lead, dropping him. One of your squad mates pelt one, and that one goes down to. The remaining 6 return fire on your squad, injuring the grenadier and the medic.

You return fire, lobbing a grenade, blowing out the floor above you. The machinegunner hails fire too, blowing the last 2 to pieces.

You both rush over to the medic and grenadier, gradually patching them up, and after about 20 minutes they have bandages over their wounds. The commander radios you, telling you to get to Achir station abot 2 kilos north.

You look in the garage and out the back door, both ways seem clear, at least for a while. So you've got two options.
(A)Use the buggy in the garage to get to Achir station.
(B)Go through the back door to get to Achir station.

Map of currents event, arrows represent attacks, with the green representing the Global Government, of which you are in. As well as dots representing cities and towns. A star represents your current position.

 AK-47s?  Seriously?

And what kind of buggy is it?
Ordinary buggy with no weapons or the military grade buggy with Browning M2?

As far as the AK-47s go, your not exactly being given top-notch equipment here. Oh, and these are more upgraded versions of the AKs, not as inaccurate, but still packs a punch. Oh, and ordinary buggy w/ no weapons.

I think he means that AK-47 technology is disparate with superluminal spaceflight technology. We should have some sort of computer-aimed hyperaccurate hovering laserbots or something.

And I seriously wonder how a planet can survive a supernova explosion.

It would just be obliterated.
Or they would stop existing.

Mkay, maybe actually read the OP before jumping to conclusions? Just because the citys in radioactive ruins doesn't mean it's been auto-supernovaed, seriously. Maybe actually read the original post? It was nuked, if any of you are curious.

You all pile into the buggy, with you driving. The trip to the station is relevantly uneventfull, and finally you arrive.

Disembarking, a Sergeant walks up to you and says, "Hope you didn't encounter much opposition on the way here. We've got rebels inhabiting the city-Anyway, there's a huge fusion reactor near the underground of the city, and it houses key info and research on warp speed shielding. We're sending you and 3 other squads down there to retrieve the files and dispose of any rebels, and then plant this," he shows you a briefcase, and consequently hands it to you. "inside of this is a nuclear warhead. When you get there, radio back here and set it for 20 minutes, find a way out of the sewers and get to the shuttles that will be waiting for you back here at the station. Good luck, and god speed." And with that, you climb down into the tunnels.

((BTW, this is what your space suit and rifle look like, for those of you without imagination like me.))
Spoiler: Suit (click to show/hide)

Radioing the Sergeant, he tells you to go down to the reactor with either the abandoned subway system, or through the sewage tunnels.

You and your squad walks down the tunnels till you get to a doorway, and you walk into a large tunnel.

"Looks like the subway," says the medic.

   You say, "let's hope so."

After a few hours of walking, you motion your hands down and you all get prone. On an earlier suspicion, you turn the night-vision on your binoculars on and peer down them.

"Barricade. Looks like the rebels.. From what I can see theres about 6. Maybe more"

They nod, and you all get into position to open fire....

You all open fire, killing about 2 before a stray bullet strikes the grenadier in the chest, killing him. You scream and continue firing, killing about 3 more, and the last bullets strikes you in the foot.

You scream in pain, and the medic rushes over. After a few minutes your leaned back against cover, breathing heavily. The machinegunner and medic help you up, and you recover the grenadier's dogtag.

An hour or two later, you meet up with the rest of the squads and take a breather. Sitting down, they begin discussing a route. It finally concedes that you will all use the stairwell.
