The flintlock was invented in the early 1600s. The glow stick was invented around the 1970s.
By comparison, taking inventions from the same time periods, that's the difference between the introduction of the first King James Bible and the Apollo 14 mission (third moon landing).

If you guys have a better name for it, feel free to do so.

I wanted to have some sort of chemical torch that he could have, but didn't know of any appropriate name for it period wise. Also, if more people object to it, I'll change the details and try to make it less modernistic.

As far as the wood resin goes, don't think of cellulose based plastic, think of amber.

Edit: Actually, I have an idea to make it seem more magical. I think I'll just say amber rather than wood resin since saying wood resin could make it sound more synthetic.

I changed it to an extract of mushrooms that glow in the dark and activated by a copper rod that is coated with an alchemical compound. I got that idea after remembering that amber has static electrical properties.

I think saying that its made out of amber sounds better than saying wood resin anyway.

Aren't there some bioluminescent bacteria or molds or something? You could have those.

yeah but then you'd have to like feed them

though that does fit better with the alchemist's theme of bio-magic.

We can assume that they feast on the flesh of his enemies. We cut down around 20 dudes a day or something anyway.

Well, could there be bioluminescent autotrophic bacteria?
Or we could say that it sucks out his soul, converts it to helium... And magically charges it?
I'm not thinking straight.

maybe he could just have a jar of fireflies.
or, you know, a torch.

POSSIBLE SESSION TODAY
If 4 people are online I'm willing to continue the game.

Yea, I had kind of forgotten about the 'bio-mancer' thing, mainly because I haven't had the opportunity to do anything bio-mancery yet.

I already made it be coated in an extract from bioluminescent fungi, which probably fits better into the whole nature thing with elves. Its also possible that he was getting them from the Dwarves as they would definetly have access to exotic fungi.

Not sure if I'll keep the copper rod to enable it to be turned on or off, or use some other method.

maybe he could just have a jar of fireflies.

Do you mean a torch as in what Americans call a flashlight? That would be too modern.

Anyways, I'm on to play the game.

over here in CANADA a flashlight is a flashlight, and a torch is a BURNING PIECE OF WOOD

a lantern would work just fine too

Wasn't sure whether you used the british term or not.

Anyways, I did also think of changing it to a ball or some other shape on the end of a stick last night, but didn't go with it.

gee this artificial light discussion sure is important to our quest
I don't really even care if the party can see in the dark or not
goblins and dwarves probably have cave-vision anyway
