http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-8235-noni <-- The map so far (at the beginning of this entry). Missed the quarry layer, I'll include it next time.
Also due to an oversight, I assigned a female to be Derek, and I found that out only after she gave birth >.> Erm... Actually, let's go with this :3 If I had noticed earlier I'd have used dwarf companion to swap him to a 'he' ^.^

They must have heard our stirring, or followed the immigrants here. More zombies have arrived, but this time we take no chances, the bridge has been drawn and by unanimous consent it will not be opened; we're still recovering from the last disaster after all. This is a real blow because we were unable to renew our wood supply... Allen says he has an idea, but also that he'll have to wait for relative safety to implement it...

A realization struck us recently; The cat we had tamed was slaughtered in the last invasion, which is leading to a growing population of rats. Rats carry various forms of disease, and we don't need them in our food stores. One of the unskilled immigrants has been assigned the task of capturing and preferably killing them. We'll need a replacement vermin hunter soon...

Our main square, as it were, is far too cluttered. Stone for the tower consumes most of the area, and workshops the rest. It works for now, if only barely... Oh how I wish Jill was still alive, she would have designed a sollution right off the bat... Our new architect, only a dabbler really doesn't seem too quick or eager to design a sollution, but that's OK, she's putting her energy toward continuing the residential tower.

I can hardly breathe for laughing! One of our marksman, Derek, turned out to be a woman! I won't pry beyond that but we only found this out AFTER SHE GAVE BIRTH! Ye gods in heaven I needed a reason to laugh! And the baby is a beautiful baby girl. Apparently the Father was Spartan. Poor thing. Well, it can't be helped I suppose. All we can do is try to make the best world we can for our kids to grow up in right? But what's borderline disturbing is the way Hellbringer totes the kid around on her back next to a holstered rifle.

I'm starting to notice a trend. Many of our residents are losing clothes, either from unwilling to wear bloody rags, or torn clothing. Still, I'd thuink rags are better than tothing. Lou has been trying to find wild cotton growing within our walls but sadly, no such luck. We'll have to request seeds, if our liason ever makes it back. I've taken it upon myself to turn some of the leather hides I've tanned into dresses, simple garments. Next I'll try to make some robes and jackets, hopefully they'll help.

Obsidian! And from what I understand not where it should be. Allen says it's warm as well! There's volcanic activity around here! This could be a mixed blessing, as we've had bad luck with large projects in the past, and yet this could make metalworking feasible! Heck, we could even turn it against the undead! For now though, Allen's just trying not to breach the pipe or risk flooding our hard-earned quarry with liquid rock.

All of us are tired of descending into the rather dark quarry to fetch a few stones at a time to keep our main reserve stocked, which is why we've agreed to take this time to haul out every last excavated stone. It shouldn't take too long with all of us working on it together.

The work is hard, and grueling. We're piling up all the stone in a huge mass that seems to defy the laws of physics somehow. The zombies retreated for two glorious days of silence, only to return today in a larger force than before. It's like a sea of rotting flesh... We can see them, when we go to the top of our tower, milling around, shadows in the dark, shapes in the distance stumbling awkwardly, searching for a meal. With the job's end nowhere in sight, we have decided to forgo anymore stone stockpiling, we'll work on it gradually. For now... We have other worries.
