TSALT: LLIII Edition
« on: March 06, 2010, 04:33:49 am »

This is a game called Treasure Sounds Alot Like Treachery. The players enter a Forbidden Ruin to loot it. The players receive an individual score, based on treasure deposited, and treasure cannot be shared. So every piece of treasure someone else gets, is one less for you!

The map is split roughly in half. You'll probably encounter one person early on, then another two shortly thereafter, and then everyone meets in the middle where there is a bunch of loot and a few pieces just lying around.

Note that almost all the treasure is hidden behind some kind of defense. You need a Machete to cut down vines, a Crowbar or Axe to open up a chest, or a Shovel to dig up Dirt.

Looks fun. I'll take Σ, crowbar, shovel, and gun.

What's the point of the boomerang, by the way?

In, with a crowbar, shovel, and boomerang (I assume you have limited ammo for the gun...)

The point of the boomerang is that it returns. So for example:

.........
.@.§.Σ...
.........

@ throws the boomerang East. It travels to the first floor (Range 1), to § (2), to the next floor (3), then to Σ (Range 4, maximum), and then it returns through the squares it traveled.

So you roll the 30% to hit against §, Σ, § in that order. The first one it hits is the lucky recipient of the attack.

That is, it cannot hit more than one person in one throw.

You always get your boomerang back, whether it hits or misses, unlike real life :P

Also, Killer, if you don't choose a symbol I'll just pick one for ya.

And silhouette, the wrench is the tool for setting traps, but you need a trap to set also. The wrench can be used to make traps using Scrap Metal, which you'll find in the Forbidden Ruin. Just wanted to make sure you knew.

I want to wait until we have 8 players, but if we don't have 8 by Monday morning (some people don't check the forums on the weekend) we'll start then. Consider the initial "safe period" to be 60 hours from my original post, which is just after lunchtime Monday for me.

After that it'll be the 24-hour "safe period" after each update.

I might skip weekends entirely, we'll see how it goes next weekend. I really don't want to skip people, and five updates a week is a decent pace.

On the map, the stupid-looking (and not very brown) rectangles are areas of dirt and rocks where the Forbidden Ruins have collapsed a little.

There might be treasure underneath, but the only way to get it is to dig using a shovel.

A shovel is also a standard weapon, of course.

The crowbar and axe are identical, but before I had more complicated Ruin features like locked and/or trapped doors. Originally the Axe could chop down locked doors and chests, while the crosbar could pry open only chests. But the Axe, in exchange for greater utility, had a small chance to destroy what was in a chest. If you lose the locked doors, there's no reason to give the axe that penalty. Hence their current identical rules.

Basically you can choose between Gimli or Gordon Freeman and there's no rules difference.

That deserves a sig, but in the meantime I will also take a shovel.

Can I start unarmed? For that +1 movement?

I'm not sure it suits me, but I agree about the sigging.

And I believe you can swap out OR put away your equipped weapon as a free action at the start of your turn, meaning you can specify you want to be unarmed (and therefore faster) any time you don't specifically need a weapon in hand.

Yes. The downside is that you choose at the start of your turn, which means if you attack you do so unarmed. And if someone attacks you, you don't get to counter. But running around with nothing in your hands is faster.

unless we PM turns I doubt that there is a down side, just take out a weapon when you are close to another.

I guess I'll play, then.

Φ, shovel, axe, machete.

Is @ even a valid player symbol?
