Is the ocean infinitely deep?  If not, collapse part of the glacier to the bottom, find a way to get down there, and then found the first underwater dwarven city, at the bottom of an ocean, made of ice.

The ocean is not bottomless though apparently neither is the magma pipe cause I just genned the world and made a 3x9 embark and revealed it and the pipe ends before you get to the bottom level of the map.

found a good spot with magma pipe that allows a 3x3 embark area over ocean fully except magma pipe, the magma pipe area is sinister.

Except I'm having difficulties with desalination right now. Whenever I pump the water out of the ocean and into my walled-in enclosure, it instantly freezes, even though its inside

Which means I can't have a military.

Edit: Ah, I just had to channel the ocean water into the other biome. Water desalinated!
