Prepare to d- wait, what?
« on: March 03, 2010, 07:04:31 pm »

Has anyone else seen hostile NPCs whose placement seemed a bit... odd?

For example, my dwarf adventurer was travelling through out the Elven lands to teach them the mysteries of dwarven surgery and fire-making, when one of the elves introduced him/herself thusly:

This of course was followed by the traditional ritual of Dwarf-Elven diplomacy.

Following this, I met a similar elf:

And another:

I never knew elves were capable of such things.

I'm guessing Elves can be do plenty of fighting thanks to the fact that they will go to war over trees.

What's the problem with the placement?  I'm not sure what the problem here is ...

Either you are in a forest retreat, which is where they live, or you are out in some forest area where they send guards out on patrol.  One or the other is the case.

I think I used the wrong choice of words there. What I meant was, doesn't it seem odd that elves, taken in general to be complete pansies, take delight in what appears to be orgasmic murder and child death-slavery?

And yet some people still don't grasp why it's better to kill the elves instead of peddle your soul away for Sunberries.

Pfft.

I agree; it's easier to offer them gold and riches for sunberries and kill them when they bring them whenever they drag their pointy-eared visages onto your map.

DF Players never truly leave.  They just abandon the fortress for a few years and then reclaim.

They will go to war over TREES. Besides, everyone who has killed another sapient being talks like that. They begin to take joy in slaughter.

Elves also eat their dead enemies, including dwarves, humans, other elves (See:  The wife of The Immortal Onslaught) goblins, and freaking DEMONS.

I think they also have torture enabled in their entity file.

Their O.K. for torture as example, and see using it to get info as just "misguided". Dwarves find torture period to be unacceptable.

Then how come, as an elf, in adventure mode, one cannot cause the elf to eat their fallen victims?

Same reason you can't get your dwarf or your human to eat groundhogs?

but those require butchering. If I recall correctly, the elves just flat out eat the dead.

Actually, there was an occasion in adventure mode where I was playing an elf (Please don't hurt me) and attacked a creature while unarmed. Instead of wrestling or punching or kicking, I bit the creature and tore its head off. (I think it was the head, I know I tore something off.)
