((Now for the story you can make a few suggestions in a raw, the pace may be a bit faster for a while because it doesn't look like anything special happens right now, unless I roll 1 three times out of three dices :) ))

Take the knife, go and get your backpack!
Empty the backpack before  you pick it up.

Grab the knife. Then focus on the drawind from the crumpled paper. Does it make us think of anything? Does it remind us of something?

You take a knife, looking at an electronic clock on the wall. It shows "21:44". then you return to lobby and pick up your backpack. You remember the strange paper and retrieve it from a cabinet. You try hard but cannot remember why did you draw it. It reminds you of some book or some game, but you don't remember anything further.

On your way outside you look in the fridge, but there's almost nothing edible. You forgot to go to a shop to buy something... You grab a can of pepsi and a bag of chips "Lays", and put them in your backpack.

You take your keys and head outside, locking the front door. You don't see a cat anywhere, so probably it ran out. But maybe it's hiding somewhere in your flat. You descend the stairs to the first floor and walk in the street. Your flat is on the second floor.

You strain your memory and remember the surroundings. A flower stall is not far away. Anna lives across the road.

Two lamplights illuminate a footway.

You notice a man in jeans and t-shirt looking at you from a shadow of a tree, then he steps around the corner and you don't see him anymore.

Think about that man. Does he bring up any thoughts or memories? Then, chase after him. Let's find out who this guy is.

Meanwhile, if you're interested in other surroundings, it's an upside-down Saint-Petersburg.

Here's the place on Google Maps

If you rotate it to swap north and south (and a bit more to make houses vertical), you should get the picture.

P.S. Sorry, I forgot the "fridge" part. I've edited the post and the picture to reflect the items you've got there.

Some metagamey stuff and rules:

I won't show you overall health rating or something because I use different things to determine it.
Bodypart damage leads to expected results, with +1 to difficulty check with each point of damage in any action the bodypart is involved in.
You don't magically "heal", but Power allows you to negate "pain", thus every point of Power decreases the penalty from a damage. I.e. 1 Power means that 1 damage to a hand won't make you to use it worse. Also it helps you to pass strength checks.
Agility is just a bonus to difficulty checks whenever you attempt a to-hit action, evade action or some another action which requires your dexterity/speed.

Mental points are special, their amount and restoration time depends on Will, and effectiveness of their drain depends on it and insight (based on situation). Also Insight helps you to determine the origin of things and solve puzzles.

Power = toughness, strength
Agility = dexterity, speed
Will    =  willpower, persistence
Insight = intelligence, logic, sixth sense
About alcohol and drugs:
- Small amount of alcohol ("little drunk") gives you +1 penalty to all dexterty checks,but give you +1 bonus to mental checks.
- Medium amount of alcohol ("drunk") gives you +2 penalty to all dexterity checks, give +1 bonus to toughness checks and +1 bonus to mental checks
- Big amount of alcohol ("very drunk") gives you +4 penalty to all dexterity checks, give +2 bonus to toughness checks and +2 bonus to mental checks

Drugs work different. If they make your senses sharper, they add a specific amount to your dexterity checks, but reduce the same amount from your mental checks.

I won't say much more yet because I don't want to spoil the story, but I want you to slowly get accustomized to rules. And the system is pretty simple, I don't want to make it more important than the story, however I feel that there should be some rules shown to you so you wouldn't have a feeling that you can't control anything.

Was that drawing on that piece of crumpled paper an Elder Sign?

::)

I have no experience in ASCII drawing, so it's not good. But at least it's recognizable.

P.S. Also it looks like I've messed up my first post due to multiple opened windows, but I've fixed it back.

Do a Google search for 'Elder Sign'

I didn't recognize it until you mentioned we read an H.P. Lovecraft book. I never read any of his books myself, but I did play a boardgame called Arkham Horror that was based off them. In that game Elder Signs stopped creatures from coming through portals, but I'm not sure what they did in the books.

Lovecraft mentioned it as a protective sign, like a pentagram in occultism. I also played Arkham Horror with expansions a lot, it's a cool game.
