Decorated Item value glitch
« on: March 06, 2010, 04:10:10 pm »

Just noticed that some items I was trading were decorated with green glass yet showing up as their original value on the trade screen (or just a wrong value), but the item description included the value of the glass decoration. Items in question were being traded to elves so there was no trade agreement in effect, no mods in use.

Examples:
-Exceptionally decorated with green glass Felisite Sceptre showing up as 11* but reading as 110* in description.
-Masterwork decoration w/ green glass granit mug. Trading for 490* but worth 250*

Items with glitched values did not correspond to a stone type, decoration quality or item type that I could discern. All were decorated with green glass.

Weren't these decorations "menaces with spikes of" by any chance?

Elves have a tag that makes them ignore this single type of decoration.
Here is the exact tag:
[ITEM_IMPROVEMENT_MODIFIER:SPIKES:0]

Are you sure that makes them ignore them? I thought it just made them create them less often (in this case, never).

No, it actually does make them ignore the value - I've done several experiments and have found that while Elven merchants treat items decorated only with menacing spikes as if they were undecorated, human and dwarven merchants list them at a higher value.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Huh, I think you're right. The wiki mentions that the tag affects how much merchants value the decorations.

I guess this means your fellow dwarves make good buyers for your spike-decorated things.
