So the multiplayer Civ IV session I had planned for today got fucked up for me due to Hamachi, so here's a small update instead!

Spoiler: Part 3 - Nautilus Prime (click to show/hide)

Upon exiting, it dawned on me that apart from the Song Cave and the Energy Temple, I hadn't really explored the surrounding area at all.



I swam south, never expecting to end up in another major battle so soon after the last one.






And there it was.



The Nautilus Prime.

As I tried to sneak past it...



It awakened.




It dashed at me with ferocious speed and power, and I only narrowly escaped its tackle. I retaliated in kind with the Energy Form. While I could not pierce it's thick shell, it had a weak point where its mouth extended, and I aimed carefully in order to bring this foe down.



Not only did it attack me by rushing into me, it also called its young to help it, and fired projectiles at me. I did my best to dodge the projectiles, and to neutralize its young before their numbers grew too large.






I briefly found shelter and took some time to cure my wounds.






I then resumed my barrage, this was a battle to the death.

And I intended to come out victorious.







Soon...



...it succumbed to its wounds.






With the demise of the Nautilus Prime, I peeked into the cavern it had zealously guarded.






The baby nautilus seemed to think I was its mother, and started following me around. It made me think about the act I had just committed, robbing this child from its true parent. Was it self-defense? Was it simply trying to rid the waters of a ferocious predator? What's the greater evil? Inflicting harm on something or letting it inflict harm upon others? I would have to use my new-found powers with greater care in the future.



Nevertheless, the pet I had just received would provide to be useful, attacking my enemies by dashing into them.





I headed home. This had been a busy day, and I required some rest.

i too wonder if the developers of these games ever consider that concept when putting pets into games.

yeah i just went and killed this little guy's parents and stole their baby and now it just hangs around me all the time, is that not cool or what?

As morning dawned, I woke up and started to prepare for the new day's endeavors. My mind wandered as I tried to imagine what I would find today. There wasn't much left of importance near my home waters, but I would explore what little there was left before moving on.

My pet nautilus seemed rather eager to explore as well. I had not yet decided a name for it yet, but that was a less important issue.



I exited my home and swam upwards.






The Sea Cake had similar regenerative properties as the other recipes I found.

((The Sea Cake is produced by cooking Any Egg with Any Oil, and restores a small part of Naija's health.))




I remember this fish from before my awakening. Every time I would find something of use near it, it would sweep by and devour whatever it was I found. I decided for a little retaliation.




Were I becoming a type of vigilante? Maybe.







However, most of the times I had to use my Energy Form was in self-defense. These parasitic creatures reproduce like no other, and swarm upon other creatures to kill them. More hatching pods then grows from their corpses, spawning more of these tiny predators.

((They do not actually create more hatching pods in-game, but fluff is important.))




I soon came upon familiar architecture.




A secret entrance to the Energy Temple, sealed off from the main part by stone and rubble.






In this part of the temple, I found an ancient Krotite relic.







While very ornate, the old Krotite battle armor was ceremonial, at best, and the protection it offered was negligible.

((Our first costume, this armor has no real effect beyond the cosmetic value. The alternate costume is only visible in normal form. All other forms retain normal appearance. I'll let you guys decide if she should wear it or not.))



I exited the temple and continued my explorations elsewhere.

Spoiler: Chapter 1, Part 4 - Into the Unknown (Part 2) (click to show/hide)

I found a pearl in a small, hidden little cave, but I let it be, as I had currently no use for it.






These large turtles travel throughout all regions of Aquaria. I would have used it to travel great distances, but I was worried that I'd get lost. I'd best find another resting place for these chelonian transports before riding one of them.

((Ancient Turtles are essentially quick transport between areas. You can only travel to other Ancient Turtles that you have found, though.))



However, for traversing shorter distances, riding a seahorse would prove to be a very useful mode of transportation.



While it won't respond if you try to tug or force it anywhere...



I found out that calling out in song would make the mount obey my commands.







I made a mental note to pick up any objects that might become useful later in the future.











As the door opened, I proceeded into unknown depths. It struck me that I had never been this far from my home before.

Nevertheless...

I was determined to proceed.



Chapter End.

So yeah. The first chapter is over, and the next one will begin on Friday, and will probably be a bit larger than the last one. Also, we now have two choices which I have left up to you guys:

First of all, Naija's new pet needs a name. So suggest some names! Be aware, though, that this should be a serious and fitting name (no Urist McNautilus'es for example). If you fail to produce such a name, I will name it myself.

Second of all, a less important choice is to decide whether or not Naija should wear the Krotite Battle Armor we found. As mentioned, it doesn't actually provide any advantages, but it looks cool.

I say Naija should wear the battle armor. It's cool. As for our pet, I dunno.

As I'm reading from my phone, I can't see the pictures anyway, so I don't care about the armor.

And yes, your writing is good enough I can enjoy it without the pictures. Keep it up.

i have no idea about a name for the little scamp but i vote against the armor. naija has a really nice art direction and it would be a shame to put dog fish armor on her. maybe the next one?

Let's Play Aquaria, Chapter 2 - The God of Hunger

The rush of new waves greeted my ears, as I glided into undiscovered waters. Though a chapter of my life had ended, my journey was far from over.





The currents of the Open Waters reached far in every direction. Exploring it all would take a long time, perhaps even more than the time I had. Nevertheless, I could not give up now. I would find the secret I was looking for, even if it would consume my entire lifetime in the process.





I cooked up some traveling rations, as this journey would turn out to be far grander than I had ever expected.



Swimming down, I was faced with a fierce current, which I lacked the strength to pass.



I tried swimming around to the other side...



But the waves there grew too strong for me as well. Was there nothing I could do to pass these walls?



Luckily, as the currents emanated from that place, I could use it to my advantage to travel swiftly in the other direction.



I discovered a fallen statue of a race that resembled my own. Though it had collapsed from many years of decay, it still marked the way to those who had built it. Perhaps if I followed, I would find more of my kind.





These crabs throw rocks at anyone who passes them, more for sport than for defense.




These banners indicated the presence of civilization. With each breath, I drew nearer and nearer my own kind. Or so I thought.






These plants wouldn't be of much use until later.








I discovered inscriptions in the wall next to me, most probably remnants from whatever I was seeking.





In this song plant I expected to find something useful...



...but it was only a stash for some traveler's failed cooking attempts.

((The Sea Loaf is normally received whenever you cook things that are not a valid in-game recipe. Or they can be found whenever the game developers decide to be malicious and put them inside song plants, like this. Damn you!))
