Nope, it just ignores currents when swimming upstreams. I think. I haven't noticed any immediate speed increase anyway.

Chapter 3 - Heart of the Forest

As I left Mithalan waters, I was met by the mysterious cloaked woman once again. She regarded me for a couple of seconds, before simply vanishing the same way as she had appeared.





As my adventure in Mithalas had for now come to a close, I thought about where to go next. I had so many options available, but yet I could only focus in one direction, a severe desire to go...



Up.

These bright waters were warm and terrifying. The thought occured to me that I'd reached the end of the world. What if all that awaited me was a blazing inferno? Though my mind was terrified...

...my heart longed to venture further.


















Swimming through the new waters, I felt the surrounding area suddenly expand in a wide, open area, unlike any other I had seen before. Part of me was worried about what I might find, but yet I started to journey faster towards this new expanse.




That waters were becoming brighter and brighter with each passing moment.



Though the waters were still filled with enemies...



Rather cunning enemies.



But I am not easily ambushed. Especially not when I am wielding the powers of two deities.

Passing through a small opening through the rock, I looked up and saw what looked like a faint haze...






The first taste of air...



The warm embrace of the sun on my back...



The wind flowing beneath me...



I'd crossed through the Veil.



For too many years I'd been smothered beneath the surface, blind to the beauty of Terra.





I quickly swam up and lifted my head just above the surface to realize I was not breathing with my gills, but with my chest. The feeling was unique. I felt so invigorated. I swam down again...

...then I turned around and pierced the surface once more.








((Being a water dweller, Naija does not know how to walk on land (and I don't know if she even has the balance senses required for it either), which means she can only cling to a surface, not move around on it. However, we can still jump away from a surface, in the same way we do underwater (except with gravity), which is our main way of locomotion above the surface.))






((Our second Ancient Turtle, which now means we can travel between Home Waters and The Veil in mere seconds. There is another one of these turtles in Open Waters (in fact, just a short distance away from the entrance to Mithalas) which I forgot to check out. I'll get that next time I go through the area.))

After playing around enough at the surface, I decided to explore the immediate area, only to run into some old friends.






It was at that moment I first saw him.

You should have had a cliffhanger while Naija was actually hanging off a cliff. 


Didn't figure she'd be able to breathe above water.  I guess that's one of those things we'll figure out soon enough.

hmm a conundrum. If she could breath through her throat then what if she ever accidentally swallowed water from a strong current and filled her lungs? I think a more sensible option is that she breathes through her skin (like frogs? iirc).

i picked up aquaria about a week ago and have finished it. it is a really amazing game. I will still read your posts though so i can see it from another perspective.

Yeah yeah, I'll try again tomorrow with it, but it was kinda annoying what with having a lot of dialog to write down. I had written most of the important stuff when disaster struck.
