Oh gog. I was like, XKCD people don't have faces! And then I thought about it for a good 5 seconds and understood. I also felt great dread at the sight of it :s

I am very psyched for this, the only problem is I suffer from a marked lack of HBO, however I know someone else that is looking forward for it, so I'll probably see if he has copies or something.

Hey dudes, there's a 15 minute preview of this out there now. On HBO's site, and possibly elsewhere.

So I just finished watching episode one. I LIKED IT. A LOT.

By the way, this is now the official topic for it. Just as soon as I change the title.

For those of you who have finished watching the episode:

Yeah, I watched the first episode. I've never read the book, however.

I'm not sure what to think of it.
There was a lot of sex.
And nudity.
And there was unwanted incestuous touching.
And the swordfighting was laughable.

I don't know whether I like it or not, but I might watch the second episode to give it another chance to reel me in.

Wait until Jaime and Cersei reunite later.

I need to figure out a way to watch this. 0_0

I guess I'll probably just have to wait until it comes out on netflix though, damn it. Unless someone knows if they are streaming it somewhere online.

Hmm, from what I recall that sounds pretty loyal to the source material. I'll have to give it a try.

Heh. Yeah, very loyal.

Of course I missed it. Ah well. Anyways, hopefully GRRM puts out the next book by the time they run out of source material for the show.

I love the way there was loads of unnecessary nudity (the whorehouse etc) and there was no nudity in a place there was meant to be (in the bedroom with the Starks, she's meant to be in the nud and make a joke to the Maester).

Did Daenerys actually get raped by the Khal? That never happened in the books. My girlfriend was flipping out on me about this. "THIS NEVER HAPPENED, I LOVE KHAL DROGO HE'S WONDERFUL HE NEVER RAPED HER."

EDIT: God, I love Tyrion. The casting choices are a bit shameful, though. Why not contacts and bleaching hair?

Uh, yeah, I pretty distinctly remember that happening in the book.

He didn't. She was not really willing to consummate her marriage, but she did it anyway. In the book this is the moment she warms up to him, in the series they seemed to skip this moment. Probably it's because they didn't want to ruin Drogo's image as a brutal savage in the very first episode.

So there's definitely going to be a second season.

There are definite differences between the details of the books, and the details of the TV show, however all the major plot threads are still there so far. They're going to be playing up Jaime compared to the books simply because it's more fitting with a television portrayal.
