Unfortunately, a Real Life (and a very board-game addicted dad) is causing me problems when it comes to writing this update. However, to slightly make up for it, I've added a music piece that I missed in the previous update. Go listen to it, so you'll be too occupied with berating me for my annoying tendency to procrastinate.

Oh hey, new post slightly before I was about to.

Great that you people haven't forgotten about this, because despite appearances, I certainly haven't. I will post the update before this week has ended (or I will fulfill my earlier bunny avatar promise).

In other news, I have finally found the game's Soundtrack page on Bandcamp, which means three things. A: I no longer have to upload all the songs. B: I can link directly to the soundtrack (which contains longer, organized pieces that fade out, which differs from mine as I just kinda ripped them out of the game files and converted them to mp3 format). C: If you really like the soundtrack (I know I do, which is why I am posting this), you can buy the soundtrack and download it onto your computer via this page.

Welp. Apparently I'm a big fat liar.

We decided to return back into deeper waters. I was eager to explore the surface, but Li had always wanted to go explore down there, since before his... bonding, he had never been able to venture there, because "his oxygen always ran out before he could get that far". Whatever that means.

((I can't remember if I mentioned this in the previous update, but Li does not actually have any in-game dialog, but Naija does confirm that he speaks to her at atleast one point. I may, or may not, write atleast one update from Li's perspective, if it calls for it.

What is basically coming up now is a backtrack back to the entrance of Mithalas. Here are some highlights on the way.))



((Here is when I remember that Li is totally awesome and the sooner you get him, the better. He finishes off more enemies in a swarm than you would think.))






A coincidental work of nature, or a remnant of some previous intelligence? Whichever it is, it makes a fine decoration.




As I explored, I kept discovering small blue crystals throughout the different regions. I remembered that I had sighted one inside the Mithalan Palace, but a long time passed before I realized the use of these crystals.



...but I did notice they were placed suspiciously close to steam vents.



((The swordfish is a fearsome foe. It attacks by charging at you nose first, which can be hard to dodge and deal a lot of damage.))




((The reward, however, is kinda good, as it helps you to heal the damage inflicted to you in that fight.))






((It's kinda hard to see in this screenshot, but I tried to kill this enemy by reflecting the rocks back at him.))



((But then I gave up and blasted him instead.))





((And this is were we originally were supposed to find the recipe for the healing poultice, except I accidentally skipped this place before entering Mithalas.))







Exploring a side-passage in the currents, I found another of the ancient turtles. If I would ever seek to return to Mithalas, this would make it a lot easier.





((And here you see where our current turtles are leading. We can pretty much skip to most major area we've been to now.))











There were a lot of crabs inhabiting this area. Very territorial crabs, I might add.

((The crab cake is made using Sea Cake and Crab Meat, and moderately increases Naija's defense for 15 seconds. Usually, you want to make Tough Cakes instead of sea cakes, though, since those restore health as well. Crab meat is easier to find, though.))



I was hoping Li might have understood the language I kept swimming upon throughout the waters. Sadly, he had never even seen them before. Maybe if I could find something to base a translation on...















We kept running into ruined constructions of a material I had never seen before. Li said they were made out of plants that grew above the surface. But what was it doing all the way down here?











Never before had I encountered such a lush environment. Countless diverse creatures floated between the tall stalks of Kelp. I could not help but be awed by the infinite beauty of the natural world.


















While a lot of the creatures were docile, a great deal of them were also hostile towards me. I couldn't help but think some higher being was after me, and was using the wildlife as a tool.

At the time I thought of it as simple paranoia...

There was, however, one creature which seemed inherently malicious.



((Hoo boy, the Sea Dragon. This little bastard attacks fast, often, in large clusters of projectiles, and hurts like hell. You'll be forced on the defensive often, as you'll spend a lot of time just dodging his projectiles. Which further complicates killing him, as he has a crapton of health.))





We tried to fight it, but in the end the only thing we ended up doing was trying to evade its relentless attacks.



So we decided that discretion was the better part of valor.




We'd take it on again some other time.










((Normally, at a savepoint is where I end my update. I decided to make this one longer though, to make up for my laziness.))







((Killing sharks gives you a shark fin as a trophy. What are shark fins good for? You'll discover later.))

Some of the creatures here surprised me with their ability to blend in to their surroundings.





((I can't remember if you can actually kill these things or not, but I'll try that later.))






Other predators had different methods of catching their prey.





((This is a water "spider", which is actually pretty counterintuitive, as they look more like crabs. They to move in straight lines in erratic patterns, laying webs after it. Swimming into the webs slows you down immensely. In this case, this isn't a problem, since he isn't that aggressive, but when there are other enemies around, not being able to dodge can be slightly annoying.))








((Our reward for killing them is spider eggs, which, truth to be told, I can't remember the use for.))









We discovered a small, narrow, winding tunnel, which we ventured further into.








At the end of it, we encountered a small, natural puzzle...

Next time, puzzles which may or may not include fish. And more Kelp Forest! Goddamn the Kelp Forest is freaking huge.
