I don't think that will happen for a very long time. I suspect DF will be alpha until Toady is very close to v1.0. And at his current rate of progress, I suspect that is still years away.

Not that I have any problem with the rate of progress. There so much on the table for 1.0, even a "relatively" small gain can be HUGE in "absolute" terms. Which is exactly what will happen with the next version.

In fact, I'm curious: has Toady announced what the next version number will be?
