I don't think I need to say much more.

You probably should, since as far as I know you can use two doors next to each other- what exactly is it that you're suggesting?

I personally wish it were possible to door off sections larger than two spaces; as I sometimes make wider corridors to adjust for flow of traffic.

Perhaps something similiar to how channels are made, in which on stretches the door length until it fits? I could see each section requiring a material.

Maybe he is thinking of something like doors where only one can be opened at a time? I don't know. That might be useful if waters flooded through opened doors, but as it is I don't see the point. And if he meant having two doors side by side, I believe that is already implemented.

Maybe flood gates could be renamed to the more generic 'gate'? A door must be built adjacent to a wall, on account of hinges. A gate just goes up and down. In theory dwarves could build 30 foot long doors, sure, but why bother when a verticle gate does the same thing? And imagine the problems that could occur when opening a big ole door? Squished dwarves EVERYWHERE.

What is you could rewall a section that's been dug away.

+ = door
W = dirt

X___X

Which currently allows X+_+X

Can be made as X+X+X

But walling off sections can potentially cause big pathfinding problems.

Well, in literal terms, a "gate" is also hinged.  A "portcullis", on the other hand, can be raised or lowered.

If I remember my bloats right, I'm pretty sure there's already plans for incorporating big gates.
