(Quick Note: I am using X-Comutil with this LP. main things are random UFO layout, and enhanced starting base. also, apologies for the size of the pics.)

Diary of Argatson, Commanding Officer, UN forces, X-Com division

Well, the Council finally re-activated us. bout frickin time too. I was flown into the base today, and was quite surprised by the layout of the facilities

They actually listened to our suggestions! The base we had during the first war was an absolute Hell to defend with all the entry points. this new design forces them to come from one direction. that only leaves of one route of escape, of course, but it's worth the risk. they also pre-installed a containment area and gave us a full compliment of scientists and labs.

The scientists weren't very sociable, save for the head researcher, MR. Alhazred. we discussed what we might need during the coming months, and after looking over mission reports from the first war, we decided to research medi-kits that could work under water.

saying farewell to them I decided to review the troops stationed here
First up, Jim "Bubbles" Eyre

He swears that he was a former US Navy SEAL, but his psych evaluation makes me worry about him cracking under the preassure. It would be a shame if he did, considering he's one of the best shots we've got.

Next up, Steve

Now this is a proper soldier. He requested a pistol, stun rod, and "The largest amount of HE available in the stockpiles". I have placed an order for the proper equipment and hope he's as good as he says he is.

Jax

I'd say that he's our best shot. He requested a rifle, some explosives, and a motion detector. I infoormed him that the motion detector doesn't work underwater, but I would get him a suitable equivalent ASAP.

Robert

Then ther was this guy. Met up with him in the mess, and i swear he was using at least three chairs. he requested a heavy weapon and a sidearm.

RAM I

Command thought we needed some fleshing out.  So, taking a perfectly logical leap, they hired some PMCs from the Redshirt Corporation. They were also kind enough to give us a cloning bank in case he dies, but that doesn't seem likley.

Anya

She was my commanding officer during the war, and led the final attack on Cydonia. Unfortunatley, she used one of the older model Psi-Amps that required elerium to function and she got addicted to it. It's been years since she got it removed, but she is still going through withdrawal symptoms. I hope that she doesn't have a breakdown in the middle of combat, but it's hard to tell with Psionics.

Also caught up with Myroc again. He's getting a bit old for combat, but when news leaked that X-com was being re-activated well... It's hard not to enlist someone who brought along some old "trophies". I ordered a remote weapons platform for him.

Anyways, been sorting through a mountain of paperwork and looking over what little entertainment we've got. I had to confiscate galaxy knows how much contraband. One of the troops also had the brilliant idea to hook up a DVD Player to one of the screens in the lab. Movie nights are on fridays, with the first video being "Hunt for the Red October". I also made a mental note to look through some the old-looking books that Mr. Alhazred has lying around.

I am 'Ace'. the crack sub pilot.  I like lots of horsepower, going slow, and lazy barrel rolls over the seabed.  I constantly listen to an eclectic mix of Jimmy Buffet, 90's rock, and classical type music.  Not that I would know, I'm deaf as a headless corpse and in possession of just as much sanity.  That is to say, very little.
Just to clarify, I pilot ALL the subs, even when there are multiple in the ocean. I'm just skilled that way.

Also, I lost my hearing in a tragic sub accident, where my cabin pressurized suddenly and damaged my hearing.

Journal of J."B". Eyre: (01-01-40)

Well, this is just great. I had some "Welcome Brownies", as well as some "relaxing reading/viewing material" confiscated off of me before entering the base, and immediately got briefed on my conduct before getting through the door. I hope I'm not kicked out on my first night because of it. Happy *fuzzy* New Year.

I'm rather twitchy on the whole thing. Haven't been this nervous since that night-op when I had to be called out for recon just after doing a dare of downing a shot of Mentos while guzzling a whole 2-liter of Coke. Let's not forget, an old classmate and his wife I knew since high school died while on board the sunken 'Hyperion' cruise ship. Learning these alien *babies* did this doesn't settle too well with me. I just hope I'm not unfortunate enough to get my *rump* blasted apart by these *fuzzy* *dogs*.

