Seven wonders of your dwarven world?
« on: March 09, 2010, 01:24:34 pm »

Alright, here's the idea; Post a description of your seven most successful/extravagant megaprojects, or, if memory fails you, your most recent ones. No more than seven, but you can do less if you choose. if possible, include screenshots and other details such as materials used, the greatest difficulties encountered, the project's name, any special meaning it has for you, and any other details as you see fit.

Alternately, if there's enough support for it, we could have a competition for the seven most dwarvenly wonders of all bay12ers.

What do you think?

I suppose I should start, though I don't have screens of any of mine. had a nasty spyware infection and accidentally deleted my df folder and all my saves in the process of fixing it.

Actually the little hole is where I am going to run the magma pipe that will be used to fill the hollow clear glass capstone with magma.

That is definitely pretty badass.

At least we humans don't engrave things or put images of events on our stuff as much as dwarfs do. We'd have murals of presidents being assassinated and such all over D.C. as well as your standard cheeseburgers, Pontiac TransAms, and insects.

I'd say Towerscrape qualifies.

And if not, my desert fort I forgot the name of ages ago definitely does.

Skyrender, do you use modded reactions to quickly and easily get all the materials you need for your constructions or are they all "legit" (that is, you mine out, trade for, or make everything you use)?

Just curious.

I eventually want to do some megaprojects that do more than dump lots of magma on invaders, and look well doing it, but I definately run into material shortages when I want to use a specific material.

I couldn't even finish my bronze tower (4x4 including walls, ran out halfway up, switched to kimberlite, now out of that too... grr).

Well, if you have magma and sand, just use magma glass furnaces and you have an infinite amount of green glass.

This.  Pagedslipped is built from over 47,000 blocks of green glass, which came from several dozen magma-fueled glass furnaces set to collect glass and produce green glass blocks.  At least a third of my population are legendary glassmakers.  Glass megastructures are pretty easy when you have magma and patience.

I don't, so that's why i'm asking. I wasn't referring the glass pyramid, I was referring more to the other constructions.

For all of my megaprojects prior to Gearholes, I've turned invaders and cave-ins off, but no modifications besides that.  The former is critical for making any megaproject that's not going to be resembling a military compound.  The latter is just precautionary to prevent untimely deaths if I ever have to disassemble something I don't mean to build and it drops onto someone's head.  Gearholes, however, I've got those on for, and it resembles the fact too.