-EDIT-
(01-01-40)

PS- Okay, what the hell is up with this? Is my journal censoring my typing? I'm going to see if anyone knows how to bypass this fu(king PC (rap. I want to be able to curse properly, because with the crazy sh!t that's going to go down, I don't want my messages to be hard to understand. Someone is overboard with being a little politically correct around here. This is like sitcom levels.

Bah, knew I'd be the first one dead.

Once you get around to replacing him.
Name:Rem (Female)
Equipment:Gause Rifle, Particle Disturbance Sensor and stun equipment (Replaced later by Thermal Shok Launcher)
Psych Evaluation: Trained xenobiologist and combat technian. Rem joined X-com as a chance to study and observe the "Alien Menace" outisde of corpses and half dead prisoners. Capable with a gun and quick to react. Kind but relativaly aloof, keeps to self as she value quiet over social interaction. Can handle interacting with others if the need arises. Can be stubborn and lacks motivation beyond scholary pursuits.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

Name: Marcus
Occupation: Scientist, Marine Biologist
X-Com nickname: "That Bloody Dolphin Freak"
Bio:
Marcus was always fascinated with the ocean, even from a very young age. During the First Alien War, he and his family spent a year living on a cruise boat converted to refugee carrier, off the coast of California. During this time, he became fascinated by dolphins. He marvelled at their intelligence, and their bravery.

On several occasions he witnessed them using their sonar to confuse the navigators of Alien craft, so that they missed spotting the refugees.

Marcus beleives that dolphins are far more intelligent than humans give them credit for. In fact, he thinks they may have fought them off before, given that he has read of similar occurences, with dolphins "attacking" alien ships with their sonar.

What he really wants to do, now that he's joined X-Com, is hook himself and a dolphin up to a psy-amplifier, and have a nice, long chat. And build the dolphin an amplifier for his sonar. That he can wear on his head. That lets him attack the aliens with sonar that is as powerful as "a freakin' laser beam".

:D

I figured out why X-COM 2 was not as good as the first. It didn't have attack dolphins.

It's just too bad that we can't have a dolphin death-squad with freakin' lasers on their heads for real. Oh well, they can always be used as plot material, as if you needed anymore. :)

Edit, responding to zchris: It's pretty obvious, in hindsight. I was going to make a SeaQuest reference here, but I'm pretty sure X-Com came first anyway.

Mini-Story Post
Jan 9th, 2040

Held the memorial service for Jax. Poor guy never even saw the alien that killed him. The autopsy revealed that he died from asphyxiation. If the shot had gone a little to  the right he would still be alive. Already requisitioned some recruits.

Stopped in to talk with Alhazred about the med-kits. It's seems that they haven't made much progress. He suggested that having some more researchers might speed things up, but we would need another lab. Requisitioned them both, along with a few more general stores.

Almost had to evacuate the base as well. There was an absolutely revolting smell wafting through the hallways. At first I thought that the alien containment lab had been breached. It was nothing of the sort.

"Bubbles" decided to try the meatloaf surprise. he has been banned from eating any food that could give him gas for the foreseeable future.

Jan 11th, 2040

The new recruits arrived today.

Rem

Seems like a pretty good shot, and the psch reports say that she doesn't crack under pressure. We'll see

Tasjack

Don't know much about this guy. Showed up at the recruiting desk a week ago and passed most of the necessary tests. Not a very talkative fellow though. I asked him why he joined up, but he just said he had "personal reasons". His bio said that his parents were on the Hyperion, so three guesses as to his reasons. I suppose I can relate, but I'll keep an eye on him. Or better yet, have Anya keep an eye on him. She already had to deal with one revenge crazed soldier before.

Still, something doesn't add up. His bio says he's from Innsmouth, but I can't find a town of that name on any maps.

Extra scientists arrived as well.  Alhazred seems to have taken one in particular under his wing. Guy by the name of Marcus. Some very weird designs for some kind of Psy-amp, or possibly helmet in his effects.

Alhazred gave him a play script to read. The King in Something. I'm a bit worried since that last guy to read that locked himself in his dorm for a week or so.

Also, feel free to post journal entries and create side-stories.
